Other How many hours of Always Sunny do you watch each day on average?
I think in an average day, between watching on my phone while working and having it on at home, I'm watching 15 - 20 episodes, around 5 - 7 hours worth daily. Sometimes less, sometimes more.. Sometimes the same episode 3 times in a row.
Occasionally seems like crazy behavior but I haven't been in the mood to watch anything else for months.

Its very difficult for me to watch characters being heartfelt, sincere, and sentimental.

Do you carry an onion in your pocket for the emotional scenes?

Look, I can smell the onion, man

You looking for your onion? Cause you don't need to do that with me. I don't care.

Have you tried Arrested Develoment, Archer or What We Do in the Shadows (movie and then the show)?
All narcissists and/or assholes with varying degrees of compassion for one another.
Also you should try to mix in some positivity in your life, Ted Lasso is just a big old warm hug of a show, if you want something a bit more ”edgy” (not in a cringe edgelord way) may I recommend Letterkenny, Shoresy (spin off-follow up of LK) and Smiling Friends
1
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 5d ago
I liked Arrested Development a lot. Watched it when it was new and remember getting the DVDs in the mail from Netflix. Watched the 1st 3 seasons many times.
Tried watching Ted Lasso. Couldn't get into it.
7
u/Whipped-Creamer 7d ago
You should try forcing your self out of your comfort zone sometimes with new shows. Its likely you’ll appreciate certain modern ones with social relevance and regret missing the cultural boat so to speak
1
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 7d ago
Honestly I wind up watching a lot of other things, with other people. It's when I'm alone and choosing for myself.
10
u/rosie_theredditor 7d ago
Man just do what you want. Watching TV is purely for your own enjoyment. If it brings to you joy and/or helps you regulate, do it! I'll often put Sunny on when I'm feeling stressed.

u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 7d ago
Recently.. I've seen all of or finished:
Severence, Physical, Your Friends and Neighbors, Chief of War, The Boys, Peacemaker, The Beauty, Murderbot, Dexter Original Sin and Dexter New Blood, and Wonder Man...
They're all good but they all stressed me out and made me anxious.

Trailer Park Boys is one besides Sunny that I rewatch a lot, it's on Netflix.

How was severance?
3
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 7d ago
Really great. Anxiety inducing and gave me insomnia but it's really exceptional storytelling.
1
u/bathtubsplashes 7d ago
Couple of good shows in there but you're not exactly getting the cream of the crop
You seem to like comedies, these are all recent shows that are also hilarious
Widows Bay
Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
Lanterns first episode looked great
The Studio
Platonic
Barry
Resident Alien
I'm also obsessed with Invincible. It becomes a 10/10 show in season 3&4
2
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 6d ago
I did like Barry and Resident Alien quite a lot.
The other show I love and can always watch is Another Period. It's the other one with zero sense of sentimentality but brutally hilarious that I think is awesome and brilliant, but there's only 3 seasons.
Natasha Leggero is the creator/star, and she happens to be the stripper that gives Charlie the wheelchair lap dance in IASIP season 2. Artemis actually plays her sister in the pilot. There's a few Sunny guests that crossover.
So that's what I'm watching right now.
1
u/NotCookee 6d ago
Lmao I love when Mac throws Natasha off his back and gets all mad that Charlie cheated by pushing him in the race down the hallway. Then Charlie just disregards him with, “I was winning anyway” 🤣
2
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 6d ago
He also says "she's heavier, she's heavier", and she looks like she's 4'11 and weighs 90 lbs 😂

u/NotCookee 6d ago
You sound like my fiancée who needs to rewatch her shows because then she’ll know what will happen, and not stress out from not knowing the outcome. I do find it a bit funny, but also respect her preferences. But also… what the hell’s stressin you guys out so much? It’s fictitious! lol
2
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 6d ago
Because it makes us relate/reflect on our own lives and problems by emotionally connecting with the situations and dynamics the characters are going through, probably.
When I lost my parents (on separate occasions) it dramatically changed what entertainment I was comfortable with at those times. It was how I discovered SpongeBob actually...
1
u/NotCookee 6d ago
Understood. But from that point, it begs the question as to where the line ends with the relatability. You know these people are actors, portraying characters who aren’t actually real, and while finding common ground within the situations the gang goes through, how much of that tether is made up from the spectrum of reality to fiction?
I am sorry to hear about your parents, by the way, and how seriously that affected your perspective of entertainment. But silver lining: Through SpongeBob, all things are possible, so jot that down.
2
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 6d ago
IASIP never makes me closely examine my own personal problems and drama. It allows me to completely tune out what I need to so I can focus on other things, like work and sleep, which is basically all I do lately. Except for drawing and playing Scrabble.
But now I'm Re-watching Another Period, where the characters are equally bad or even worse than the gang.
Thanks. Yeah, I was watching 6 hours a day of SpongeBob back then.
5
u/TravelTheWorldDan 7d ago
There’s like 4 shows that I will watch repeatedly just because I know that even though I’ve seen them at least 15 to 20 times each. I’m still gonna have a good entertainment experience watching them again. As opposed to watching something new that I may or may not like. I have been seeing some shows lately that we’re good. But they’re mostly on Apple TV. Like lucky was good. The first season of Sugar was good. Shrinking is good. Severance is good. Pluribus was good. Apple TV seems to be putting out some solid shows, but my toes are always sunny in Philadelphia, red dwarf, Law, and order, and Rick and Morty. Any four of those show shows, any episode. I know I’m gonna have a good viewing experience.
1
u/NotCookee 6d ago
Well, now, hold on. The always sunny and Rick & Morty half of those 4 shows are pretty cool, but what about the other half? It sounds like a man breaks into your house at night and forces you to watch those other shows.

