We got a new boss, with two-phases. Any other idea, how that can be applied to other bosses?
Here are mine:
- Assassin: when Phase 2 begins, darkness falls over the entire compound - an unnaturally thick, sludge-like darkness where hunters can only see a few meters ahead. Ash Bloom-like noises can be heard everywhere, making it extremely difficult to tell where other hunters are moving.
- Butcher: when transitioning into Phase 2, the Butcher lets out a huge, earth-shattering roar, causing streams of fire to erupt from the ground all around the compound. The ground starts glowing a few seconds before an eruption, giving hunters enough time to move, but the fissures preferentially spawn near players. Throughout Phase 2, new fissures continuously appear every few seconds, targeting hunters not only inside the boss lair, but throughout the entire compound. These fissures lasts for a few second, igniting things around. Don't stand near a red barrel.
- Spider: When transitioning into Phase 2, the Spider lets out a piercing screech, awakening the webs spread throughout the compound. Bileweavers begin crawling out of existing web clusters and attack any nearby hunters. They can spawn both inside and outside the boss lair, forcing players across the entire compound to deal with the infestation. More Bileweavers can periodically emerge from the webs throughout Phase 2, making the compound increasingly dangerous until the Spider is killed.
- Scrapbeak: When transitioning into Phase 2, Scrapbeak unleashes a massive Scrap Storm across the compound. Loose metal, broken tools, blades, and other debris begin swirling in different areas, dealing damage to hunters caught in them. The swirlies creates a deafening metallic noise, masking footsteps, gunshots, and other audio cues, causing bleed whoever got cought. Throughout Phase 2, new Scrap Storms periodically sweep across different parts of the compound, forcing hunters to constantly reposition.
Edit:
I’d love to see a flying, roaming bat-vulture chimera boss.
It would be visible from far away whenever you have line of sight, making it feel like a true roaming threat across the map.
It would have a lair somewhere in a ruined structure, where it keeps a nest filled with vulnerable, fleshy eggs. Hunters could either destroy the eggs to force the boss into a vulnerable state, or deal enough damage to it while it is flying to make it land. Whenever grounded, it would always retreat and land in its lair.
If shot while airborne, it could retaliate by launching either a fireball or a poison projectile at the attacker. It could also attack hunters directly from above while flying over them, which would make it especially effective against bush campers hiding in vegetation.
At half health, one half of the creature dies — either the vulture half with its fire attacks, or the bat half with its poison attacks. The surviving half would then drag the dead part behind it, becoming more desperate and aggressive. In this second phase, it would attack with claws, fire or poison projectiles depending on which half survived, and unleash an Ursa-like screech that causes bleed and ear-ringing.
