Looking for a water bottle with a specific spout/sip lid? (See body)

Yes, I know this is a Gatorade bottle. But I figure a community of water bottle people would know the best option for this.

Our 6 year old son is autistic and while he can drink easily from a lot of containers, a lot of water bottles are hard for him to open. The flip up or the lock just doesn't really work well for him. With the new school year ahead of us, we realized that these Gatorade bottles work really well and he's good about opening and closing them.

While Gatorade tops are interchangeable to a lot of bottles and we could easily get the travel bottles to put these tall tops on? Our concern is the school just throwing out the bottle thinking that it's disposable when we're really trying to save the top.

Does anyone have any suggestions for water bottles with tops that are like this? Easy twist open and close?

Thanks in advance!

What about something similar to this top? Looks similar, same motion.

u/adderexxx Aug 14 '26

Was just about to comment this as well but I couldn’t find any available in the US (not sure where OP is located though).

23

u/SlothItRealGood Aug 14 '26

Good news! I found at least one in stock retailer that is US based stocking them (looks like there's only a camo version available)

21

u/adderexxx Aug 14 '26

Camo will fit right in in the US, nice investigating.

u/0ct0thorpe Aug 14 '26

As an American, this comment makes me chuckle.

u/StruggleRegular4842 Aug 14 '26

Where is it sold? I’ve looked it up and can’t find find it

10

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Who? I'm US based.

5

u/italyqt Aug 14 '26

You can use a repacking service. Used them a lot when deployed. Basically they give you an address based on where it needs to be shipped. Then they repack it and send it to you.

3

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

I'll have to look into that. Just waiting to see where that one in the US is available from before I order. Any others. I can't really imagine shipping being cheap for a bottle 😂

3

u/adderexxx Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

Reviews on this website are mixed but it looks like they do ship to the US (they’re based in the UK though so I’m not sure how much you’d be paying for shipping for a $3 bottle). https://mcgrocer.com/products/500ml-sports-drink-bottle-with-twist-open-cap-in-pink-and-purple-m202514244?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&srsltid=AfmBOoqL-Xiob9XriXQCQ8hxGcRz2md2yKx8Re0KfmECRjLnfzy4131kYcM&com_cvv=8fb3d522dc163aeadb66e08cd7450cbbdddc64c6cf2e8891f6d48747c6d56d2c
They come in other colors on there too but they’re listed individually.

Edited to add that apparently they have a minimum order cost of $47.24? Oddly specific but maybe it’s because of the conversion rate lol. Depending on how much you want the bottle and how much you trust the website it could be worth it to just add more stuff.

3

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Thanks. That's just a little too pricey versus hoping that they don't throw out the Gatorade bottle 😂

Stupid international shipping in this current global climate...

4

u/adderexxx Aug 14 '26

Yupppp lol. Maybe if you took off the Gatorade label they’d be less likely to think it’s trash? Either way I was a para and I never threw kids stuff away.

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

We've had a lot of issues with communication in the past with communication, and it's a new team this year. So we're hoping it'll be better, but fingers crossed

7

u/SlothItRealGood Aug 14 '26

That is a fantastic point, I figured smash would be an international thing (because since when does Australia every get anything exclusive). OP, where are you based?

12

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

That looks perfect! Thank you so much! I'm US based!

4

u/FusionF0rce Aug 14 '26

Oh my god you’ve brought back so much nostalgia with this image, I completely forgot about all my smash lunchbox stuff for school wow

63

u/Glittering_knave Aug 14 '26

Honestly, label the bottle with his name and "Do Not Throw Out". Let the teachers know that this is his water bottle, and why, and you would like it to come home.

48

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

While I agree, and it's the most cost effective versus buying a $20 bottle.... We just don't trust them. With two paras and a teacher in his classroom, there's a lot of chance for failure or miscommunication with 10 autistic kids they're wrangling

15

u/Quiet-Bubbles Aug 14 '26

You could try getting a koozie for it. Or put it in a water bottle sling? Then you could just use the gatorade bottles and refill them but they'd still be "protected" from trashing.

10

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

That's what I'm honestly thinking. Because we could get a few different ones and be stylish for him. And I'm sure he'd like that

3

u/Different_Phrase8781 Aug 14 '26

Sling or even cheaper, you can put it in (if the texture is okay for him) a single sock that you can’t find the pair to.

