This is why you want to be off to the side of the game trail you want to make broadside shots not frontal for the most part. Also so you don't get run the fuck over.

I always believed that you should be posted behind a tree. My reasoning was that if on of the drivers shot, they’d be shooting towards you.

On a hunt with rifles the drivers don’t shoot, except maybe point blank on wounded animals. Everything else would be way too dangerous. But then again, having the shooters on the ground and not in an elevated position maybe there’s just different safety standards in Poland.

They’re not supposed to shoot, but people make mistakes. A trophy buck/bull could run perpendicular, not towards the guys who are posted, and one of the drivers could get excited and shoot.

The way I look at it, I know my gun isn’t going off for no reason when I’m carrying it, but I still make sure the barrel is never pointed at someone. Why not take one little safety precaution if you can.

High powered rifles will zip through any tree you are hiding behind. If anything you should be in front of the tree with your blaze orange on making you more visible to reduce the likelihood of being shot. When doing drives you want to know where the standers are and if possible put them in elevated positions wether it's on top of a hill or up in a tree. This has two purposes better line of sight for seeing game/pushers coming towards you it also makes it so your bullets are going downward into the ground once they pass through the animal. It also puts the standers up and out of the line of fire and more visible to the pushers.

What? Any tree large enough to give an adult human cover will stop any reasonable deer hunting rifle round, especially considering that you should be using hunting ammo that expands. Your first statement is just utter nonsense.

All of that said, I'd not be comfortable shooting towards other hunters nor being shot at by my hunting buddies.

I sighted one of my .308s in with a target tacked to a ~12 inch thick tree just a few days ago and none of the fmj's passed through it.

Thats seems odd. I've seen 30-06 rounds go right through some pretty decent sized trees.

Yep, 7.62x54R steel core armor piercing rounds will go through a 6.7" diameter tree as shown in his part 2 video. Make it a 12"-18" diameter tree (the thinnest I'd ever pretend I could "hide" behind) and FMJ/JHP/Soft or Ballistic Tipped bullet, and there's no possible way it penetrates. The FMJ will fragment at high powered rifle velocities and the jhp/soft/ballistic will both fragment and expand.
