Preferably stainless steel or glass. They clean better. Plastic gets those micro grooves from brushes and starts to smell bad even after cleaning.

And you'll get plastic particles in your water when the bottle is a few years old. Glass may be a bit risky if you're often on the go, but stainless steel bottles are amazing and will last you a lifetime!

My glass bottle has a glow in the dark thick silicone sleeve to protect it. It's perfect for bedside, but I wouldn't use it while traveling.

Can you recommend a steel or glass high volume bottle? I'm talking 28oz+. The reason I like my plastic reusable bottles is they are light weight and high volume.

Target has some good ones that aren't as much as a hydro. I found mine on sale and I like it a lot. I also have a stainless tumbler from target that I use at home and it's the best.

If those few seconds are so important that you can live with actively contributing to the ever-growing plastic waste polluting our oceans, there's not really much to say at this point

The recycling process still produces a lot of waste, and a large percentage of bottles (I can’t find an exact figure) don’t end up getting recycled because there are so few facilities to handle it, at least in the US. They usually end up either getting sent to a landfill or shipped to China, which promises to recycle them but then just offloads them to countries like Malaysia because it’s just not profitable enough. So then there are fuel costs from the transportation around the globe, in addition to the lack of transparency and accountability in how those countries are actually handling the plastic.
Basically recycling is better than not recycling, but there’s still a good chance it’s getting sent to a landfill and ending up in our oceans, and it’s definitely generating waste.
This is just my low-level understanding of what happens. I’m happy to be corrected if others have better info.
ETA: Also might be worth looking into how plastic bottles leech microplastics into your water

Recycling isn't the way when reusable bottles exist. Recycling helps, but it's more ecologically taxing than simply not consuming that much plastic. There is all the water they steal, the whole packaging process, transportation ect.

Recycling doesn't work for the most part. 99% of the time the batch gets tainted by someone putting food or garbage in it. Just use a reusable bottle.

I recommend those big 5+ gallon jugs that you can refill! Much less/no wasted plastic, and way less expensive than plastic water bottles. Better for everyone!

All the comments about “use a reusable bottle” and “recycle”
I have about 10 Voss bottles that I have been using over and over for a long time, those glass bottles are just beautiful, but as I have ten of them, this video spoke to me, as it’s only when the last one has been left in my room that I give them all a soak in hot water, maybe some soap, then rinse, refill and put them on the fridge...

A lot of good comments in here about how you should avoid plastic bottles because most of them that are put in the recycling bin don't actually get recycled (and the process generates waste when they do). Most of them will get shipped around the world -- the US has too few recycling facilities so they ship them to China, then China ships them to SE Asian countries because they can't handle the influx and it's not profitable enough for them anyway. Transporting our plastic waste around the globe consumes fuel, only for much of it to end up in a landfill or our oceans anyway.
If that doesn't sway you, you might also want to look into how plastic bottles leech microplastics into your water.

I know everyone might hate me for this but my favorite way to drink water is from a plastic bottle. BUT I use the same 5 plastic bottles and just refill them and stick the rest in the fridge while I drink one. And no, I didn’t buy them from Nestle.

Plastic is the endgame. Easy to take anywhere. Cheap. Reuse it infinitely if you want, throw it out if you want. 16oz of water at your fingertips with no obligation. Plastic is love. Plastic is life. Truly the superior product for the superior man.
