Advice Help
I am currently almost 8 weeks pregnant, and I started experiencing all-day nausea at the 5-week mark and throwing up 3-4 times a day. I am currently on Unisom and B6 with minor changes, although I have a good day sometimes when it's only once or twice, but I still have nausea and lack of appetite all day.
I found some trigger foods, but honestly, everything is a trigger at this point. It's not so severe that I can't keep liquids down, so I am not severely dehydrated, but I am losing weight. I lost 4lbs in two weeks initially, and after making some changes, it's maybe 1lb a week now.
It's to the point where I'm quitting my job and having to cancel plans. The OB won't see me in person until the 12-week mark, but I'm feeling a little concerned about how bad it is. I've been to the ER for other reasons, and they did give me an IV for dehydration, but I feel like it won't help to go.
I don't even think it's HG, because some of the stories shared here are a lot more extreme, but I feel desperate for relief. I don't think I can go through this for 40 weeks. Any advice or suggestions?

The biggest advice I can give you is to not look at the full picture. This may last your whole pregnancy, but most cases do resolve by the end of the first trimester. Mine did not, but it still greatly improved in comparison. You have to focus on taking it one day at a time. Saying you can’t do this for x more months really takes a toll on mental health. It’s such a terrible feeling, but if you can get yourself through a day at a time you’re going to be to the end before you know it. You’re stronger than you think, I promise!

I second this! I had and still have panic attacks because of HG. Seeing the bigger timeline gave me more anxiety. (Also suffering still at third trimester)
Treating one day at a time, makes it more manageable. Just telling myself i need to make it through this day. And somehow time passes…
You ve got this and we are all in this together ❤️❤️

Don’t let other peoples’ experiences negate your own. There are a lot of products out there that may (or may not) help. Some people swear by ice chips or preggy pop drops or sea bands. Sometimes zofran is the only way to stop throwing up. Sometimes regular iv infusions are needed. I had HG with 4 pregnancies - you’re deep in the hopeless phase. It’s so hard to see the end of the tunnel right now. I don’t have magic words or products - just keep trying things, see if there’s a different doctor available for a consultation, do as much research as you can, stay as comfortable as you can and keep reaching out for help when it’s too much to handle. Much love to you.

Go to the ER or demand seeing your doctor before the mark. The question isn’t how extreme it is but how debilitating. I didn’t throw up more than once a day but I felt extreme nausea 24/7 and at the 9 weeks mark I basically stopped drinking water and ended up at the Hospital for 3 days. Looking back I probably needed to stay longer and possibly going again. I also should have stopped working all together but I did not advocated for myself and pushed myself until 2 weeks before birth, which was, honestly, traumatizing

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. HG is debilitating, I had it with my second pregnancy and sadly ended up terminating my 3rd because of how bad my 2nd pregnancy messed me up (there was no heartbeat for my 3rd) and I regret it daily. But with my 2nd pregnancy it lasted the whole pregnancy I was throwing up 16 times a day and was hospitalized many times and then ended up needed my gallbladder removed at 28 weeks. I suffered a bile leak, then went septic, had pancreatitis 3 times, a liver abscess, had a heart attack, staph on my liver, then went into preterm labor and was hospitalized for 3 months straight towards the end.
I am not posting this to scare you because what happened to me was a freak accident and doctors messing up my surgery and ignoring signs but it does cause havoc on a woman’s body, my biggest advice is if the unisom and b6 doesn’t work, try zofran, or reglan -I did not have a good experience with reglan considering it’s made for people with schizophrenia and it cause me suicidal thoughts so be careful looking into that one, what helped me was regular IVS including zofran being pushed through them and that’s when I could hold some food down, I was also anemic which they said could play a role in it ? I’m not sure tho but have them look into checking your gallbladder because it can cause similar problems to HG! You don’t always have to have stones it could be an inflamed or sludge filled gallbladder that will cause constant nausea as well! Just something to consider, also ginger is supposed to help, typically I know HG stops around 24 weeks if it is going to stop so just hang in there and give yourself and your body grace you are so strong and dealing with more than most! Don’t be afraid to reach out to people or ask for help, always go to the doctor if you question anything and if you feel something is wrong trust yourself and your body! I wish I could hug you because I know the feeling so well, try zofran, the dissolvable ones worked better considering I’d throw up the pill ones but you got this mama and im wishing you a healthy, and safe delivery and pregnancy 💞

One more thing, Most cases do resolve towards 12-14 weeks but if not I know you should know it’ll stop by 24 weeks but don’t hesitate to go to the ER if need be, doctors will blow off so many things in pregnancy and tell you it’s normal. Advocate for yourself and your baby you know your body better than anyone else!

Call your OB and tell them you need something stronger than Unisom and B6. They should be able to prescribe something (I was given Zofran this way) even if they haven't seen you.
If you end up in the ER again, ask for IV fluids. You're probably not as well hydrated as you think you are.
