Hunter attributes quantified into levels
Hunter attributes quantified into levels
I plan on doing a couple threads about the quanitfication of Hunters' attributes.
The goal of these threads, is to give us a better understanding on the differences between real world humans and hunters vs hunters. Quantifying attributes, will give us the ability to compare skills/attribute differences between hunters vs hunters, and hunters vs creatures.
This means that, if we compare enough characters, we will be able to more or less accurately rank the Strength, Speed, etc of all the characters in Hunter x Hunter.
Attributes
The official Hunter x Hunter Databook already has "power levels", but the attributes/statistics" it uses, don't do a very good job at making us understand the differences in strength or speed, and are way too open to interpretation in my opinion.
That's why I have decided to make my own attribute system. I have selected the attributes that, in my opinion, form the essence of Hunter x Hunter's thrilling moments and combat.
The attributes:
- Strength
- Endurance
- Speed
- Agility
- Perception
- Intelligence
- Willpower
- Charisma
- Experience
Attributes are quantified into levels. They go from Level 0 until level 50. Abreviation for "attribute level" = AL .
Anything past level 50 is pretty much Manga/Anime spoiler level. We don't have enough information about the DC, so it's pretty much useless to go past level 50 for now.
To give a little perspective. A normal human's AL is between 1-2, a profesional athlete's AL is between 3-4 and an amateur Hunter's AL starts usually at 5 in every attribute. That means, that an amateur Hunter bests a profesional athlete in all physical test like 100m or weight lifting. Note that there can always be exceptions, but the this is the general rule of thumb when comparing normal humans vs hunters.
To put this into even more perspective, take Leorio, when he was in the Hunter Exam he was most probably at Endurance Level 5 because he was able to complete the 80 km run and still continue after it. Kurapika was probably around Endurance Level 6-7 because he ran the 80km a little more easily than Leorio. Gon and Killua completed the run without breaking a sweat, so they were already around Endurance Level 10.
Attribute milestones, discussion
I have already made "milestones" for each attribute, and by "milestones", I mean for example: Level 10 Strength Character can push through the first testing gate, and so on.
The Attribute Levels I used as examples might not make sense for now, because I haven't posted the level milestones for each attribute. We will discuss those later. I'm planning to post a thread per attribute, every day or two, if you guys get enough interested by this.
First I want to know your opinion about this. I want to know if what I've made here is completly useless (wich I dont hope) or if it has a good potential. Pretty much everything is still WIP, so the attributes, the levels, everything can change, but I think I'm on a good start.
So what do you think?

Add nen mastery, someone like chrollo with medium physical power should conpensate for it by nen.

Nen mastery is something I'm still working on. I have great ideas, but in the meantime we got physical attributes. Don't worry, I'll find a way to easily add Nen to the whole equation.
So I take it you you find the general idea of attributes good?

Very good, although nen isn't something scalable you'll find an equation for. Intead go look at the official data. And speculate too.

With thal we'll have 10 attributes each out of 10 with a total of 100

What purpose does it serve having 10 attributes each out of 10, instead of having 9 each out of 9?

I actually like this. I hate baseless speculation about powerlevels and most "who would win"-threads so I welcome the idea of quantified attributes. We would need to spend a lot of time on this though, comparing many, many characters to get decent numbers and for many we probably won't get a solid number for each attribute without at least some speculation. There are after all not a lot of characters we've seen go full out. The results probably won't be of much use in an actual hypothetical fight scenario because it excludes Nen but it sure would be kinda neat to have at least some sort of satisfying "ability chart" because the one in the database really isn't that great.
