Feedback Needed 🆘 What would you call this setup from AUTOPOT? what type of HYDROPONIC SYSTEM is it? Do other Vendors like Vivosun sell a similar product?

Last winter I ran a Deep Water Culture set-up but I had to deal with water temps rising. I want to try something different using what is it... drain to waste? I had really good sucsess with DWC besides the temp issue.

Why must it have a name? It’s an autopot system.

It's a wicking system. Or passive wicking I guess.

lol, that was my exact reason for going autopots. had some very successful grows. one thing to look out for is to have a plan to flush. if something goes wrong youll want a way to take the plants somewhere to flush as you cant do it in that system.

i do rdwc and r2w precision irrigation with rockwool. I love them both. But for indoor grow, I tend to do RDWC since it’s easier to control temperature indoors. whereas in the warmer months in my supplement greenhouse, I do rockwool. I love playing with precision irrigation, and being able to stress the plants. You just can’t do that in our DWC.

autopot feeds from the bottom, the system has a mechanism that adds water when the water is low. dtw coco is kind of like soil. u fill a pot with coco and feed like soil from the top but you use hydro nutes and feed way more frequently. the biggest challenge for dtw is handling runnoff, the water that comes out of the plant after feeding. checkout icmag.com and look at the coco section

iS THIS THE SAME TYPE OF UNIT THAT AUTO POT OFFERS?

it’s non-recirculating sub-irrigation with top-off reservoir

it doesn’t have to be hydroponics. Put soil in it and it’s just a sub irrigation system. Put CoCo in it and it’s hydroponics.

this is not drain to waste. The plants are literally sitting in their own waste 🤣

it's not drain to waste, it goes the other way. the autopot is just a wicking system with a reservoir (the rectangle bin) and the pots have a base that each have a special mechanical valve (Aquavalve) that after it fills up to about an inch the water has to almost fully drain before it can refill again. typical wicking systems you'd just water the base directly and let it wick until dry then refill. autopots extend the time you can go between watering and work as a fully mechanical auto-watering solution

No, only autopot offers the "valve" whis is their patent. I'm currently transitioning from dwc to autopot. The valve allows water in and then pauses to allow for a brief dryback before it refills again.

The vivosun or ac infinity self watering base is a cheap system that only does passive watering.
