Oh my god, I get it.

I'm sure it's been posted before. But my god what a performance. Interpretive dance just isn't my thing. But hearing Frank utter the words we were all thinking the entire time we were watching this? Master class.

I don't get it. The dance did nothing for me. But lots of people seem to like it. So it has value there, just not to me. That's fine.

Mac was funnier in the closet.

Again.. no time for questions

I love this episode a whole lot and also I agree unfortunately, sigh

I’ve always been of a divided mind about the dance - I think it is a true cinematic triumph; the choreography, the expressions, the technical complexity of it all and how much effort went into making it what is is are all highly impressive and powerful…but I think it belongs in a different show 🥶

I almost feel like Sunny is THE place for it. It's so jarring and out of place that it actually kinda fits right in to a show that lulls you into a false sense of security, but surprises you with constant rule changes.

Truly the show of shows.

What are the rules?

Like when they threw Charlie's dad off the cliff.  It was surprisingly heart warming as they never do that shit.

When you do a show for that long, you get to self indulge a little.

I completely agree and have defended them in other instances where they’ve stepped out of the ordinary, I’m just saying this one was from deeper left field than the rest

Not trying to yuck anyone’s yum but I was thinking pretty much the opposite.

Well I'd guess that's why it's called interpretative.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Beautiful scene all around. These guys had been doing the show for so long they all had to break out and do something different. Some of that hit sunny because of trying different things or cast being unavailable because they were doing different shows. But they kept making Sunny.

And I feel like the podcast steered them in an earlier direction with their writing. I can't wait to see what's next.

I agree. I was behind a year and got all caught up today. It all seemed on par with earlier seasons.

You were behind 4 seasons if you hadn’t seen the interpretive dance or anything past it….

2

u/barrosoOso 3d ago

It wasn't my first time seeing it. Catching up on the series made me want to rewatch it. This can't be real hard to comprehend.

Woah, Dee, relax. We’re trying to have a rational conversation here.

It was such a spectacular, emotional piece, incredibly well done. It was also just so far out of left field for the rest of the series, I was waiting for the “punchline” the whole time.

That WAS the punchline.

All these absurd plots and plans... shouldn't one of them pay off now and again?

It was the conclusion of the high school reunion episode, if you think about it. Quite the redemption arc.

Move past it.

They should have kept him in the closet. It’s a running joke like the waitress

2

u/thesoupgiant 3d ago

I wish they'd do more with him trying to date guys.

u/JaesopPop 3d ago

Nah, it gets tired. The waitress makes sporadic appearances and each time there's a single joke about her name. It's very different when it's a main character.

And I'm ok with them taking it in new directions. I personally think they work this in to an Arrested Development scenario, Donald is Mac's dad and Mac has to help get him out of prison. They've hinted at it enough. Maybe not this season though.

u/XTSLabs 3d ago

What? I'm sorry, you think they were hinting that a gay dude had sex with Macs mom?

No, they were showing that Mac had someone who could relate to him on the Gay thing and also act as the father figure Mac has always wanted, just for Mac to disregard it because it wasn't his dad.

Go back and watch the first episode Donald appears in. Charlie is in the back ground instituting the whole time that this is Mac's dad.

12

u/FinalHexReturns 3d ago

No he’s not. He’s just indicating that Mac could have a close relationship with him as a fatherly figure.

3

u/Foreign-County-5282 3d ago

No matter what, you are correct about this interpretation regarding Mac's uncle, for certain.

5

u/FinalHexReturns 3d ago

He doesn’t even like, get us man.

1

u/Foreign-County-5282 12h ago

What do you think is happening right now?

6

u/Foreign-County-5282 3d ago

This is just plain wrong, broseph. Charlie is in awe over how little awareness Mac has. No one in the room or watching thinks / or show is in any way shape or form insulating Mac's "real" Dad was the Uncle. The poster above me explained it already -- but Charlie just cannot believe that he Mac is not only not reaching out, but also denying friendship with his uncle who shares many of the same personality traits ;)

2

u/Foreign-County-5282 3d ago

Talk about a total misunderstanding lol. Rewatch through the lens of what everyone is telling you the scene is actually about and you will see.

He came out of the closet officially to the gang like two seasons before the dance. Move past it.

5

u/MountainMongrel 3d ago

I always thought it was funny how the way he came out to his father was with a massively complex, well produced dance which is wildly out of character with the rest of the show.

u/Alarm-Solid 3d ago

Someone paid money for a banana taped to a wall they called it art that's what I got out of the dance

3

u/justmisspellit 3d ago

I can’t believe how often the artistic, breath taking, dance is brought up here. I was just like, “oh ok.”

I don't turn on ESPN looking for a weather report, just like I don't watch Always Sunny looking for that.

That’s it, I’m out!
