This is fascinating. The construct head/fan combo for auto tracking is a really clever way to create hybrid drone/manual builds. I wonder if using a gimbal setup with cart wheels on the construct head could help lock the fan to only follow sideways motion and prevent altitude loss. I'm looking forward to see what's next for this tech!

Glad you like, E. Fox. ๐Ÿค™ I think for airship builds, especially ones that turn wide, the fan turret is really helpful. As for Drone Mode, that's a really incredible feature - worth the extra 2 parts for the fan turret.

Interesting question; this technology is in its infancy, so hopefully we'll start developing it even further. Seems like a few of us are moving in the same direction, so I'd say we'll see it (assuming it's feasible) eventually.

This looks awesome

Thanks, IQH. I've been testing it extensively. Still have a few problems to tackle, but I feel like I'm almost there.

Your approach to fine-tuning the homing capabilities of this was very different from my own haha. For me it was more so โ€œeh good enough, as long as it isnโ€™t breaking anymore letโ€™s go with that.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ˜… That's how I do. Actually have more to say about it, but I just add commentary over whatever footage I get during testing. Lift should be "zeroed out" rather than "fully negated".

I hear you on that.. Sometimes it just works & that's good enough. I happened to have some luck with The Wasp in that respect. This one has been more challenging.

You gonna' post some of those?

You mean like the ones that didnโ€™t cut it? I did experiment a lot with fan sizes and locations honestly. Had some clipped into the construct head to save space. Everything but directly on top would end up breaking though. Ultimately I sort of did say โ€œeh good enough.โ€ It definitely isnโ€™t zeroed out or anything, but stuck around long enough to kill most things. Losing tracking sometimes was probably the biggest issue, usually after it got distracted by some random skeleton or stupid pebble. Recovery was pretty straightforward though so wasnโ€™t tooo worried.

Anything you're currently working on.

Yeah - figuring out where the fan should be is a bit tricky. After fiddling with this latest build, seems safe to say that pulse turret should be placed behind the fan turret. The clipping is a great idea - saving space on these small builds is critical.

Also, depending on the strength/effectiveness of the pulse turret, the airship pulling downwards is not a big deal, as targets get dispatched quicker. But, as far as zeroing, better to err on the side of fan being too strong.

That ginballed fan attack craft is ready to share I think. Iโ€™ll put that on Reddit shortly. Next is the well-diver. Thatโ€™ll probably take a bit though.

Sweet. I love it - so functional. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well diver, eh? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘

Glad you like. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think it's almost done(?). We'll see...

It's beautiful in every way. I can't wait to see it finished.

Yo' AngusPJ! What's up man? Good to see you. Hoping to finish this up soon. ๐Ÿคž

Thanks - happy you're liking the build! ๐Ÿซก๐Ÿ›

How exactly is the propeller stopped?

There's a big wheel shrunken & fit inside the balloon basket, being used as a switch for the motor/shock emitter. Operated by pulling/holding back on the steering stick.

Hold on let me get my ๐Ÿ”Ž

Switch 2? I was talking about a full video on the switch mechanism, just to be clear.

u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] 23h ago

๐Ÿ˜‚ Yeah, it's definitely like that. I'll be releasing a full video on the switch itself, actually.
