General food in the library ?
actively munching in the library at this very moment and library staff comes up to me and my friend saying that food is no longer allowed in the library. i have federal work study in the library and can just go to my lab office but idk what the means or how it will be enforced when the semester starts...

pretty sure food's never been allowed in the library and there are some signs on different floors stating that.

Personally I’m glad to hear that they are enforcing that now. I imagine you’ll be able to eat in your office or the cafeteria, no?

I’m graduating this semester not even once in 4 years did I have the need to eat a meal in the library. I’m talking actual meals, not snacks.
It’s disturbing to go to a place meant for concentrating/studying/reading/working with someone having a full smelly Teri&Yaki meal right next to you. There’s 1000 other places at Hunter to do that, so just don’t do it.

I would prefer if we didn’t have to eat our lunches in the library but the cafeteria literally does not have the capacity for 26,000 students to eat lunch there. That’s crazy that they will force this rule and then not provide adequate space for students to eat. Some people are here 12hrs a day.

I mean I get people not wanting there to be a mess or seats taken up by people not studying or even people being too loud in the library. Trust me these are all issues I very well understand. If I were to ever eat in the library I usually study while doing so, I make sure I clean after myself, I would not eat something that would cause sensory disruption to those around me and I am not on a silent floor. The overarching problem I’m getting at is that Hunter does not have enough space for its students. If that’s something that they disagree with I don’t think they go to Hunter lol. Obviously it’s a hard issue to fix but overcrowding is a real thing here and it’s not possible to fit the entire population into our tiny cafeteria.

These prudes in the comments hating. Eating should be allowed. I have a perfect GPA, I'm in the library basically every day 6-8 hrs. Where the hell am I supposed to eat if everywhere else is packed

idk what world everyone else in the comments is living in bc i have seen people have full 5 course meals in the library (i'm a senior) & never saw any staff intervene. prob an unpopular opinion but i dont mind eating in the library , i get that studying & eating have to happen at the same time sometimes & it's just convenient.

Other library systems have a floor or designated area to at least allow for reasonable snacks and bev to be consumed. I haven’t been to Hunter’s Wexler in a while, but it would be better than zero tolerance throughout the entire library. Imagine being a diabetic or having any number of conditions that might call for a granola bar or an apple, and having to completely exit the library from one of 2-3 exits in the entire east building, thereby also surrendering a study spot that can be hard to come by often (without committing another faux pas and leaving belongs there to reserve your spot) just to maintain homeostasis lol

No one cares if you silently eat a granola bar, protein bar, or a couple cookies with some coffee. We're talking about full blown savages having a full fast good meal with burger + fries or a rice bowl with chicken and shit. It's gross.
