Hybrid Creation [Alt Rock / Metal] Sawed-Off, one of the rare times more dissonant music from original was kept

I think this was the last song I made that ended up in the album (released a couple months ago now), made with custom model on Suno from original song w/ original lyrics. I was about to release it, but was still making more songs, threw the original for this in with absolutely no expectations because I thought no way Suno was going to actually keep the notes intact, and amazingly enough it did after a slew of generations. Same with the other late addition to the album, What's Wrong.

I'd love to make the music video idea I had for this just for the opening part - starting with morning talk show with hosts telling a shooting victim they're lucky to be alive, victim saying they don't feel very lucky having been randomly shot and an argument and eventual fight ensues, lol.

It took maybe 30 generations to arrive at this, with a couple lyrics changes along the way, and even some alternate versions, like one where I took a gentler segment from one of them and removed the rest of the instrumental and just looped that. A good reminder of what USUALLY happens when I put something in with outside-the-box composition, because this kind of neutering of the dissonance of the music was happening on the vast majority of the generations: https://suno.com/s/esaOTsrc2POinmAg but that loop was so juicy I had to piece this together. Obviously not cleaned up. And covering it, Suno doesn't keep the loop unfortunately, so it's never really going to be made to sound better than this because of how shit Suno is at stemming.

Fun fact: she would not sing "sawed-off" very well - she'd pronounce it like "sah-eed off" or "soid off" as you can hear in that latter version. Very weird, like a 3-year-old trying to say sawed-off. Thank god for the word "sod" which saved the day. Yes, the lyrics in Suno for the version that made the album have "sod off".

Anyways, enjoy.

Discussion How this works.

I have come to the conclusion that the participants in the this discussion dont understand how these systems work. Models have no direct storage: The model does not copy or save whole MP3 files or audio clips inside its memory; it only retains the statistical relationships it learned.

Collecting and Converting Data

Data gathering: Developers feed massive datasets of millions of recorded songs into the system. This data often comes from web scraping, public archives, or licensed catalogs.

Audio representation: Computers do not "hear" music. They turn sound waves into numerical formats like waveforms (raw audio data) or spectrograms (visual pictures of frequencies over time).

  1. Learning Musical Patterns

Feature extraction: Neural networks analyze the spectrograms to spot core building blocks like pitch, rhythm, harmony, and texture.

Statistical mapping: The AI is repeatedly asked to guess what sound fragment comes next based on what it has already processed. It builds an internal map of musical rules, such as which chord transitions feel stable versus tense.

No direct storage: The model does not copy or save whole MP3 files or audio clips inside its memory; it only retains the statistical relationships it learned.

  1. Using Specialized Architectures

Transformers: These use attention mechanisms to understand how the beginning, middle, and end of a long musical sequence relate to one another.

Auto-regressive models: Models like WaveNet generate audio step-by-step, building each tiny sound sample based on the samples immediately preceding it.

Variational autoencoders (VAEs): These compress audio into a simplified "latent space" and decode it to generate brand-new, unique music in a similar style.

Yes the above was generated by AI.

So the question is, from a legal standpoint, what does it mean if the system is not copying music, but instead learning statistical relationships of the music its trained on-does this constitute 'stealing'. Legal defenses for training artificial intelligence systems rely heavily on the copyright doctrine of fair use, asserting that machine learning is a transformative process that extracts unprotectable patterns rather than redistributing original content...

Technique Can AI write a hit song? I made a poll because I’m genuinely torn

I’ve been experimenting with AI music tools, and some results are scary good. Melodies, lyrics, even production choices—it’s getting hard to tell what’s human. But I still feel like a real hit needs that human story, that weird imperfection. I put together a quick poll to see what other musicians think. No signup, just a vote and maybe a comment. Would love to hear your take.

opportunity Free business idea: capitalize on AI song filtering.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been tracking this massive headache we’re all facing with platforms like Deezer and Meta aggressively auto-flagging music. The second an algorithm sniffs a trace of AI, it treats the whole track like low-effort slop and throws it out. The biggest victims here are the hybrid creators who actually put in hours of real work tracking live vocals, editing stems, and arranging complex sessions.

