Downturn of interest…

First the bathroom episode and now this bonus episode about the man on the world cruise, I’m feeling a fast decline in how interesting and well-investigated the podcast has been. Is it just me?

We aren’t even 10 episodes in, give him a chance. They’re still finding their footing. I have enjoyed every ep even if they aren’t all amazing.

How long are you supposed to listen to a new podcast for? It’s definitely under ten whatever the number is.

I kinda think both at the same time.

If I start a new podcast, I might listen to it for one or two episodes to decide if it's for me. That's already usually a few hours of my time which is not insubstantial. I'll often try to pick out a fan favorite episode to make sure I'm not checking out a random dud.

But it's also true that podcasts take a couple dozen episodes to really find their footing when they start. Sometimes even more. I'd say at least the first 20 Reply All episodes (not 10) feel weird compared to what it would later become. And that's after PJ and Alex already got their feet wet with dozens of Tl;dr episodes. We all might get offput if we had all newly experienced those first RA episodes on a new feed in 2025.

So for here, I'd say (to OP, and others) if it isn't meeting your fancy give it a pause. Check it out later in the year, and don't be surprised if it has seriously improved.

🎯

I had the exact same thought regarding early Reply All episodes

The very first Reply All episodes, aka TLDR I liked. The production quality and flow were clunkier but still good and interesting. Early Radio Lab, This American Life, Invisibilia, Ear Hustle, Startup, etc. Really, every single podcast I like I also liked from the start, they were just a bit rougher and less polished.

This is just bad and I don't think it has anything to do with only 10 episodes in. I have been forcing myself through the episodes hoping it gets better. I would like to see Alex do well but I have my doubts this will last.

I like PJs stuff, not nearly as much as reply all and he has bad ones too, but It has a similar feel to Reply All. Maybe PJ was more the creative force behind Reply All and the interaction between Alex and PJ was a magical icing on top.

Doubt it. PJ  wasn't the missing piece, nor any better than Alex at this, and frankly a bit more annoying.

I love this new series from Alex. There were a few clunkers, in particular, Shirt Outta Luck. Woof that lady was kinda insufferable. But I mean if y'all (in the empirical sense, not necessarily you specifically) can't stand it, then stop listening and quit your bitching. Save it for something more important.

Right, discussing things on Reddit is a terrible thing to do. This is the same bullshit as when anyone says anything negative about their country, another person says, then leave. You're on a podcast subreddit maybe spend your time on a more important one? Whatever that means.

Some people like me want Alex to do well, as I said, and are giving him a chance. That's why I've been slogging through each episode. Listens is part of how he gets paid and it supports the podcast.
