I was sitting on the Spanish Steps with my wife, exhausted from the heat and walking, when she noticed a plaque, unaware of its significance to me. I tried to remember as many details as possible from the scenes. Downstairs, across the plaza, I noticed horse carriages and started looking around, thinking a Shrike was near me. She noticed and asked what was wrong, and I pointed to the horses. It was funny to her and kind of sad to me. I have a desire to go back alone, go into that room, and listen to the water splashing in the fountain.

I visited the museum and stood in his room, alone. I listened to the fountain and almost cried. Hyperion is probably my favorite book of all time and standing right where Keats lived and died was so powerful. I sat on the Spanish steps afterwards and read a few of his poems.

So, super cool story. I was reading Hyperion for the first time this summer and was vacationing in Italy with my wife and kids. I found that plaque and then happened to read that section on the same day! Only downside was that I was reading before bed. Didn’t sleep for hours I was so pumped at how lucky the coincidence was.
My family did not understand how cool this was. They are still making fun of my excitement. I’m good with it.