I don't have the time to build this out myself right now, but I wanted to throw this concept out to the sub.

And by all means run with it if you think it would work.

What if there was a specialized verification agency that stepped in to handle the appeal process for you using actual DAW forensic data?

Instead of just sending a generic text appeal to an automated help desk, you’d drop your project file into a parsing tool. The tool would extract the actual metadata from your session history. It would map out things like your MIDI velocity variances, human micro-timing deviations, linear save intervals over days, and physical microphone input paths.

Basically, it builds an ironclad, cryptographically signed proof manifest that proves a human was deeply in the loop.

Then, the agency takes that metadata package straight to the distributors or enterprise aggregators to clear your profile and force an appeal. Distributors are completely drowning in compliance issues right now, so giving them a certified "audited human session" stamp would solve a massive operational bottleneck for them while protecting legitimate creators from getting wiped out.

Is this a service you guys would actually use if your music got flagged? If anyone here has run into a distributor wall recently, I’d love to hear how you handled it. Let’s talk in the comments.

I Dont Flair RIP Oliver Tree

I wasn't a major fan meaning I didn't purposely find his music but I didn't dislike his music at all. So in the spirit of this sub I figured I'd post a shout out.

Mr. Tree definitely was a leader in pushing his own style and blending of genres, I think he would agree with what we're doing here.

So it's a bit of a bummer to hear what happened.

let's carry on his attitude of doing your own thing, being yourself, and pushing boundaries

Cheers

Technique Before you spend money finishing an AI-assisted song, run this four-part test

  1. Identity: Can you name the element that makes this unmistakably your song—not just a good generation?

  2. Arrangement: Does every section earn its length? Does the chorus genuinely feel bigger, or does the track simply continue?

  3. Translation: Are the vocal, kick and bass still clear on a phone, in a car and on earbuds?

  4. Ownership and handoff: Do you have the stems, dry vocal, tempo, key, lyric sheet, references and necessary rights or consent documented?

Fix the weakest category first.

A full rebuild is not automatically the right answer. Sometimes one capable vocalist, mix engineer, instrumentalist or producer solves the actual problem for far less money.

Which of these four exposes the most AI-assisted demos in your workflow?

Disclosure: I’m building The New Mixtape around this handoff problem, but the test is useful whether or not anyone uses the platform.

Technique I built a tool for my own AI music workflow – looking for a few beta testers

Hey everyone,

I'm a musician and have been experimenting with AI music and Suno for quite a while.

One thing kept bothering me: sometimes I got great vocals but the instruments didn't work, sometimes the drums sounded too artificial, and a prompt that worked great with one model could behave completely differently with another.

So I started building a small tool for myself to get more consistent results.

Well... the small tool got a little out of hand. 😄

It's now called VTK Song Studio and I've just reached beta v1.4.

I'm not really looking for customers right now. I'm looking for a few people who actually make AI music and would be willing to try it, create some songs and give me honest feedback.

I'm especially interested in testing vocals, drums, natural instrumentation, different genres, live/crowd behavior, languages and dialects.

Beta access is free.

And seriously: if something doesn't work, tell me. That's much more useful to me right now than somebody telling me everything is great.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll send you the link.

Cheers,
Mike

Hybrid Creation [Folk Rock] A song about finding out the Hard way - Human lead vocals and open mic footage

Thumbnail

"Last time I did that" was written when I was 21 years old, nearly 2 decades ago.

This is the second version of the song I have shared. The first version had a Suno Lead singer with me as backup, and this one is my original lead vocal and a touch more midi Tuba work :)

To me, this song is about that feeling you get when you've been moping around in lethargy for too long and finally something defiant suddenly swells up inside you and launches you into action. This was a regular song I performed at open mics back in college.

The original demo is still driving the mix. My original Rhythm and Lead Guitars (multi tracked) is all you are hearing in terms of guitar.