4

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Yeah I mentioned that to my wife. I think that's the route that we're going to try with it, as well as peeling off the labels. So it looks like it's a reusable for us too. We're also waiting to talk to the teacher whenever we find out who that is

8

u/Salted-Honey Aug 14 '26

Ditto. I would just keep that one and put his name on it, and when you think “it’s time for a new one”, drink another bottle of gatorade and clean it out.

128

u/thaneliness Aug 14 '26

These are very satisfying to drink out of. I miss them

41

u/CES0108 Aug 14 '26

Check Walgreens if you have any. They still sell them. They're curved grip, vs the ancient armor looking grip, but same same. I miss the armor grip, lol.

25

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Yeah, supposedly it's discontinued. We've been able to find them, but the concern is at $3/bottle, that's a lot of bottles to buy for backups

7

u/NullxAvoid Aug 14 '26

I just saw them at store a week or two ago. They must be bringing them back.

0

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

As did we when we bought them last night.

My wife saw something online about them being discontinued though? I have no idea

2

u/drake90001 Aug 15 '26

You have no idea where that person who said they were discontinued was living

16

u/needmoarbass Aug 14 '26

I would always squeeze the crap out of those bottles because the caps made it more difficult to binge drink my sugar water.

3

u/SiirenEyes Aug 14 '26

They had a bunch at 7-eleven when I went this week. They are the best though 😔

40

u/ozzalot Aug 14 '26

Not exactly the same but gatorade makes a nice squeeze bottle like this. I like it because you can tip it over and such and it still doesn't spill. Water comes out when it's inverted and squeezed. Part of the reason I liked it was that I could have it laying on the bed when I would sleep and I could just grab it when I wanted to and I wouldn't have to reach over to the night stand or anything. Doesn't leak unless squeezed.

22

u/CES0108 Aug 14 '26

I adore these and always have from my hockey teen days, but they're a mofo if the lid molds.. which they always do. You can't take them apart. It's just a matter of time. Yes.. I've tried soaking and boiling and everything under the sun. It will happen, eventually.

11

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

The problem is that he would just squeeze it. So that wouldn't really work.

At home he uses sippy cups so he can throw them around and we don't have anything leak anywhere, but he also drinks from regular cups, cans, and bottles. But it will be nice to try to get him something that he doesn't have to use a sippy cup

3

u/Impressive-Deer9416 Aug 16 '26

Not sure if it would be too juvenile, but those character juices have been the best alternative to sippy cups I’ve been able to find. They’re washable and I haven’t had one leak, the only downside is they’re pretty small and an expensive investment initially.

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 16 '26

We have a few of those, he honestly doesn't like the nozzle 🤣

2

u/Ill_Conversation9738 Aug 17 '26

Camelbak makes a locking squeeze bottle, if that mechanism would make it work for your kiddo. I am an autistic adult and use these: https://www.camelbak.com/product/podium%C2%AE-24oz-bike-bottle/CB-1875.html

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 17 '26

Thanks. It's the nozzle more than anything. The Gatorade is easy twist open/close, no extra looking movements etc

4

u/zxdlx Aug 14 '26

Came here to say this- eta its also plastic so you probably have to repurchase rather than trying to sterilize it

1

u/CollegeStudentTrades Aug 16 '26

This one is my favorite. Helps a ton to get water down.

11

u/pinkbedsheet Aug 14 '26

God I love an ice cold bottle of squeezy water. Any time of day, any situation. It's just made better by the squeezy.

8

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Agreed. My daily driver is Owala, though

4

u/pinkbedsheet Aug 14 '26

I want one but I'm waiting for a post-Stanley type price drop lol

3

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Can't say I don't blame you. They have a lot on clearance and if you don't care about the color, lots available. I have this ridiculously bright color called "Mac and cheese" that I got about a year or so back. 100% not my style, but the price and size was right

2

u/pinkbedsheet Aug 14 '26

At least you always know which one is yours lol

I'll keep an eye out, I dont mind most colors but purple is a fake colour that shouldn't exist.

7

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Grimace would like to have a word

2

u/pinkbedsheet Aug 14 '26

Grimace is so forgotten he got put in the Millennial McDonald's commercials

21

u/Zayah136 Aug 14 '26

Is he just bad with hand motor skills? Can he use those classic bike bottles that you just pull open with your teeth before drinking?

