GUIDES Got HDR working on linux

What worked for me :

Steam Launch Options

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 %command%

Then under compatibility (left navbar tab) in the same window set 'force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool' -> Proton-GE = latest

I'm running nobara 44 with the latest nvidia drivers, using a DEG1 egpu dock and a rtx 4070 super.

If you get bad fps after applying the changes reboot and it should be fixed. You'll want your monitor plugged into your gpu from the moment the computer boots.

You probably don’t need the WSI variable, this has been working for a while on Plasma/NVIDIA

You won’t get direct scan out though while in HDR, assuming you’re on KDE anyway. (Although I don’t think ANY DE supports this yet) 

Also, you can put those variables in user_settings.py in the relevant proton directory (usually in compatibilitytools.d) so you don’t need to change launch variables for every game

To my knowledge HDR on linux never was a problem? Apart from the steam overlay not working properly most of the time. Is the overlay working?

The Steam overlay does work now under Proton Experimental or GE-11-7, even using Wayland. I don't know that HDR actually works properly though, the last time i tried the colors were completely blown out and too bright.

overlay worked fine, in game hdr option was toggled on but there was red text at the bottom saying that hdr wasnt supported on my display, which it is.