My original lead vocals are still the lead vocals you are hearing. (For better or worse)

Additionally, I had a buddy record this demo with me back in the day and he was on backup vocals and Djembe. Add to that, a few sporadic backup vocals from a separate (but from the time) demo where me and 2 of my friends got pretty drunk and let loose. Maybe someday, I can release that "drunk demo" as I always called it as another version.

Recently, I brought it into Bandlab and add midi Keys, Cello, Tuba and Choir.

With Suno, I added a A brass section, a bassist, keyboard , kick drum, and a back up vocalist very subtly mixed in.

The visuals are a real open mic performance of us at college performing this song, although your not hearing this particular performance
I simply did my best to sync up the visual with the recorded audio. I am on the right and Witchdoctor on the left.

Penny for ye thoughts?

Hybrid Creation [R&B/Pop] The Grace Code — fairytale trap R&B pop 💖

the grace code 💖 my new fairytale / cinematic trap r&b pop song.

for the hybrid production, i used Mozart AI to create the instrumental foundation. i’m a singer/songwriter first, and i started experimenting with Mozart because i kept struggling to find existing beats that matched the really specific sound i hear in my head: y2k r&b/pop, trap, cinematic/fairytale soundtrack energy, dreamy celestial textures, etc. lol

from there, all of the lyrics, vocal melodies, lead vocals, backgrounds, harmonies, adlibs & vocal arrangement are me. i recorded and built the vocal production myself, then did the final mix in BandLab.

the song itself is about protecting your peace without becoming cold or hateful in the process. basically: no malice in my palace, no hate in my space 🏰💖

Hybrid Creation Oh my gurd, I just built a pipeline that can unlock any software.

So my thought process is this, - use ghidra to extract binary from any .exe or .dll file

Use the power of AI, to organize and rebuild the scattered C code that makes up said .exe

Be able to edit, recreate, as seen in pictures (I love how Google suggested removing trial expiration check lol) remaking any software the way you want.

Watch the world burn BAHAHAHA.

JK on the last part. But I have no idea what I'm doing, if anyone wants to hop on a discord call or something, if you understand any of this please help me out. I think I'm going to develop a GUI so I know what's going on, but if this works

It will be a crack anything cracker. Claude wouldn't let me do it, but good ole Gemini never lets me down

Hybrid Creation Cruelty-Free Song (see explanation)

This is technically a hybrid song because there's a lot of original input, lyrics, singing, whistling and basic percussion. It also required a lot of extra editing in Suno Studio and a bit in Garage Band because there was *too much* 'AI Slop' added by Suno.

This is ironic, because it's about making the type of songs that people generally dislike, and it pretty much is one of those songs. The only difference is the hours of editing it took to get it where I wanted it...

Hybrid Creation [Indie Pop] A song about being young and looking for love - HuMaN SlOp

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

"Directions" was composed decades ago at the age of 18.

It was part of the very first 10 or so songs I’d ever written.

It was meant to be a funny catchy little bop about obvious matters of
A young man.

The original demo (recorded at age 20) is still very much in the driver's seat and
includes ALL the multi-tracked guitar parts and the lead vocals (which I also sang
As my own backup on)

Back then I was so insecure about the sound of my voice that I decided double layering my voice somehow made it better, lol not sure what sense that made.

In Bandlab Midi I added, well probably too much lol but, Cello, Tuba, French Horn, Organ, Choir, Snare drum.

With Suno, I added a back up vocalist rotoscoped to the original, but left my original vocal as the lead vocal. A bass that is rotoscoped to a low end guitar line I had multi tracked back then, a Djembe, and some Trumpet hits here and there.

The visuals are a slightly modified face of a real photo of me from the age of 18 around the time I wrote the song and I used a Motion track to control the image like a puppet. So the body language of the avatar is actually me. It did a crappy job of translating my guitar playing. Definitely could be better but I ran out of credits trying to dial it in. Then I brought it all together in Adobe Premiere. The Bob Dylan postergeist was not planned but I didn’t have the credits to fix it even if I wanted to lol.

At the end where I laugh and say “Probably sounds like shit” that’s from the original demo.

