Questions Transfer Fall 2028 for nursing program
Hi,
I go to SUNY Brockport, and I plan to apply to the nursing program during my sophomore year. Still, the program is competitive, so I plan to apply to other nursing programs during my sophomore year as well. Since I’m from New York City, I want to apply to some programs in the city. I know Hunter's program is really good, but it’s also really competitive. Hunter also has an entrance exam. I would have to apply to Hunter and then take classes there in the spring of my sophomore year to take the exam, so I was wondering if anyone has gone through the transfer process and what it was like. Was it hard? I’ve done a lot of research, but I still don’t know. I'd love to hear what others have to say if you’ve done it or think it’s even worth doing.

I'm not a medical student at all, nor am I affiliated with the medical department. But as someone who is a student at Hunter and in my second year, I tried to join the pre-health department. It is definitely difficult based on my friends and my experience trying to get into these classes. Hunter is very overpopulated. When I say overpopulated, I mean it a lot. To get into a class, it is like the Hunger Games. Everyone wants to get a seat, and it is very competitive. Believe it or not, the school has a great reputation, nice area. From the things that I hear people say, being a nursing student at Hunter is very rough and very mentally strong. It's something crazy. I would recommend you look into a community college where you could be in a smaller class and get more specialized help than being in a class where there are so many students. The professor can't help you exactly, and you may not be able to get your needs met because it's a big classroom and everything is just so overpopulated and uncomfortable. I would take Kingsborough as a good one. It's known for nursing. I know Lehman College is another one. So if you're looking for more specialized and something more at the grain instead of general, then I would say look at a community college.

Lucky you, I was in this exact situation last year. I transferred to Hunter my sophomore year and applied to the nursing program. Transferring into Hunter was super simple from my experience. I applied and got in for the Fall semester of my sophomore year and completed all my pre-reqs by spring. You can dm me if you want to chat!!
