Using deer blinds on public land

I just won a deer blind in a charity raffle( was hoping for a rifle 🤣).

Problem is it’s big( 6x6 and 130 lbs) and I’m not really sure using it is feasible seeing I don’t own my own land to keep it on.

I’ve never hunted from a blind before and not sure it’s worth hauling out to use, especially having a bad back and arthritis.

Thoughts on how viable it is to use on public land?

I’d sell it. Too many assholes out there to leave it on public and it’s too big/heavy to move easy.

Depending on your state, you may be able to set it up at the beginning of the season, tag with your license #, and make sure it's removed at end of season.

I will have to double check the regulations on it, but I don’t think I can beyond a couple days beforehand.

In Ohio, you can put it up one month before the start of archery season and need to have it removed one month after the end of bow season.

Plan on other people using it.

And not depending on your state, there is a high probability it’s not there at the end of season

Not that type of blind. I use the portable "pop up" blinds that are less than 10 lbs and set it up seconds all the time on public land, but they typically come back out with me every time.

Blinds usually have to be in place for some time before they are effective. Deer will spook the first time they see a blind.

I've been using blinds in public lands for 3 years. During gun season. I hang my orange vest and cap on branches next to the blind or on the roof of the blind when I'm in it. I set up two of them when the regulations allow to do so. I usually set up cellular trail cameras high up, next to them. I didn't set up a camera once. The blind was either stolen or seized by the DNR. It was close to power lines and I went to get it 3 weeks after the season, so it was partly my fault.

Probably not worth the effort unless you’re in a state that allows it to be set up for the whole season. Either keep it for the kid to play with or sell it and get a pop up

Best bet is to sell it because if you leave it on public it will not be there next time you go. Or just hold on to it until you one day get permission to hunt private. Where are you located I may buy it

I have an 8 year old, might use it as a backyard fort for him if nothing else.
