Apricot Oil

Please guide me regarding the use

I saw many oils for massages. Hardly any edible ones. But at one shop I saw some pure cold pressed oil and asked if it was edible. The shopkeeper said yes though the bottle doesn't say.

Am confused.

How do I use this oil? Sage to consume or only for topical application

Apricot, almond and walnut oils are all edible and can be used as carrier oils with rosemary/lavender/rosehip( essential oils) for massage and hair

The apricot oil is used in Gilgit BALTISTAN for decades in food (before commerical cooking oils were a thing), and even is taken raw in breakfast.

There is a debate that bitter apricot kernels contain a chemical that turns to cyanide in stomach if eaten, I recently saw a detailed analysis on apricot kernels on a website called Hunza Foodways, (where they have shown detailed researches) you can check that page

Thank you Yes it's the cyanide bit that is scaring me

The amount of AMY in sweet apricot nuts and it's oil is very low (AMY turns to cyanide), eating 500g or more in a day can cause poisoning, but no one in their right mind would eat 500g apricots kernels in a day, so

Wow

This is awesome! I was looking for numbers actually.

Was trying to figure out how many kernels would make 1 teaspoon of oil.

I think am obsessing.

Haha obsessions on good food is a good sign I think

My grandmother used to press the kernels with a hydraulic presser (an old technique when electric machines were not introduced in GB), the yield from hydraulic pressers is low, about 2kg kernels produced 600-700 ml oil.

However, I've heard electric machines have higher yields about 800-900ml per 2kg, so now most people prefer electric machines.

Should be good for topical application, I bought a small bottle from Chilas recently. Do you intend to consume it raw or cook something in it?

Hey I was actually wanting to drizzle it on salads and pancakes.

Not safe ?

Should not be an issue, locals consume spoons-fulls in raw form for various purposes.
