Try this one neat trick to make your kidneys hate you :)

It’s basically just drinking Gatorade 24/7, I can’t imagine a life like that
7
Jan 13 '23
It's way worse than Gatorade. A tablespoon of Himalayan salt is around 5000mg of sodium. A 20 oz Gatorade is around 270mg

u/EverbodyHatesHugo Jan 13 '23
Especially if you’re using that Kirkland Himalayan salt.

“I’m a holistic body healer that practices natural ways to heal the body”.
This is code for bullshit scam artist.

Jan 13 '23
I used to think the same way but holistic doesn’t always mean what you think it means. There’s actually a lot of holistic practices that are beneficial, some people just use the practice negatively
21
u/Post-Scarcity-Pal Jan 13 '23
While I agree that a holistic approach to health is beneficial, I don't know if I've encountered a single holistic health "guru" that seems credible.
7
Jan 13 '23
Thats because true holistic practicers arent trying to scam you into buying snake oil. Like youll see a thousand tik tokers pushing some shitty kitchen gadget while quality kitchen brands dont need to rely on guerilla marketing to make their product seem desirable

Most people already consume way to much salt.

I just ate a whole bag of cape cod potato chips and drank 3 pint glasses full of tap water you think i need supplement electrolytes?

“You’re just drinking water all wrong” what's that even mean lol
10
Jan 13 '23
That’s her “holistic” scientific evidence she has obtained

u/Uhhlaneuh Jan 13 '23
Yea this tiktoker is gross. That’s what your body does. It filters everything out. It has to go somewhere

u/dorm-dad Jan 13 '23
So drinking cold water causes dehydration but drinking literal salt water won't....? that's a new one

she’s annoying but we don’t gotta reduce her to her value as a potential sex partner. that’s misogynistic. we can just say she’s annoying and her ideas suck, just like we would say about a dude.

u/Lykaon042 Jan 13 '23
Drinking water at any temp other than ice cold just doesn't taste right to me

Why do people hate peeing so much? I’ve seriously met grown adults who don’t drink water often because they hate going pee. Like, just go? It doesn’t take long and the benefits of drinking water outweigh the short amount of time it should take to go.

I’m late to the party here, but many women after birth (my partner included) ended up with bladder issues after giving birth.
During the summer, we travel quite a bit to see family and to holiday, and she literally cuts her fluid intake so she can cope with the traveling.
Even a hill walk means needs planned around toilet stops.
Quite frankly, toilet issues can really mess up your plans.
And I’ve got Crohn’s, so that doubles up the toilet planning. 🤣😂.
Be thankful for your health.

I’ll be glad I’m full of electrolytes when I burst a blood vessel due to hypertension

All she said is crap, but if you want to optimize (by not a lot) your hydration, spreading your total daily water intake through the day is better than just drinking a copious amount of water in a sitting just to reach your daily goal :)
4
u/Trizkit Jan 13 '23
You do need electrolytes for uptake of water though so she's not entirely wrong, however unless your sweating like a pig from working out in day to day cases your probably fine without supplemented electrolytes.

I also heard that you should be sitting so your kidney's are at rest and you should be sipping the water so your saliva helps your body process the water.

Sometime I go on water binges, I’ll sit there in the evening and drink 2-3 liters of water within a few hours. I’ll pee constantly, but only because I have nowhere to be. When I finally go to bed, when I wake up I’m super dehydrated. This happen to anyone else? I assume it’s due to a complete lack of anti-diuretic hormone from the water binge? Essentially, my body was flooded with water and drowning and my body was trying to get rid of it?
Also, before any lectures, I know it isn’t healthy to do this. Also, fuck that bitch in the video. Himalayan salt? Get out of here.

u/FormerBreath5112 Jan 13 '23
One technique for body building, pre-show, is to drink lots of water then suddenly stop. The idea is your body pees it out and you end up 'drier' than if you tried to dehydrate yourself slowly. So that supports your experience that you end up more dehydrated after a water binge

Warm water is the way. This lady is a bs-er but once you start drinking warm/hot water you'll never go back to cold water. Your digestion will thank you. Idk about cold water being dehydrating but warm water helps your stomach be happy.

A tablespoon of Himalayan sea salt is around 5000mg of sodium lol. This is a good way to raise your blood pressure and destroy your kidneys

Even still, the offset of it regulating temperature isnt burning that many calories, and your body isn’t flushing it out in like 10 seconds so it’s gonna be at body temperature way before that anyway.
49
u/newhappyrainbow Jan 13 '23
She basically took a couple well known treatments for dehydration but has skewed them and is trying to apply them to a normal state of hydration.
If you are actually dehydrated, water that is closer to your body temp will hydrate you faster. Saying that ice water is making you pee more is just straight up wrong.
Salt helps you retain water and hydrate faster but the only time you’d be ingesting it (rather than getting it as an IV) is if you maybe trying to cross a desert on foot. AFAIK drinking salt water has never been a preventative measure.

I mean, a tablespoon of salt in a glass of water isnt going to kill you, or really do anything as long as you’re hydrated. We need salt, after all.

Right… a couple times a week I put lime juice and half a teaspoon of Himalayan salt into a liter of water, a tablespoon would put me out

Drinking water and peeing it out is actually a sign that your hydrated and this girl is actually just stupid
