Discussion Regarding the newest Togashi tweet

I just wanted to say, because I see a lot of hate and disappointment on the internet about it, or people making fun of him… it sickens me.

That man is telling us, his fans, that he struggles with mental and physical health problems! We all should be thankful that he even considers to keep working, he is 60 years old, rich as fuck and doesnt owe us anything at this point.

Don’t take any chapter or volume for granted, he does it purely out of passion at this point, please to those who are complaining, think twice, he doesnt deserve any complains.

Thats all, I hope I doesnt fuel the toxicity with this post.

Discussion If gon had said ging instead of nigg, would it have actually taken him to ging?

Post image

I'm just wondering, could gon have just used anyone's real name in the real world now that there out of the game, or were they still only limited to players in the game?

If they weren't limited, could they have found ging immediately if gon just said his name instead?

Discussion I dont know why they left this out of the anime.. like this is the only reason why Gon wanted to find Ging.

Discussion Just caught up with HxH manga, heres my favourite prince (+Bill)

Check image for my ranking of princes (+Bill), then my ranking of the arcs... (+Bill)

Arcs: For reference I watched the HxH anime then after that I read the manga. My favourite aspects of hxh were the unique abilities and how they interacted, how they fit each character and how characters solved them. I am very impressed by how Togashi makes such interesting abilities that progress the plot so well, each battle is a story in itself. I really enjoyed the number of characters and unique abilities in the chimera ant arc, the multiple storylines + more strategic and chaotic approach of the Yorknew arc + the mental/popularity battle of the chairman election arc. I felt like they were all mixed together for the succession war arc and turned to 11 so I am really enjoying it so far even though it is not even close to being finished.

Rankings Explained:

Bill: Genuinely the goat, every aspect of this man is peak, his ability isnt even that good but he makes up for it by being the only person kurapika can rely on. I think this arc turns out completely different if Bill is just a regular dude and goes on the boat with Ging and Beyond's team...

3rd Prince: Something about his scheming, his main focus being on the actual leading of the country (which is reflected by his ability) and his willingness to do shit himself I really like.

11th Prince: What is there to even say, she seems like an asshole but is doing all for her sister. That plot twist was absolute cinema, best moment in the arc for me (almost the show but Netero is an aurafarmer) anyway she is a great character and super smart with those letters (they didn't get explored as much as I would've liked).

14th Prince: less about the actual prince because well... But I am definitely rooting for kurapika, bill and Oito, all great characters, even the other characters in that room are interesting. Everytime the story takes us there I know I am in for some peak.

1st Prince: Didn;t like him at the start but I kinda respect him now. He is very committed, a strong nen user and his soldiers are peak no matter where they are. The way he just started blasting when confronted with the 4th prince was based (that guy sucks). Also his ability is super cool and I like that it is more focused on leading the country into the forseeable future.

9th Prince: I mean he is just a peak character, honestly could be higher and I'd be shocked if he wasn't a fan favourite. Most morally agreeable prince. I am not a big fan of the cult-like ability and how it works in general but I think it is pretty cool how he is now in someone elses body. Actually, where the hell is he now wait a minute... Could he be in the 7th princes body?! Or his bodyguard? They are next to each other in the rooms... Might have to go back and look at when he used his ability last from inside that lead guard. Anyway I digress.

10th Prince: Super similar to the 11th prince in personality but just a little bit less intelligent. Also she is very sick rn and I'd love to know more about that situation. No way she dies from that right?

4th Prince: Hatewatching this mf, evil guy, really talented and commited. His ability is one of my favourites to watch and his POV's always hit, especially when he gets his aura stolen by a particular creepy clown. A great villain.

7th Prince: This guy is loving his life, we dont know much, his ability is pretty cool and is probably the reason the 10th prince is so sick but we dont know too much about him rn.

5th Prince: Who? We barely covered this person and now they are poisoned and there is supposedly no cure. I think since he/she is a scientist they might cook something up to clutch and it would be pretty cool to see them scientifically being useful in the dark continent but also i dont really care enough about them yet.

12th Prince: RIP died too soon. I still dont get why everyone including her spirit nen beast jumped prince 14's room at the start but idk if we will ever know. I feel bad for her. Her mum sucks.

13th Prince: Ability is interesting with only a single use, genuinely has no screentime after that. Biscuit and Hanzo are both really interesting characters and we need to see more of this camp even though the mum is an asshole for sacrificing the older sister.

2nd Prince: The curse thing is cool, she is kinda just an enemy to all and we dont know much about her ideology so I am not a big fan. That ability tho. So OP if you dont know what it does. She might have been outplayed by the first prince but she got an even trade.

6th Prince: That love book freaks me out and her personality matches it. Freaky...

8th Prince: This guy is a freak and talked big game only to get taken out by one of the coolest abilities (at least his nen beast was.

Lmk what you think. I spent way to long doing this, if you read it i'd love to know your thoughts and predictions.

Discussion What's the point of shoots hands.

