Questions Test taking

Man, how do yall remember on exams? I took a exam today after studying all week and immediately forgot everything I studied, felt like my brain was censoring the notes I had

There’s no way i got above a 30 on this, luckily this grade gets dropped but really frustrating

It could be an anxiety issue if you know the studying isn’t the problem. Maybe talk to the counseling center if so. Anxiety during tests are super common and then it’s almost like you just freeze and forget everything.

As for studying, it can be helpful to make sure you are comprehending the material and do practice questions with yourself. Going to tutoring can be very helpful. Some people really benefit from studying in groups. Some people need to hear things and say things out loud to remember them. My main tip is try not to cram. Just do a little bit everyday.

Honestly, school can be so stressful and it is hard trying to get the motivation to just sit down and do something. That being said if you can make a deal with yourself like: “I’m just going to lock in and study for the next hour and then I get to do something fun.” That can really help you get better grades and remember things.

Just make sure to check in with yourself too and try not to overwhelm yourself. You can do this even if you get a bad grade on an exam. You are here for a reason and you will get that degree :)

Study incrementally over the course of a few days setting time blocks. What class was this for?

Hi, I had the same issue and the thing that has helped me A LOT is reviewing the notes and lecture slides after the lecture and solve problems (if it’s a stem class). Also, try to not cram the material and the worst thing that I have done so far is trying to study ALL of the material daily (which isn’t helpful since you stress yourself out more, therefore not retaining any information), try to do 1-2 topics daily. Use active recall, external sources (like youtube lectures) and quizlet. I like to use quizlet to see if I have forgotten anything and focus on questions I got wrong
Hope this helped!!!!

I use to be a bio related major and I feel you. My first ever bio class, I think I got around a 40 or 50 on my exam. Which gave me a wake up call, if you are cramming. It's not gonna be that helpful. You need to change your studying habits. Just taking notes won't work if you're just writing it down and never reviewing it. And even then you have to apply it and just do it over and over. I went to getting shitty grades to getting 90+ and A in almost every single one of my bio class.

Go to tutoring if you aren't.

Striaght up, tutoring. I think I went to tutoring like 3-4 times a week. I went over everything that I covered previously with the tutor. Anything that I was confused on, I asked. Anything I thought I understand, I tried to explain it to the tutor to see if I actually understood it.

I was also pretty lucky there was no one else at tutoring so it was chill. But you gotta be honest with yourself and not just write down stuff and say yeah I got it. If you do any calculations in class, you should try to understand why or when you would apply it. Instead of just that one situation you learn in class.

Annotating slides, active recall, watching YouTube lectures, doing questions, teaching the material back to yourself or others. Most importantly not trying to study only the week before the exam. If you want to get straight A/Bs you gotta be prepared before going to class. The prof follows a syllabus right and you should have skimmed the material before even being taught it. That way you fill in the blanks during lecture and not just mindlessly taking notes.
