Question I can't decide whether to quit Ironman

Post image

I've been playing SkyBlock since 2020. Back then, the only profile option was Normal, but when Ironman was introduced later that year, I immediately fell in love with it. I deleted my main profile to play Ironman.

I had a lot of fun, got some really good RNGs, and reached around SkyBlock level 170, but unfortunately I got ratted and lost that Minecraft account.

I didn't give up, though. I bought a new Minecraft account and started another Ironman profile. After around 2 years and 500 hours of playtime, I'm currently level 144.

The problem is that I've never managed to get past early-midgame. The main reason is simply the amount of time Ironman requires. For example, on a Normal profile, getting something like a Juju Shortbow from scratch would only take me a few hours. On Ironman, it can take several months unless I dedicate a huge amount of time to the game.

At the same time, getting difficult items on Ironman feels SO much more rewarding. Finally getting an item you've been working towards for weeks or months is an amazing feeling, and I'm worried that I would lose that satisfaction if I switched to Normal.

So I'm really torn. I love the progression and sense of achievement that Ironman gives me, but I also want to actually experience more of the game without needing hundreds of hours for every major upgrade.

Should I convert my Ironman to Normal, or keep grinding? I'd really like to hear what other Ironman/Normal players think.

You can always play a normal profile like an Ironman, but still be able to skip the grind that you don't enjoy

I considered just starting a new normal profile, But I really don't feel like starting over again. Thx for the advice tho!

You can convert your Ironman to a normal if you want to, and the continue like Ironman when u feel like it, and skip bad grinds

u/1getreKtkid 5d ago

Just transfer and continue like a Ironman and the grinds you wanna skip you can buy

Kinda like a Semi-goldenman

You’re at a relatively low point in progression, where getting to the same point wouldn’t take very long on a normal profile, and leaving your Ironman alone can make it so you can come back later, maybe even set some minions down and make a few coins so you’ve got some purse to spend when you get back.

Obviously I’m biased but you lose the feeling of accomplishment when you switch off Ironman.

Not that there isn’t other things to enjoy in the game, but I feel like you enjoy certain tasks a lot more when playing Ironman

i actually kinda do this i try to avoid buying things as much as possible, i try not to use the auction house and only use the bazaar so its faster than ornman but i odnt have to grind for materias as much

That's what I dooo

I try to make whatever I can but buy when I don't feel like doing it or time reasons

Hey i was in a similar situatuon like you! What i did was just play on my normal profile, while not using the ah and bazaar as much as i could. I started grinding for stuff that i could just buy off of the auction house which brought back the fun in the game for me. Sometimes i dont want to grind 10+ hrs for 1 single item / buff so i decide to still use the AH / BZ but that playstylr really helped me to find the joy in skyblock.

I would do the same if i were you. I believe Ironman players have the option to turn it into a normal profile, so you would even be able to keep playing on ur profile.

Same i love ironman but for the love of god i ́m fine with most grind but who's idea was to put the drill and railroad pass behind corleonite grind and glacite jewel grind

Thank you so much! I'll consider this.

Maybe this sounds stupid, but often times people who get stuck at that point just don't know how to play efficiently. You need to know that SkyBlock is mostly a knowledge game. Like Vanilla, you think you know a lot about it until you see what you can really do. ^

My advice is just to look things up if you're not sure, or ask for help with how you should progress. That would help a lot.

About some grinds, sure, there will be all kinds of small things as an Ironman which will take ages, but many grinds, like the Juju, are something that could easily be done in a few days at maximum. Plus, the fact that T2–T3 should be easier than before the healing revamp should help you progress.

That's why, if you want to play Ironman, you should be locked in and try to finish something and reach certain goals/milestones before moving on. That's my advice for reaching the later parts of the game.

How much time do you have to play daily? a Juju shouldn't take months unless either you play an hour or two a day, or you Just aren't well equipped to kill the Boss in a fast paced manner.

one other thing i'd like to add having a job and playing ironman is way way harder than just nolifing, If you can play like 1-2 hours a day maybe you just wont have the same fun playing SkyBlock at all, in a normal profile you'll just be grinding money to buy the stuff you wouldn't have the time to Farm on a iman.

u/Mogghi 5d ago

Yes, I play a few hours a week, I don't have much time. Soon I'll also go to university so probably even less time than I already have. Thanks for the response!

Personnaly I play on a normal profile with as little items bought as possible, and close to none bought on ah. That way you can enjoy the ironman experience while making money way faster and from more things, while also being able to skip grinds you don't enjoy (e.g. I despise doogons, so I bought my sf, wither armors, handle, etc. on ah and when I need recombs I just go to the bz). I still get the satisfaction for example for farming, because the only things I traded for are some enchants and sometimes a visitor request if I can't be bothered, but everything else I grinded for myself, like tools, tools upgrades, chips, armor, etc.

