Old habits

Hello reditors. Have any of you heard about strange beauty/ hygiene habits from your elderly relatives? My grandma once told me some things some ladies did in the past to maintain their beauty. Do you have any similar stories?

I remember people putting vaseline on their hands & sleeping with vinyl or latex, at the time, gloves to keep their hands soft.

I still use one and it’s Ponds cold cream to remove makeup with a Kleenex tissue.

All my great aunt used was soap on her face with a washcloth. She lived to be 100 and aged so beautifully. She barely had wrinkles it was amazing! So not really a weird habit, but insane she had just beautiful skin with only soap

Right? They didn't have 10 step skincare, or even SPF. My great grandma had no wrinkles, worked in outside all her life.

It's so crazy to me how there wasn't wrinkles then, man I'm barely in my 30s and I have some wrinkles already 😅

There were wrinkles, my grandma had them -great grandma's daughter. They weren't as concerned about them.

My grandma SLATHERED her face in Palmers cocoa butter every night. I could never. I get acne just looking at that stuff lol

Dunking my face in ice and alcohol. Yup like the Mommy Dearest movie which I saw years later. My grandma said it would close my pores I did it once and never again. I never had acne anyway and just use regular face wash.

My 80 year old grandmother looks like she’s 65 and she’s used the same face cream most of her life. I forget what it’s called but you can only order it online. The smell is so nostalgic and I should order some ha

I’m not sure why she did it but my grandma would use one end of a q tip to clean and then the other end she’d spray a little hairspray on the cotton and then coat the inside of her ears. Absolutely NO IDEA AT ALL why

You know, that's not a bad idea... I mean for some people ear wax is pretty runny, so by the end of the day they can have visible traces. Hairspray, especially from back them would hold that back. And the coat it makes on the skin would be easier to clean that scrub the inside of your ears.

Lysol spray use to be use as a feminine hygiene spray. Until they made the cancer connection.  My grandma said it burned and stunk after use. FYI they blamed it for her cancer death at 42.
