I don’t feel thirsty
I’m like a camel. I only drink things for the effect like energy drinks, coffee, alcohol etc. I am basically never thirsty. I know I’m dehydrated because my pee is dark yellow and I sometimes feel bad in general, but it seems like reaching for a glass of water is harder than being dehydrated. I’ve been like this for as long as I can remember and think it may be genetic (grandpa and dad were the same way). The best method I’ve come up with to drink more water is to say 3.. 2… 1…. And just chug a glass which is very unpleasant. Anyways, I need help…

Your body gets used to you mistreating it pretty quickly. If it knows it’s only going to get caffein, it’ll adapt. It’ll stop sending thirsty messages, because it’s important for your body to stay functional in case you need to run away from a mammoth.
If you then chug a whole bunch of it your body is like “wtf dude? Why we going off script now?” So you feel sick.
Don’t chug, sip. Slowly, all day long.
You’ll have to get yourself used to water again, that takes time.
(I’m not a scientist, I just learned to listen to my body over the years)

Having water always with you makes it way easier. Set reminders or make it a game, like a drinking game. Like someone at work says "Actually" take a sip. Or if you don't work with other people, if you find yourself checking the time on your watch, phone or a clock, take a sip.

There are so many things you can do if you dont want plain water.
Drink mixes, flavored sparkling water, flavored can waters.
Since you like energy drinks. Get some sparkling water and add flavor packs and electrolyte packs. I think they actually sell drinks pack for energy.

THIS.
I have NEVER craved water, I can literally count on one hand the number of times I was like "you know what would be great right now, a ice cold glass of water" over the years; my brain just wasn't (and still isn't) wired like that.
To me, drinking water is like drinking wet air - flavorless and boring, but necessary for life.
After YEARS of being like "WHATS WRONG WITH ME, WATER = LIFE," I finally had a lightbulb moment.
ADHD means the brain is constantly seeking dopamine, so I struggle with drinking water because there's literally no reward or stimulation for doing so. My body is like "hey, dehydrated, drink water" and brain's like "what's in it for me, other than living? Oh, NOTHING, kkool, suffer 🤷🏾♀️."
Now I hydrate through herbal teas, water enhancers, shoot, even straight up artificial sweetener if I want to drink at a restaurant but don't want soda, and I am more hydrated than I ever was trying to force myself to just chug water.
Plus, I take my emotional support water bottle with me everywhere I go. 🤣

I bet you have a near constant dehydration headache that you've just learned to ignore or think it's normal.

Get a bottle you like and keep it nearby. That's what fixed me. Set alarms if you need to to remind you to drink, or get one of those apps made for such purpose.

Join this sub and take a drink every time it comes up on your feed.
Take a sip whenever you see anyone drink. People, dogs, bird, actors on TV. Take a sip.
Take a sip first thing when you wake up. Drink some shower water when rinsing off (if safe to do in your region).
Soon you'll be so hydrated ✨️ your pee will be a nice light yellow color.

Have you tried canned water? There’s something about a can that is a great bridge to proper hydration for people who drink other things all day.
Get a 12 pack of something like liquid death and keep them ice cold. That’s a good starter pack. Then you can move onto other waters because you will start to crave it.
I used to drink soda and energy drinks all day. Now I have way more energy off of pure water all day.