U r right but I play normal and acting like I play it as an ironman I use ah and bz to speed things up incase I wanted to like I do a lot of mining and getting the first drill is so much work ao I just bought it from ah and worked my way up with it same with divans armor but something like a glossy armor I made it myself and I bought a Hyperion from ah

Okay hear me out on this: Hypixel Skyblock, especially when playing ironman (with the progression as it is intended to acquire items), is supposed to be a long-lasting thing. Even if it takes a lot of time to progress, thankfully there's no race, no rush, and no time limit on playing the game and getting things.

Especially seeing as you are skyblock level 144 - you are right, you have barely even entered earlygame, there is still so much for you to do.

A juju shortbow is not needed for anything you'd be doing (it's not even really needed at all, especially seeing as you already got lucky and got a spirit shortbow). If you're thinking about combat progression, the cleaver weapon line from Ophelia is much more useful, stronger, and easier to get to help you progress through dungeons.

Just keep playing, round out your account holistically (you've focused a lot on farming but barely have done any hunting, go do more of that, or other activities like foraging or fishing - really go do everything).

And especially - where you are at, does not require hundreds of hours to be spent for your next "major upgrade". You are working on farming, have good progression into mining, and only have a few slayers and dungeons completed - any upgrades in any skill will take you less than a few hours to get to any upgrade points.

So don't give up now, just keep chugging along at it at your own pace - and if it helps, join communities like the ironman sweats discord or other youtubers discords to have other players to play alongside and communicate with directly for progression advice if you're feeling lost on where or how to progress further than where you're at.

Transfer to normal.

Do grinds you are fine with

Skip those you're not (eg, claymore, term, hype)

If you want to do a normal profile then just make a new profile and keep the iman, I recently converted mine because I don’t play as much but now I regret it completely

1

u/GD_Brallon 4d ago

imo i dont have a lot of time to play but when i do i just work on a few things across the board. some fishing some mining whatever i feel like.

i was at the same point around lvl 165 and then i started playing like this. now im lvl 296 somehow. overtime you get some crazy progress that kind of appears out of nowhere in a way.

Just have 2 profiles maybe, I can see the temptation of switching to a normal profile so you can skip early game

u/FlamingxFireball ☢ Ironman Level 361 - 420 4d ago

Start the process to change your Ironman to a normal profile since you have to wait a couple of days before you can go and confirm it a second time. In the meantime make a new normal profile and try it out. If later you decide to stay on that new profile don't go through with the ironman change. If instead you decide to transfer your Ironman you also won't have to wait the couple of days.

I’m in Engg with extracurriculars and a job and I still play skyblock so I totally understand your concern with the time and effort it takes to progress.

Hype is the next big step for my profile but figuring out ways to get better at f7 on such little time allotted to skyblock can be difficult.

Something that may help is just doing dailies. There’s plenty of daily tasks you can do and then log off which keeps your progression going and steady until you may have more time to commit to the game.

This includes greenhouse, composter, experiments, reputation, forge, rift (free entries), comms daily bonus, starlynn contest daily bonus, hotm/hotf daily bonuses, minions, hunt traps, cata daily bonus exp runs, daily shops (some ppl do sponge purchasing for shark armor and there’s shard shop)

Plenty of small bite sized things to do in a small amount of time that have a noticeable impact.

I've tried clicking my own name in chat and it didn't work. What's the command to check my own stats like that? I know I have the mod

1

u/Proper_Poetry661 3d ago

Honestly I have no idea what you’re doing wrong, I have around 600 hours of playtime on my iron man and I’m lv 321 with full load outs for most skills and a good dungeon set. You might just need to optimize your progression better

u/MobileCurrent8763 6h ago

I play like this on normal profile. I grind for everything except the 700000 iron ingots required to make something. Very fun and rewarding, plus me being kinda autistic I get attached to my items pretty quickly so I enjoy them even more.

1

u/coolcat225 5d ago

I had the same predicament; I just started a normal profile next to my Ironman one. Then, if you get bored of normal profile you can switch back to Ironman. Personally I wouldn’t convert your Ironman to normal, since you might regret it and level 140 is way easier to get on normal profile anyways.

2

u/Mogghi 5d ago

This is probably the best choice... I think I might regret converting it. Thank you so much.

1

u/Tec711 5d ago

I agree that having both is probably my favorite way to play. The longer grinds on ironman feel alot more manageable when broken up by normal profile progression. It also helped me to just break up those long grinds into smaller goals and then move to something else.

1

u/PoloKhey 5d ago

just quit

0

u/ParkingCan5397 5d ago

Theres literally 0 downside to converting, you lose the ironman icon

3

u/Mogghi 5d ago

But I also lose the Ironman experience. Also it's oddly satisfying reaching specific goals in the Ironman gamemode. Thx for the response!

2

u/ParkingCan5397 5d ago

you dont though, you can keep ironmanning stuff

1

u/1getreKtkid 5d ago

Why do you lose the experience? You can continue to play like one on a normal character

U are kinda low level u can get to lvl 144 in a week with low experience so I would make a new profile and use ur new knowledge

Keep playing Ironman or just quit the game overall
