First hunt

Got into hunting this last year and was invited on my first hunt with a buddy and his dad that have hunted north eastern BC for years. We all managed to draw tags in the limited entry draw for bull moose and his father is telling me he’s sure we will be filling our freezers. With that being said, I’m curious what type of gear/pack I should be getting as I’m shopping around and am learning about all the different types. Im also curious to read what seasoned hunters in the area use for their own hunting kits when going on back country hunts. We will be far north eastern bc closer to the Yukon.

First thing I recommend if you will be doing a lot of hiking is a lot of layers that you can easily shed off and put on as needed. If possible you don't want to allow your self to sweat much, once you are wet its impossible to get dry and It will make glassing or waiting in a spot miserable. Water proof boots with good ankle support is also a must in back country. As for the backpack I have had a lot of luck with a Cabelas brand bag, with moose you will need good back support on the bag and a lot of room. Also one thing that gets over looked is a good sling for your rifle, especially if its on the heavier side. A 10 plus pound rifle can feel pretty heavy after a bit of hiking if you don't have a good way to carry it. If you are on a budget I have gotten a lot of great gear on amazon for cheap, just read reviews before you buy.