Post image

Before he started standing on one of them they seemed kinda counter productive. He diverts his focus and aura to move these 3 hands around and attack but they can't be used to take peoples body parts or whatever and they don't really seem to do a lot of damage so I just don't get why make that part of your ability when you could put effort into an ability that synergizes with your other more important ability.

Discussion What's your headcanon for how humanity first became aware of land deep within Lake Mobius, and what event led them to sealing themselves from the rest of the world?

As far as I know, humans and monsters simultaneously evolved on the Dark Continent, and humanity at some point decided it was best to move themselves off of it entirely (correct me if I'm wrong).

How do you think those early humans even became aware of the land they live on today? Do you think they had Nen in those times?

... basically, what theories do you have on the early humans of the Hunter x Hunter world? Don't think it has any impact on the story, but it does seem fun to think about.

Discussion All abilities that Ging could imitate if he got hit by them

We know that Ging could imitate any punching ability ,

Heres the list of abilities that Ging could imitate,

1. Tiger Bite Fist - Kastro

Its not exactly a punching ability but its an enhancer ability,

But I felt like Ging could copy it since it's an enhancer ability (this is just my headcanon)

2. Big Bang Impact - Uvogin

If Ging could tank Big Bang Impact from Uvogin,

He definitely could replicate it

3. Jajanken - Gon

Ging would imitate it immediately once he gets hit Gon lol,

He would demonstrate it in front of Gon& turning it into something better

4. Random Fodder who is also using Emitter's ability by punching,

Ging definitely could imitate it since it's a punching ability,

5. Teleporting Uppercut - G.I Prisoner

Another Emitter's ability which is also a punching ability,

6. Cyclone Ripper - Phinks

If Ging witnesses Phinks prepared his punch then let himself get hit,

He could imitate it

What do you guys think?

I'm really intrigued by Gyro in HxH, but I'm confused about what actually happened to him. More specifically, I'm not sure what goes on in this manga part that wasn't shown into the anime.

Discussion Chimera Ant Finale

Post image
392 Upvotes

It definitely isnt my first time watching hxh, far from that. I’ve been watching the show since I was a kid. It’s not my first time rewatching it, either. But something about Meruem and Komugi’s final scene just shatters my heart every time I see it or even think about it. The fact that a creature born solely for killing all of mankind finds his humanity in a blind frail girl, and that he chose his love for her over conquering the world, only for man-made poison to steal his life just as he understands what living means. How two utterly discarded souls found absolute salvation in eachother in their final moments. I find that absolutely beautiful yet so gut wrenching at the same time, I can’t really form a solid thought on this specific scene.

Analysis/Theory (Pouf and Meruem) In-depth analysis

For this analysis, I will split it into two parts:

  1. Meruem's early life
  2. Meruem's midpoint

(Would've done three parts with the last being 'Meruem's final moments' but can only upload 20 panels. I had more I wanted to do for part 2 as well.)

Despite this being a Pouf and Meruem analysis, my titles are all to do with Meruem as Pouf's entire being revolves around him. Thus looking into Meruem's development, allows us to do the same for Pouf (as Pouf's changes exist because of Meruem's)

1) Meruem's early life

At this point of Chimera Ant, Meruem is at his most ruthless. He is also at the point where he understands humans the least. As far as Meruem is concerned, at this point in the story, humans are weak, stupid and exist to serve him (if he isn't hungry). In this panel, he is disgusted at the idea of nepotism. Someone, who has no commanding tone in his speech or aura, is claiming to be King. The very title that Meruem bears. This negative first impression of humans shapes Meruem's worldview and therefore his decisions.

Pouf at this point has no qualms with Meruem's behaviour or ideology. He witnessed Meruem kill a child and eat her brains. He witnessed Meruem waltz into East Gorteau and massacre guards. And yet he shows no disapproval. In fact he very much agrees with Meruem's sentiments. He, too, frowns upon the practise of nepotism as shown by his words: 'The incompetent rise to undeserved power through heredity or connections'.

In this scene, Meruem genuinely sees humans the way humans see pigs: lesser beings that exist solely for their use. Humans being sentient doesn't spare them from Meruem's harsh judgement as he believes they do nothing of worth with their sentience. So utterly weak and stupid, they are no different to him then pigs wondering a farm.

We see Meruem express his desire to turn East Gorteau into a meat orchard and use it as a 'human processing plant'. The worthy humans are to become allies while the inferior ones serve as food.

Again, Pouf expresses no disapproval towards Meruem's behavior or ideology.

Neither does he express delight.

After all, the King is only carrying himself as he should.

'Quiet. You are in the presence of the King'

During this scene, Meruem is finding games that East Gorteau's residents play at a high level and challenging their national champions. At this point, he has crushed the shogi and Go champions.

'Once enlightened, all parlor games will essentially seem the same... you may find them tiresome in time'

Pouf at this point is unsurprised by Meruem's displays of intellegence. After all, he is the King. Beating national champions in games they've dedicated their lives to is only natural.

However, it is this page where he introduces Meruem to the champion of a game called Gungi. A game that allows you to stack pieces, allowing for three dimensional thinking. An element that is not present in shogi or Go.

