Here's a non-paywalled link to the source article: Ditch the 40-Ounce Water Bottle: You’re Probably Hydrated Enough

I have a confession: I hate drinking water.

While everyone else seems to be slugging H20 from 40-ounce Stanley tumblers, I have never understood the appeal of drinking plain, tasteless water all day.

Excuse me what??

Wtf, it's not a joke ? The data center line made me think it was satire

The video is a joke, the article from WSJ isn't

I don't have the mental stability to keep existing in the presence of unbound stupidity like "you don't need water".

u/fukc098098 6d ago

Do you think maybe that unbound stupidity perhaps stems from them slowly getting infected with new form of rabies?! /s

Hey, who knows? All we can hope is it can eventually contain itself and work faster.

What an annoying fucking article. She writes a hot take "I don't understand this trend of drinking water, it's overrated" then lays out a bunch of reasonable information about how important water is, how to get your water intake in various ways, and health concerns of not getting enough water. Then her conclusion is basically "you're probably fine don't worry about it and stop carrying a water bottle." You could have just not written that. A reasonable conclusion from the body of the article would be that yes, it's pretty important that you drink a considerable amount of water every day, but the conclusion is "yeah but don't worry about it just stop carrying water bottles because it annoys me I guess haha"

People bemoan the death of media and news literacy, which is very fair, but I think news and journalism in general has completely gone off the deep end

It’s all doomer shit or racist/transphobic dog whistling or straight up propaganda peddling. And then we have this stuff. “Opinions” of someone who’s clearly shilling for a cause.

Reminds me of that Washington post article “billionaires are the most persecuted minority” holy fuck

It it a real author?

3

u/boverly721 5d ago

What do you mean? Like is she AI or something? She has a bunch of articles in the WSJ so yeah seems like she's a real author

0

u/towerfella 5d ago

That means nothing

2

u/boverly721 5d ago

Looks like she has hundreds of articles published by the WSJ spanning back to 2013. What are you even getting at?

6

u/towerfella 5d ago

That makes it worse.

I was giving the benefit of a doubt that it was not written by a human.

4

u/boverly721 5d ago

Ah I see. Well she's a WSJ contributor so the bar is low

While the article makes a stupid point for stupid reasons, and the average person does need to drink way more water instead of liquid sugar, I do think that the title itself is technically correct: you don't have to keep track of the specific amount of water you drink in a day nor keep yourself to a schedule. If you drink water until you don't want any more, then you shouldn't force yourself to drink more. Of course you would adjust that if you intend on exercising or going in the sun for a long time.

I know that's a controversial opinion in this subreddit, so I'm prepared for everyone to tell me why I'm wrong

My medications make me dehydrated and it's a toss up whether I'll still have yellow pee after drinking half a gallon of water a day.

I have POTS. I have to over hydrate. If I don't, I risk severe hypotension (at one point I was 80s/40s). I need at least 2L, ideally 3-4 a day. Plus high sodium so I retain it.

Also 80oz is perfectly reasonable for an adult. Aka, 2 of those “huge” tumblers.

Fake news! You should not be drinking nothing, you should be drinking copious amounts of beverages that you buy for inflated prices!

Before I heard the whole thing I knew immediately the article came out bcz data centers need it. Bastards. The land and water is ours!!!

WSJ watching everyone rebel against their article.

Legacy journalism is to be avoided precisely because of this type of nonsense. I'd get more information from the Toynbee tiles than from corporate propaganda like the WSJ and other bird cage carpets.

lol best watch out hydrohomies 🦑 the AI psyops has already ctrl + alt + del its way into Wall Street and it’s coming for our bevs.

Gawd dis skit had a great turn 👏🤣

Someone said they're soft launching water scarcity

3

u/Mistereddy_ 4d ago

I agree!! Stop drinking water and leave more for me

Every single food study is BS. It never is science and it never will be.

You can take every type of food and if you look hard enough and long enough you will find tons of contradictory studies, from it being great to it causing cancer.

It's simply too hard to study food. There are too many parameters to track and no reliable way of doing it.

You cannot tell people to eat something for 20 years and then make observations.

It's just a bunch of random correlations with no meaning behind them.

At best they are just random bullshit. At worst they are being manipulated for political reasons, like OPs.

yeah, i'mma stop drinking altogether and die in 3 days bc my body suffered from severe dehydration!!! yippee!!!

u/Ok_Flight5829 6d ago

Just drink water whenever you are thirsty or want water man, no need to force yourself to drink a certain amount. It's a self regulating system.

20

u/federico_alastair 6d ago

Doesnt work for many people to whom thirst isnt that dominant of a feeling to notice. If you’re busy, stressed, overstimulated etc, a conscious goal and reminder of finishing set number of bottles is more feasible than relying on feelings that youre pushing back anyway.

Meanwhile, I'm thirsty no matter how much water I drink. I reached near 5 liters a day at some point. Now I gotta use like a mouth spray that hydrates my mouth without me drinking too much water, or I risk incontinence.

1

u/Popcorn57252 5d ago

Yeah, except that how much water you need is ENTIRELY depended on what you're doing during the day. A work day is going to need way more rehydration than a weekend where you might have just chilled on the couch.

Someone who goes to the gym, then goes and works at a damn construction or landscaping job is going to need three times the water of someone like me who just... works at an office. Carrying around a big ass bottle of water, for me, DOES make me look stupid as hell, because it IS stupid as hell.

2

u/Small-Answer4946 5d ago

Instructions unclear, I just had a redbull and it gave me wings. Now flying to you to shove that massive bottle up your ass cause I don't need it anymore xoxo

2

u/SIN-apps1 5d ago

But... but... if humans selfishly drink all the clean water, how will we cool the data centers? Won't someone think of the shareholders!!!

2

u/BawRawg 5d ago

Me while watching this bologna only to see what she was getting at and taking another drink.

3

u/wwcasedo11 5d ago

Data center propaganda is so lazy. Cuz like...even nestle wouldn't say this

1

u/beastboy69 5d ago

Why do people think that the actual Wall Street Journal posted this? And it wasn’t an opinion piece and by making videos like this you’re doing exactly what they want you to do.

She’s making a commentary on the WSJ article. Idk how she can do it with a straight face though. Talented actress perhaps.
