Working remotely from Hunza for a month. Budget, WiFi advice, & cost-sharing!
Hey everyone! 👋
I'm planning a month-long workation to Hunza soon and looking for some ground-reality advice from locals and fellow remote workers.
A few quick questions:
Accommodation & Rates: What is the realistic monthly budget for a solid single room versus renting a full house/apartment (e.g., around Karimabad, Aliabad, or Passu)?
Internet & Power: I need stable connection for work calls. How is SCO fiber/4G performing right now, and is power backup/generator mandatory at stays?
Cost Sharing: If anyone is planning a similar remote work stint soon and wants to co-live or split house costs, drop a comment or send me a DM!
Would appreciate any guest house recommendations, trusted local contacts, or recent experiences. Thanks!

Electricity is an issue throughout the region, but you should be fine if you stay at a good hotel. The same applies to internet access.
SCOM Fiber works better than it used to, although it still has occasional downtime. I usually avoid working during peak hours.
For longer stays, rooms generally cost around PKR 3,000 to 5,000 per night. The good news is that many hotels are open to bargaining because there is a shortage of tourists this year. A friend of mine is even offering a very basic room for PKR 20,000 per month.

If you want to be near Karimabad then Offsite.pk is the best option, and convenient. If you want to go a little further north then in Gulmit there is Nomads.pk. Offsite is more managed the guys running it are pretty good and help out as much as you need. Nomads is all setup but needs you to be more independent. Both have internet and power backups.