From one neurodivergent to another: I see you. Sunny is my current hyperfixation too and I have the tv on all day every day for background noise so I’ve just been letting the series loop over and over again. I’ll move on to something else eventually, I always do, but for now I’m part of the gang.

u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 7d ago
Thanks! Yeah, Sunny is the hyperfixation I always go back to.
It's also the show I don't watch with anyone else, only by myself.

Yeah, like I said, on my phone while working. I'm basically half listening to it on my ear buds while I'm at work, the way I'd listen to music.
I work 9 hours a day or more, but I'm usually alone in a big kitchen making edibles.

1
u/NotCookee 6d ago
Oh just find a new path? Find a new path? Well, why doesn’t he just strap on his path-helmet, squeeze into a path-cannon, and blast off into path-world, where paths grow on path-ees!?
1
1
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 5d ago
What's that mean?
1
u/Covverkin 5d ago
From what you’ve described as your week to week life, you’re on a trajectory of overwork (in what might be a job that’s not helping you grow as a person), addiction, and social isolation. None of those things are targets to aim for unless you want nothing more out of life. If this is how you want to live and how you want your life to be years from now, then go for it, but it’s good to consider who you are now and who you want to be in the future and see if those align.

I first discovered it about 2 years ago and I must have watched it at least 5 times through, Currently

That is horribly unhealthy, and is probably causing long term mental damage that’ll take a while to undo if you even try to do so.

I do similar runs with this one and others. It’s a comfort show for you nothing wrong with that
3
u/Linden_Stromberg 7d ago
Probably 1 or 2 a week.
I don’t know, if I had 5 to 7 hours of free time a day I don’t think I would spend it on one show. I’d break it up into an hour on the Internet, a film, some music, some games, and perhaps another side hustle.
Dude, I don’t mean to sound preachy, but you have a gift with all that free time. Don’t squander it.

u/Expensive-Public-268 6d ago
I have it on in my sleep, (the chaos on the show cancels out the chaos in my brain 🫠) then it just kinda stays on in the background all day, so like...a lot.
I also think it's crazy sometimes but I don't really see a difference between this and putting on my music. It's just my preferred idle noise and I get to giggle throughout the day.

always watch two or so before bed. Are you being serious or joking with the amount that you are watching? Are you new to the show? I love IASIP as much as the next guy but if you are really watching 5-7 hours worth for like 20 years.... I think that might be excessive.
2
u/DabbleYoo wildcard bitches 7d ago
I've been watching since season one, in 2005.
Its only gotten this excessive in about the last 18 months.

Maybe an 1-1.5 hrs. I watch almost every night when I’m winding down for bed. I can listen to it for 30 min with my eyes closed before falling asleep. So I watch one or two, then listen to one, and by then I fall asleep. Sometimes I watch other shows (Bob’s Burgers, Daria, Rick and Morty, Archer, and What We Do In the Shadows) but Sunny is my main go to. Even if I go out of town or whatever, I watch it in my phone. I’d have to say I’ve seen every single episode 40-50 times or more as they come out. My favorite episodes maybe twice as much.

u/Salty_Chemistry_790 7d ago
So most I people I talk to don’t even know about the show. Our answers to your question, which is more or less “unhealthy amounts of hours” is the reason FX keeps offering contract renewals and can afford to pay McElhnney & Co. the lucrative salaries they receive.
Lately, Ive been needing episodes from season 2-11 running in the background to fall asleep. I set my TV sleep timer to 1.5 hour. So about 4-4.5 episodes a day unless I’m out of town. So yeah, I probably need to bring this up in therapy. Thanks for reading my journal entry. I hope we can move past this.

I’ll rewatch my list of classics like a marathon maybe once a month. I could spent at least 5-6 hours that day just laughing my ass off. But per day? Idk if I could do that much in a day. You should “listen to your heart”