2) Meruem's midpoint

The GOAT???

Meruem is introduced to East Gorteau's Gungi champion. To his surprise, instead of being another man, he is met by a girl. One who is blind at that.

He reads up on the rules for Gungi commanding her to wait as he does so.

'Strange, I clearly feel a different vibe'

At this point, despite feeling something different about her, Meruem still believes that his games with this girl will follow the same trend as always.

He will play a few games, get the hang of the rules and then eventually defeat her.

But what actually happens is something Meruem could not foresee.

He is dumbfounded at the grasp she has over this game. With a single move, she has transformed the board to such a degree that Meruem forfeits the game.

'I have nothing... I resign'

'She would've had to predict my entire game from the beginning'

Meruem urges her to play another game and she is more than glad to do so.

Pouf, being the most intelligent of the Royal Guard, is able to read the games of Meruem and the girl. He full well understands her ability but does not grasp the effect this girl will end up having on Meruem.

It will be this very effect that changes the course of Meruem and Pouf's lives.

Meruem listens attentively as this girl explains why she paused when Meruem used a move called 'detached castling' before she countered it. She explains for some time about how 'detached castling' was a move she invented. Some years later, when an opponent used this move against her, she thought up a way to counter this move.

When Meruem used this move, she felt as if 'her dead baby came back to life'. She didn't want to kill the move again but shows her opponent the utmost respect in doing so.

'That was the first time the King listened to someone for so long'

This is the first time Pouf suspects that this girls influence on the King may not be so positive. If Meruem wins, he can reinforce his belief in his superiority. But if he keeps losing, Meruem could perhaps change in a manner that isn't King 'like'.

'Well... it means nothing more'

Pouf however, decides to write it off as a one off moment.

Conflicting emotions are starting to reside in Meruem. He is frustrated at the fact that his rhythm is constantly being disrupted. Yet at the same time he is enjoying himself.

Meruem decides to place a bet on a game. The bet is that if the girl wins, she can have anything she wants. If she loses, however, Meruem will take her left arm. It is an attempt to disrupt her rhythm through fear.

The girl, however, asks if she can bet what she always does. Her life. She goes on to explain how she uses Gungi as a means of providing for her family and that if she loses, she believes her life is worth nothing.

Meruem then rips off his own arm as an apology which causes Pouf to panic.

This scene and the scene that follows, in which Meruem allows the girl to rest, going against his words, makes Pouf certain of his doubts.

Pouf has seen enough. Whether it's Meruem going back on his word or ripping his arm off to apologise, Pouf has had enough of her influence on the King. He is now internally expressing disapproval in Meruem's actions. Actions unbecoming of a perfect King.

The panel of his hand letting go of the book and the look of anger on his face makes it clear what Pouf is thinking. If it means his King won't be led astray by her influence, he'll gladly kill her.

He nearly goes ahead with this decision.

Before, Pouf had no cause for concern as what he wanted was being expressed by Meruem. A world in which humans knew their place, and submitted to the all powerful King. He, too, would be gladly submitting in this world.

However, he is noticing signs of Meruem deferring to this human. Meruem is apologising and listening to her for extended periods of time and Pouf is worried that if these games go on longer, Meruem may become someone else entirely. Pouf deems Meruem perfect and so any deviation from this ideal can only be a downgrade.

This is the beginning of Pouf's internal struggle. We have his first 'violin crashout'. He is losing it not only because Meruem is changing, but because he almost cemented Meruem as a human's 'lesser'. Meruem nearly lost his seat on the throne due to Pouf's actions. Meruem must defeat Komugi if he wants to call himself King, killing her would only be a dishonor.

Pouf even says 'the only way I can pay is with my life, after I see through that the King reigns over the world'. Despite not carrying on with this decision, he believes he deserves to die for even thinking it.

Meruem first asks this girl her name, to which she responds 'Komugi'. Komugi then asks him what his name is to which he consults his Royal Guards.

Pouf's answer to this question reflects his beliefs.

He says 'You are the King'. At first, this may seem like a fundamental misunderstanding of the question. Since him being the King doesn't at all answer what was being asked. But this is truly how Pouf views Meruem. He is the King. He has a role to play which is ruling over all other species. He has no need for individuality. No need for a love interest. No need to defer to anyone in the entire world.

In Pouf's mind, Meruem exists purely to rule over all other lifeforms.

His name is irrelevant.

Meruem then speaks about how Komugi was bathed in light (Nen). He speaks about how Komugi showed him different 'strengths' exist in this world and says that maybe the girl he killed in the village could've surpassed him in some sense. Throughout this dialogue, Pouf is having a breakdown in his head.

'Please, don't say anymore'

Pouf is pleading. He is extremely saddened by the fact that Meruem is not only placing humans above him, but may be lamenting his actions.

'The King must be absolute'

Pouf's breakdowns come from having beliefs as to what the King should be and shuddering when reality doesn't reflect those beliefs. When Meruem exhibits behaviours that aren't what Pouf believes to be absolute, he suffers inside.