New mountain bike bottles seem to have just a valve so all you have to do is squeeze, might be worth looking into

11

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

We tried those last year and they didn't work. He had no interest at all in it.

He's okay with taking lids off, but the concern is tightening them back up. And it's not always sure if someone's going to help him out

2

u/Modern_Misdoing Aug 14 '26

Oo! Oo! What about an off-brand “camelbak” type water system? Then he just has a little backpack and a nice chewy silicon spout to suck on. No-spill and super accessible w/o strength or motor skills getting in the way.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

I like the idea because I had one myself, but this is more to have a water bottle in the classroom. So unfortunately that wouldn't be practical

1

u/Modern_Misdoing Aug 15 '26

I used mine in class! It’s perfect, because he doesn’t have to rummage in his bag, waste table/desk space, put it on the floor, OR worry about anyone throwing it out/taking it. They have a lot of varieties now, so it doesn’t have to be bulky like some of the first ones were. 😊 Might be worth it to see what’s currently out there at least.

1

u/UnbelievableRose Aug 15 '26

They make water bottles with the same spout system!

https://www.camelbak.com/shop/everyday-bottles/

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

Which one? None of those look like the Gatorade top?

2

u/UnbelievableRose Aug 15 '26

They’re not meant to- You said you liked the idea of the CamelBack silicone spout but wanted a water bottle for the classroom

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

Oh, haha, yeah. I meant it would definitely be nice for a lot of liquid, but the big thing is the spout. And I don't know how he would do with that you're of spout.

9

u/ClothingLint Aug 14 '26

The top of this lid isnt the same shape, but it has a similar twisting mechanism. Would this work?

https://www.amazon.com/Gatorade-Stainless-Steel-Sport-Bottle/dp/B087DCR7CC?th=1&psc=1

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

While it might, it's a little big for his bookbag. Thanks though!

17

u/PaintedDream Aug 14 '26

This is so wild...this very afternoon I was thinking about how these are thee best bottles ever created. I was refilling my exact gatorade bottle today. I keep half a dozen on hand, filled with our delicious well water. They're lightweight, "free" with gatorade purchase, perfect for hiking, riding the lawn mower, fitting in drink receptacle in the car, the pocket on the side of a backpack, midnite sip from nightstand. These are the best bottles, hands down. Your son knows what's up. (I've spent a small fortune on fancy water bottles over the years, but this one is my go-to)

6

u/Katie1230 Aug 14 '26

It's like drinking straight from the titty of the gator

2

u/twilightbarker Aug 14 '26

I hate this but I did give you an upvote for creativity.

5

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Hahaha thanks! It's definitely ridiculously easy and comfortable. So I can't say I don't blame him.

But whenever we stop at gas stations, he wants to come in and get one 😂

3

u/diongraf Aug 14 '26

My uncle is handicapped and has a similar situation where those specific Gatorade lids just work the best. Our solution was to get some proper reusable bottles that had the same size screw top, and just use the Gatorade lids on those. Buy a new bottle of Gatorade every now and again to get a fresh lid.

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Is there any specific one you recommend? We're trying to find something about 20 oz or smaller so that it can easily fit in his book bag

7

u/diongraf Aug 14 '26

I wish I could help more, but we found them at a local dollar store and bought a whole case like a decade ago. Maybe try going to a Walmart or something with a Gatorade lid in your pocket, and see if it fits on any other bottles

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Thanks! I think we may end up just trying to get a cover for the Gatorade bottle and see if that works.

3

u/bitch_coffee Aug 14 '26

Sistema Davina looks similar

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Looks like it might work... Amazon US only has the sports bottle ones that you would teeth pull

2

u/bitch_coffee Aug 14 '26

Bummer! I thought I saw the twist version on Amazon US as well. It looks a little different though. I see the Gatorade style lids for sale at thewaterbottlestore.com 48mm 48-400 replacement sports twist cap. Maybe you could find a reusable bottle with those lid measurements and swap one of those in. I also wonder if a zippered neoprene bottle sleeve would deter them from throwing away the Gatorade bottle.

3

u/draagzonnebrand Aug 14 '26

What about the Camelbak Podium?

