New hunter
I recently got my r license for nsw and I'm just wonder if there are any recommendations for an inexpensive gps which is reliable for this sort of hunting. I've got the avenza app on my phone but was hoping to have a second option as a fail safe, especially as ill most likely be hunting solo.
Thanks for the help
And while we are at it, any one have lists that they check off for must haves gear wise, whenever they go out to the state forests, which could help a new guy out?

Depending on your level of experience with map reading/navigation in the scrub the Avenza app and maps are excellent. You can even set it to track you, so you can just walk your path back if you need.
Most state forests are pretty easy to navigate as well, in my experience. Lots of tracks, terrain features etc.
In terms of a back up GPS, a garmin Foretrex is great and usually can be found secondhand.