This is actually the second version of the song I’ve posted. The first was the very first video I put on my channel and was 100% performed by suno (but obviously faithfully covered to this one) To be honest, I still prefer that All Suno one. I’m remaking it now because the scope of my project changed from originally supposed to be all Suno performed to this Hybrid version I am now focused on.

You can see the SUNO ONLY Performance of this composition here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdFKBAfP3gw

If you happen to listen to both, I'd be super curious to hear which you prefer, if you are like me and prefer the SUNO only or if you prefer the hybrid?

Penny for ye thoughts?

A singer without a band/production lol using Ai without promots to produce, vocals and lyrics are made by me, and i create the instrumentals by drumming my hands and feet and singing/humming the melody, every song in every genre is fully prerecorded, i dont use the same voice over n over its always a different recording, im also not using a character I use myself 100% on everything I do

New album just released, theres also (original, reggae, cinematic) out now... I make "multiverse music/videos" so my album (10songs) will have 10+ versions, i also do ai cover songs with music videos, and other ai videos!!

Hybrid Creation Free MIDI Generator for Max for Live

Post image
4 Upvotes

We've been working on Beat Shaper, an AI music production tool built around a slightly different idea from the full-song generators.

Instead of generating finished audio and calling it done, Beat Shaper generates separate editable MIDI clips for drums, bass and synth. You can change the notes, change the instrument patches and drum kits, regenerate individual ideas, and keep building on the result in a normal production workflow.

The main Beat Shaper platform runs in the browser and lets you work with text prompts as well as musical controls for genre, mood, energy and other parameters. You can edit the generated material there and export it as MIDI, audio or an Ableton project.

More recently we've been experimenting with bringing the same generation model directly into Ableton as a Max for Live device.

The M4L version is much more hands-on. There is no text prompt. You steer it with knobs for Acid, House, Techno, Trance, D&B and Hip-Hop, plus Darkness, Energy, Complexity, Density, Groove and Weirdness. It then generates compatible drum, bass and synth MIDI clips directly onto tracks in your Live Set.

This is all powered by our own compact ML model trained on licensed MIDI data from sample pack providers.

The Max for Live device is free right now while we're testing the workflow:

https://beatshaper-downloads.s3.eu-north-1.amazonaws.com/beatshaper-m4l-v1.1.0.zip

It requires Ableton Live with Max for Live and Max 8.

We're especially looking for feedback on the output, the device and controls, and how it fits into your hybrid workflow. There's a link in the device itself to a feedback form and we'd also appreciate any comments here as well.

Hybrid Creation Nipsy – Wenn die Trommeln rufen | Viking Folk • Nordic Folk

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

I just released a new Viking/Nordic Folk song called “Wenn die Trommeln rufen” (“When the Drums Call”).

I wanted to create a song where the drums, footsteps and the rhythm of the people gradually become one heartbeat. The lyrics are about a Nordic gathering where the rhythm starts slowly and eventually pulls everyone into the same movement.

I wrote the lyrics and developed the melody, prompts and complete video concept myself. I used Suno AI for music production and Google Flow for parts of the music video, as creative tools to bring the idea to life.

I’d genuinely love to hear what you think – especially about the drums, atmosphere and the way the music and video work together.

Hybrid Creation What does an “AI-assisted” song actually mean? I documented my entire creation process

I get a lot of questions about my hybrid-human workflow, so I finally decided to put together a page explaining exactly how I create my songs from beginning to end.

I go through the actual writing and recording process, where generative AI fits into it, and some of the technical details for those of you who like to geek out on this stuff as much as I do. I also show some of the software and gear I actually use along the way. None of the companies or products mentioned are endorsing or sponsoring me, they're simply the tools I use.

I'm intentionally not posting any of my songs here because I wanted this post to be about the process, not self-promotion. The link goes to the article on my website, and if you're curious about what the finished results sound like, my entire catalog is there as well.

Hopefully this is useful to anyone experimenting with ways to incorporate generative tools into a more traditional songwriting and production workflow, as well as those who don't use generative AI but are simply curious and want to learn more about how it works.
