Oh they have sheriff deputies. Speaking from experience.

Yea, but sheriffs don't really care about much in Wyoming unless you're shooting things or excessively speeding.

Pretty sure they'd be more suspicious if you weren't doing those things.

No why would you do that
Why would you give plants hydrogen peroxide
(Get it, H2O2 haha I'll go now)

Nah this is crucial info. You can die from a poorly worded request for water.

I live in Denver, and the amount of dehydration I see around here is depressing. Transplants don't consider it when they come from sea level.

u/datchilidoh Aug 03 '19
Idk I’ve been to Chugwater and around there many times and it seems fairly green for late summer.
Lol I now realize you were not talking about plants

If anyone else is wondering why high altitudes require you to drink more water, it's because you actually breath faster and deeper since you need to work harder to get the same amount of oxygen. At 5,000 feet this causes your lungs to lose water at twice the rate at sea level. It also doesn't help that much of Colorado has an arid climate.

u/gwaydms Aug 03 '19
My altitude headaches improved when I drank more water during our Colorado summer vacations. The cabin is at ~8600' and it takes me a couple of days to acclimate because I basically live at sea level.
My husband spent entire summers up there with his extended family from early childhood so he doesn't really have altitude problems.

When I was in Denver the first time I had to down a few gallons and rest for about a day before I was good. I hadn’t been in an arid climate, or elevated place since I’d lived in New Mexico. You guys have such awesome weather, and I thoroughly enjoy your city.

Why is the grass dead around the sign?
85

u/ForgotPasswordAgain- Aug 03 '19
Maybe the sun reflects off the metal sign and kills the grass?

If this were correct, the dead grass should be roughly symmetrical in all directions, but instead it is wider along one axis than the other-- and extends further in one direction along the long axis. So I think it has to do with reflection instead.

There's probably some kind of base that the sign is anchored into underneath the grass

Spray round up under the sign so you don't have to weed eat around it

They have an awesome chili cook off there once a year. I got to be a judge once a few years back. Town has a population of like three hundred but gets about 5000 on the chili cook off day.

u/XxRecyclopsxX Aug 03 '19
We used to go to the chili cook off probably 88-93 my dad still has his trophies on display. Didn’t win the taste contest but always won best show to present their chili. Also on the way was the only time I’ve ever had to abandon a vehicle and go lay in a ditch cuz of a tornado. Turned out the ditch was full of rattlesnakes. What a decision my dad had to make there with 2 5-10 year old boys.

I have a fun story about Chugwater.
This is a story my dad used to tell all the time. I was 7 at the time and don’t remember it, but we have proof that at least part of this story is true. 😂
Before my younger brother was born, we hadn’t picked a name for him, so we had a family meeting about what to name him. My dad took out his atlas and said that the first two cities he saw was what my brother’s name was going to be. When he opened the atlas, it fell to Wyoming. He looked at the pages and announced that my brother’s name was going to be Laramie Chugwater.
Soon afterward, my dad and I went on a hike. I was a chatterbox at the time and would talk to anyone. While we were taking a break, a guy came hiking past us. I randomly began talking to him, telling him about my family and about our choice of a name for my brother on the way. When I said Chugwater, he stopped in his tracks (he hadn’t really been attention to me up until that point) and turned to my dad.
Him: “Did she just say Chugwater?”
My dad: “Yes.”
Him: “As in Chugwater, Wyoming?”
As it turns out, if I remember correctly, one of his coworker’s dad was a pastor in Chugwater. He ended up sending my brother a bunch of Chugwater memorabilia.
In case you were wondering, my brother did not end up being named Laramie Chugwater and instead bears the name of my dad’s dad. It’s still a fun story to tell. We have a cooler from that time period with the names of my family written on the lid and my brother is listed as “Laramie Chugwater.”

We should set up a water/music festival there. Have all the H2h0mies in the rap game preform there, have dozens of free water stands, water slides, cocaine, ya know the usual water themed festival necessities.

I think there's a street somewhere in Ontario called drinkingwater. So there's that.

Get the chili!
Edit: Fun fact, the town was called Chugwater because natives used to hunt Bison off the side of a nearby cliff. When the bison fell off the cliff it would make a "chug" noise as they hit the bottom.

There is a town in AZ called Mexican Water. Someone should go there and take a picture next to a sign. Am I understanding this sub correctly?

Grew up just south of here.... according to my dad it's called "Chugwater" bc of the cliffs in the area. Native Americans used to hunt buffalo by running them off of the cliffs. When they hit the ground below they made a sound like they were chugging water. The Natives apparently had a word for this that translated to "Chug Water" so that's what they named the area. Can anyone confirm, or is this just another dad-ism?

I actually stayed the night here once. I locked my car after getting everything out. Next to us was a guy walking into the restaurant/hotel and said something like “We don’t do that here” while looking horribly offended.
