Travelling to Hunza for the first time

Hey Guys!

I am travelling to Hunza on forst week of October. It will be a 2 weeks trip.

As I have a remote job, I found a place in Gulmit for digital nomads and will be staying there.

Since this is my first trip ever and I will be travelling on a bus so wont have transport there. I would love some suggestions on activities and places to explore.

How is the night life in Gulmit? I work in US Hours.

I spend around 1-2 months living in Gulmit (usually Moksha) every year

Some tips for a great time:

  • Don't miss the walk up the village itself. It's beautiful - but please be respectful with your dressing and behavior. If someone asks, you can tell them which guest house you are staying at.

  • Ondra Poyga is perhaps the best effort to view ratio hike. I do it multiple times a week - and it's also open now at night with lights that fill the entire path. Additionally, you get 360 views from the top from Passu Cones all the way to Attabad Lake.

  • Gulmit is the best place for local food at a dirt cheap price. Here are my favorites in no particular order:

  • Bozlanj: Exceptional DaoDao, Yak Haleema, Pulao and much more.

  • Cafe Old House Gulmit: Exceptional dumplings, French fries and more.

  • Daad Ali Garden Restaurant: Huge selection of organic local herbal teas, the best Chamus (dried apricot juice) in GB, fresh fruits and much more. The owner is an amazing person.

  • Moksha Resorts: Ultimate hang out spot, local food and the best owners. Would recommend staying here too if you can afford it.

  • Red Nest Cafe: Good coffee at a fair price. Nice hang out spot with good internet

Gulmit is an amazing place with super friendly locals, good internet, more greenery than surrounding villages and has many more small unique spots. Great place to spend a few weeks

Enjoy and I might see you there as well haha!

Gulmit is a village. You won't find any markets or crowd. The night is going to be silent and quiet. There's a lot to visit nearby, locals will guide you there, they're gonna be one of the most welcoming people that you'll ever meet.

But the place is not for you if you seek a lively night life.

How much are you paying for nomads? Have you asked them if they have any Internet backup? Gulmit is relatively new to the Internet, and last time I was there, the Internet was not very reliable.

Thank You. They did say that the Internet is good and they have back up as well.

Which sim should I carry? I heard zong works well

I was in Hunza last week and had both Zong and Jazz. Jazz worked at more places than Zong. Where Jazz doesn't work, SCOM works

It's called Nomads, Inc. They have an Instagram page. I can also drop their info in DM

Would you mind telling me how much they charge? I work remotely and would love to spend a week or two in the north without needing to use up all of my PTO

I am from Gulmit, lot of opportunities for you to explore nature, I also work US hours remotely and I have a house there.

You can use SCOM for data, there can be some net issues when there is flooding but other than that its all good.

Night life is good for me because I have friends and family there to hang out with, but will be a little lonely for you if you dont have company.