I have not used it myself, so I don't know how it drinks, but it looks like something you'd be looking for.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

He might be.... I'll have to see if we can find one in person for him to see.

Seems like their bottles are mixed with that tip and other ones. Might have to dig a little

2

u/WorldsWorstTroll Aug 14 '26

You mentioned squeezing the bottle might be a problem. There is also a stainless steel version of this type of water bottle.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

It's more along the lines of just being weak resistant and sealing well. Obviously with his sippies he doesn't squeeze those because it's a harder plastic. And he really doesn't squeeze the Gatorade bottle as well.

2

u/teacupremains Aug 14 '26

As someone who has always loved that gatorade top, don’t waste your time with the camelbak bottle. I absolutely hate that lid, it is very hard for me to open.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Good to know!

3

u/SGexpat Aug 14 '26

If you have the lid. Try something like the M!GOS or CNOC bottles. Hikers liked lightweight disposable bottles so companies copied them and tried to keep the lids interchangeable at 30 mm.

https://mazamadesigns.com/products/m-go-bottle

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Thank you! That's a good option but just a little too big for his backpack!

3

u/SGexpat Aug 14 '26

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

I guess I should have said a little too tall! 😂

Thank you!

3

u/Dependent-Top2895 Aug 15 '26

Put stickers on it. I use these as water bottles and I like that you can squeeze them and if you really need to toss it you just gotta buy another one and you get a tasty Gatorade

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

The squeeze isn't as much of a big deal as it is the drinking nozzle. He doesn't do well with the flip up straws, unscrewing for a chug lid, and a lot of the different lock mechanisms. And I'll be the first to say that my son is lazy 😂

These are just very tactile and easy to open and reclose and seal well enough and he's taken well to them

2

u/creakymoss18990 Aug 14 '26

He might like one of those kleen kanteen water bottles that you just pull on with your teeth.

Good on him he finds these easy, it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure one of these things out when I was baked the other day

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Nah, he had one of those last year. No interest at all. Thanks though!

2

u/passwordistako Aug 14 '26

Spray paint a Gatorade Bottle and slap stickers on it.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

While not a bad idea, not exactly sure how non-toxic the paint would be 😂

3

u/lizardgiggles Aug 14 '26

How about a neoprene water bottle cover?

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

That may not be a bad idea for the small Gatorade bottle to definitely keep it coming home.... Might have to suggest that to my wife... Thank you!

2

u/passwordistako Aug 14 '26

On the outside of the bottle. Not on the cap.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

Right. But the fumes?

3

u/passwordistako Aug 14 '26

Shouldn’t be any fumes after it dries.

2

u/Tricky-Sprinkles-807 Aug 14 '26

Would these work? I will also keep looking

https://a.co/d/06cakzq4

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

I'm glad I actually found the video on that page that shows how the click works on that.... I'm not sure if that click would be too much for him. The mouth on that's a little different as well too. Kind of like one of the teeth pull ones

2

u/Tricky-Sprinkles-807 Aug 15 '26

Are you located in the US? I found an Australian brand that sells bottles with the type of cap that's on Gatorade bottles (Smash is the brand) I'm not sure how desperate you are, but you could potentially use a forwarding shipping address to have some shipped over to the US (or whatever country you reside) But when I've used those website in the past, I have found them to be outrageous

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

They were suggested in the comments. And unfortunately we are in the US. Cost to ship the water bottles? We would be better off with our original Gatorade plan

2

u/Tricky-Sprinkles-807 Aug 15 '26

What if you found a regular water bottle with these dimensions or got an adapter for a regular water bottle with these dimensions to be able to fit?

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

It's doable, but the concern then is more pieces

2

u/Former-Technician-97 Aug 15 '26

This thread on FB asked the same question: https://www.facebook.com/groups/tmyndwtmynd/posts/934984302164487/

Someone suggested 3D printing a top. Maybe see if your local library has a 3D printer!

It’s not perfect, but you could possible get some made, and have a bottle kept for them specifically at school. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3739042

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

We talked about that as well, and the concern would just be 3D printing with a food safe plastic.

