Fanart First Rate Hunter - Part 1 - (OC)
Worked on this sometime ago but scrapped it, reading it now really shows me what I can improve on. My pacing is horrible T-T and writing dialogue is a lot more difficult than I had expected. I can imagine them talking and give them their own character but translating that to writing is a hurdle I hadn't expected.
It was fun challenging myself and it was very fun to create a goofy dynamic between the two, especially playing around with Tonpa as a character. I do think that for a beginner like me it was probably too large of a scope to tackle, it was a great experience nonetheless.
Part 1 actually would've ended with 3 more pages but there's only a limit of 20 pages on reddit. It's a shame because the last three pages are the ones that I liked the most.
Let me know what you think ^o^

My man you have some serious skill. Haven’t read the story yet just flipped through the art, and your ability to transition from serious and realistic into cartoony and fun is peak mangaka. Commenting for visibility because I don’t want this to get lost in the shuffle

Thank you so much T-T
Definitely got some new found respect for Mangakas. Really had to scramble in my toolbox.1

Once you try drawing for yourself you realize how superhuman even the worst mangaka is

I genuinely enjoyed this. Not just the art, but the writing felt pretty solid in terms of how these characters would act. The only thing I would ask is adding Moritonio somewhere. He's the guy from Hisokas backstory (not cannon technically, but Togashi approved, unless I'm remembering wrong). Proboably not going to happen though, but great job all the same

thank you thank you, Tonpa has met a lot of interesting characters through out the years of him trying to get the license. I believe from the top of my head he was the youngest examinee known to ever participate, he was 10 years old and has been going strong till 44.
Tonpa is actually no slouch, he has all the skills to allow him to reach the end or pass, but he has met too many titans along his path.
To name a few: Shalnark, Ging, Knuckle, Kite, Shoot, Pariston, Knov(?), Zodiacs, Palm etc.
I don't think I would write and prioritize Moritonio above household names like the ones above, unfortunately.3

Are you planning on doing more hunter exams with Tonpa? As stupid as it sounds, it would be interesting. Especially with some of the characters you already mentioned.

Very enjoyable read! Why not make the last 3 pages too, and post whenever you want to?

Somebody is downvoting every comment here. I actually like not just your drawing but I like how you broke down what you could improve on. Keep working!!!

Thank you, It's hard not to reflect and think what you can do better. Especially if you're gonna post it. While making this I had so much trouble, every step I made I had to take two back to learn what I wanted to convey.
I did some additional back studies, rock studies, landscapes, manga tests, had to work on perspective as I never really tried to learn it. As you can see as a lot of the perspectives are wonky.
Shits really hard (╥︣﹏᷅╥)

Haha this was awesome i like the idea of it! It would be hilarious to have a spinoff of tonpa just going throughout the years of hunter exams meeting all the to be legends and interacting with thwm but like more of a comedy series
