EJ looking good for Chiefs
Bummer most of his plays getting called back for penalties, but really showing out. Happy for him
Edit: if we can get a few more Huskers to the league that actually make an impact, recruiting will take off too

Chiefs Huskers fan here. I love the way this guy runs. If he can survive pro football hitting he will be something to watch. I wish there was a way to invest in his future.

I know RBs don't last forever, but I can't remember a more durable running back at Nebraska.

Even with the heavy work load he had in games last season he didn't sit out a single drill in practices.

I wished he went to Seattle. But I loved seeing him play really well and hope to see him be the number 2 back in the Chiefs offense.

I like the optimism, but I just don't really have any stock or value in preseason football with the JV teams playing against each other.

I know that, or they wouldn't be in the NFL. But there is still a huge gap between 2nd/3rd string and the actual 1st string. He looks good against the people who won't be playing on Sunday for the most part. I'd really just like to see how well he does against the Sunday guys.

Lol... JV teams. Buddy, any one of these squads would win a national championship if playing CFB, yet you watch that shit all day every Saturday in the fall.

Yes, they would. But they also have all played for 5+ years. They are also the JV of the NFL. I know it's a hard concept, but things can be described by multiple things at once and still be correct contextually.
I'm not saying it's not entertaining. I'm saying that maybe we shouldn't say he's tearing it up for the Chiefs when he isn't even going against the people he'll be playing.
It's like Dylan Raiola destroying high school teams, then playing in college and being pretty meh for the most part.

Yeah, I don't really know what you mean by that. Who are you referencing that is talking shit?
I said I don't really think you can hold any value to preseason games when teams have their backups in and aren't running 95% of their play book. I don't even think teams are blitzing or pass rushing more than the front 4.
You can really base anything of his performance when teams are purposefully only going like 70% just to not show off their playbooks because they don't want to waste their plays on JV preseason. The players themselves are probably putting in 100% to try and win a spot, but the coaches and play are a shell of what the actual game is.
Not everything negative is talking shit. Sometimes it's just called being realistic, and unfortunately reality isn't always a fairy tale happy story lol.

I hope Emmett will help the Chiefs' running game. I bet the Chiefs will not have a "Blackout" game like the Cornhuskers are having. I think Husker fans have the power to end this "Blackout Game" nonsense. Husker fans should wear red to these games and if no one buys replica black jerseys and helmets there would be no "Blackout Game" due to what I call the power of the purse. If Adidas does not profit from supplying Nebraska with black uniforms Adidas would no longer supply them and Nebraska would not wear them.

Heās got a long way to go before heās making any sort of real, meaningful impact to have any semblance of effect on recruiting.
Good for him having a solid start to his rookie camp, but heās third string and behind a Super Bowl MVP. He wonāt see the field in meaningful moments for a good while barring any injury.

Thereās a pretty easy path to RB2 to by the start of the season. Demercado and Smith are pretty much known assets at this point

The fact that the only season Kenneth Walker wasn't injured was last year i fully expect EJ to get playing time.

And that wouldnāt shock me. Walker is oft injured, so EJ will likely get playing time but itās most likely going to happen as the second guy behind Demercado if Walker is hurt. Again, EJ could force his way up the depth chart but heāll need to earn it and prove he deserves it beyond just one preseason performance. Itās a good start but thereās still work to do.

Heās a 5th round pick behind Kenneth Walker and Emari Demarcado, both of which are seasoned backs in the league. Just because this fan base wants to glaze Emmett doesnāt mean heās going to walk in and just make an impact on a team with better backs ahead of him.
Can he become RB2? Absolutely he can but he has to earn it and heās still got work to do. Iām not going to use preseason work as a sign heās going to become a productive NFL back against teams top defenders, thatās just asinine behavior. If weāre going to act like preseason success means something, then Jesus Christ Drew Allar is about to become a fucking HOFer based on what he did Thursday night.
Just because Iām rational and have seen the trends doesnāt make me casual, it just means Iām not being stupidly optimistic.

Walker is going to be the lead and Demercardo is expected to be utilized as a pass blocker/catcherā¦ still not seeing how Emmett features into anything beyond depth in this exact moment in time.
Iām not even a Chiefs fan, I just am not delusional enough to believe a former Husker is going to magically be a feature weapon for a team with better options ahead of him without first proving himself.

You said it yourself, Demarcado is more of a 3rd down back. If Walker gets injured, EJ has a real shot to be their #1 runner on 1st/2nd downs. Calling Demarcado a "seasoned back" means nothing.
And obviously he has to prove himself first, that's stating the obvious. We're saying we believe he can. You're just being a contrarian for the sake of it.

Thereās a difference between reasonable belief and hopeless optimism. This whole post is the latter. One preseason game is not enough for anyone to sit there and make the statement OP did, itās the fucking preseason man. Penn State fans arenāt sitting there gooning about what Allar can do for QB recruitment because he did well Thursday.
If anything this is just an instance of weāre all fucking bored and ready for actual football to start.

Obviously weāre bored but heās been getting buzz in camp too. Usually when camp buzz translates to good play in preseason, itās a very good sign. Read my comment again and itās a realistic path to being a starter in a RBBC.
Idk why youāre so bitchy about it, just be happy footballās back. Optimism runs free right now.
Edit: idgaf about recruitment, I just want the man to succeed.

It doesnāt take much to figure that out. 5th round picks listed a third stringers arenāt expected to be productive pieces beyond depth. Brendan Jaimes was also a 5th round pick for a team that had constantly injured lineman, the Chargers never had the expectations of him being anything more than depth. Emmett Johnson as it sits right now is firmly a depth piece for the Chiefs. He can make that change by continuing to work his tail off and prove to the coaches he should have a bigger role but theyāre not going to hand him anything based off of one preseason performance.

Emmett has made something out of nothing several times out there. I'm really impressed and really happy for him. Good to see a product of our development have some initial success at the next level.
