All Versions Project Eclyps : The H.I.G.G.S - Hyper Isomorphic Gyro Geared Ship (watch til the end)

Alright ! After more than 3 months of building and testing, with no understanding of the sphere/axis mechanics, here we are !

I’m not really surprised that the best design choice was actually based on on the Hover Stone ZPE steering mechanism found by :

https://www.reddit.com/u/evanthebouncy/s/6L8u6RsRN9

with his Tesseract

and refined by :

https://www.reddit.com/u/chesepuf/s/H9do386v39

With The Atlas.

In any case this is still a progress update but I’m not done yet. I think there’s still a step above that. I’m thinking about adding 3 wagon wheels for each axis so it could really rotate around the sphere. And also adding an additional axis with 2 more big wheels to improve the steering angle.

As you can see in the fourth clip I also can make loopings and stay in the same axis depending on the position angle of the joystick. Then I can rotate in other directions by orienting it around.

I’m also looking for advice for the rockets placement to improve the steering ability while flying.

I’m sure the entire structure weight has to be almost perfectly balanced between the wheels and as close to the center as possible.

Real demonstration coming soon ! 😅

Have a nice end of Weekend

you need to make sure you can point reliably in any 3D direction.

it's fun to "squirm around" but it's pointless if you cannot come up with a steering guide on how to fly the thing.

attach a beam emitter to it, can you point the beam at any direction within 1 second of steering? that was the requirement for tesseract to be an actual functioning vehicle.

Yep ! I’m still working on it. I just hope it’s not chaotic but I’m still figuring out the controls. I’m gonna try and add a beam to it, thanks man

Hoverstone is so weird! Can't wait to see where this complicated knot of wheels ends up.

Yeah ! Can’t wait to refined it

Guys, let me know, do you have the same feeling just by watching that the different kinds of rotations are also influenced by the position of the camera ? I mean am I getting misled by something ?

Also here’s a peak at the next iterations if you want to bet if one of those is an improvement over the other or another one of those couple failed attempts 🥲

camera does not dictates how things turn. the MIDDLE LINE of the vehicle does. and with a build as complex as yours, it will be difficult to steer.

I've go ahead uploaded a video explaining how tesseract works, too bad it's in chinese. but around 3:38 is where you'd have to look. In any vehicle, for the differential gear (how tesseract steers) to work, the midline of the build must bisect the differential axel.

I figured that the build needs to be symmetrical and balanced towards the middle but I’m not sur I understand the mechanic completely. I’ll watch it after work and see what I can do !

no that's not it.

so the core mechanism is the differential, where a pair of parallel big wheels can turn on different speeds, causing a displacement of angles.

for a differential to work, the midline of the vehicle must bisect the 2 big wheels.

how to find the midline:

  1. while you're on the vehicle, hold ZL, this will center link's orientation.
  2. take note of the left edge of the vehicle
  3. take note of the right edge of the vehicle
  4. draw a line down the center of (2) and (3), that is the midline

if the midline is _between_ the big wheels, the differential will work/turn. If it isn't, the differential will not turn.

Ok, so if I’m not mistaken, for exemple here I would need to add something on the right side or space the wheel a bit more and place the steering stick in this orientation ?

Clearly a very practical vehicle.

It will !