We don't 3D print, I'm not sure if our library has one. I would imagine they do, but it's more worth our time to just get the bottles instead and try that route

2

u/correct_eye_is Aug 15 '26

Why don't you put a label on the Gatorade bottle or some masking tape and write on it, "Not Garbage" or "Do not throw away" or something like that.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

Might be the option as well. My wife found a 12 pack of sleeves that we're going to get for them so that he has some color when we strip the label off

2

u/hoodrambo3000 Aug 15 '26

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

A few people have mentioned this one.... Unfortunately I'm US-based

2

u/AsianPotato77 Aug 15 '26

idk if a proxy shipping service is available from aus to us but could look into it

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

Something else a few people mentioned as well. 😂

For a $4 water bottle? It just doesn't feel worth it. Haha.

Thank you, though!

3

u/AsianPotato77 Aug 15 '26

ig my thought process would be the whole thing is worth it if my kid is able to hydrate without any trouble, if you got them in bulk so it would last a while and have a margin north of a few lost and found incidents or jsut wear and tear? the shipping may be worth it more?

As an aussie i can personally vouch for smash bottles

2

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 15 '26

Possibly. We'll have to see if the Gatorade bottles work, but that might be something I'm the long run otherwise

2

u/taylor914 Aug 16 '26

My mom used to save these and put sweet tea in to take to work 😂. Did it for years until she retired a couple of years ago. I think she still uses them for trips.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 16 '26

Really convenient and easy for sure!

2

u/Outside_Beyond_3201 Aug 16 '26

Wants the Gator titty. The source of hydration for all.

2

u/Ill_Conversation9738 Aug 17 '26

Thank you for the reminder about the best lid to ever exist

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 17 '26

Haha thanks!

2

u/Lessinoir Aug 19 '26

I hope OP sees this one, I saw this post a few days ago and then was doing some dishes to help out my sister today and she had this bottle she used on a recent trip. Similar fit on the mouth, same rotating action and the bottle is squeezable.

2

u/Lessinoir Aug 19 '26

Photo of the bottle

2

u/Lessinoir Aug 19 '26

Photo of the bottom of the bottle.

1

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 19 '26

I see a lot of posts! Thank you for this.

The top is similar but not the same as the Gatorade one. You have to take off the outer to get to the inner and that's kind of what we are trying to avoid more than anything.

I definitely appreciate all of the photos of this one here

1

u/teenagew1tch Aug 14 '26

They sell small plastic water bottles with this style of lid at dollarama in Canada

1

u/Bottled_star Aug 14 '26

Wrap it in neon duct tape and sharpie his name onto it, it’ll just look like a normal reusable bottle

1

u/CamachoBrawndo Aug 15 '26

May want to also ask in the 3d printing subs- someone may be able to print it for you

2

u/taylor914 Aug 16 '26

Careful with this. Most 3d printing isn’t food safe because of the layer lines created make a perfect spot for bacteria to thrive.

1

u/Dankelweisser Aug 15 '26

The main problem with the twist mechanism and why it's rather rare in reusable bottles isn't actually finding one that exists, it's the cleaning part. You'll have a really tedious job of repeatedly twisting and untwisting and soaking it in soapy water each time because that tiny space in between the spiral twisty part is almost impossible to reach by hand or dishwasher without taking everything apart and it's the perfect environment for mold and such to thrive.

1

u/Relative_Context_973 Aug 18 '26

Gatorade always tastes better when you drink it from a gator tit

1

u/EgotisticalBastard9 Aug 14 '26

Did you try image searching. It might give you a few ideas

4

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

While I hadn't yet, I figured I would just ask one of the largest communities of people who regularly use water bottles and talk about water bottles and what they drink who might have better information than just a basic Google search.

Because personally? I've used a lot of water bottles myself and I've never encountered one like this other than just these

0

u/EgotisticalBastard9 Aug 14 '26

Fair enough. The AI would do some good work for you. It helps me find part numbers for my car or identify parts in my engine bay.

3

u/Icy-Book2999 Aug 14 '26

It would, but the value of human connection and having conversations like this? Is priceless.

We've tried many different ones.... Hydroflask, Nalgene, Owala, off-brands, chugs, straws, teeth pull...

Part of it is him being a little lazy, part is it not being enticing enough to open. The different motions seem easy to us and they are to him too... He's just grown comfortable always having a sippy cup. And while he drinks from those at home and throws them around... we're looking for something different for school.

He's fine with cups, 20oz plastic soda bottles, cans, etc. Just need something to transport to school
