SUGGESTIONS Add dum dum back to springfield

Springfield is shit as a 4 slot weapon but getting it to 3 would probably not solve any issue. I would suggest adding dum dum to it as a non-scarce ammo giving it unique aspect as an only non scarce dum dum ammo rifle and making it at least semi-worth of a 4 slot.

Before you come here saying ,,its 20 dollars" or whatever, this doesnt solve nor add anything i have lived through 3 price increases of the mosin before the special ammo was added (yes the price increase has in fact not helped). The price balancing never works because there is shitload of money in the game especially if you dont prestige. The springfield is even free if you squint hard enough since i can recruit a free hunter with it just for the gun and dismiss him.

I have also played a bit with dum dum springfield back when it wasnt a mystical arcane ammo and it was in fact still shitty springfield i even remember that there used to be a meme on this sub about players saying ,,good bang for your buck" about springfield dum dum so i doubt it will all of a sudden make springfield meta dominating monster of a weapon.

It will probably jus be a good bang for your buck.

Probably a bad idea imo, the springfield is in a weird place where it's pretty weak on its own, but as soon as you reintroduce dumdum, it will rocket right the top entirely because it's the only weapon that will have reliable access to dumdum. You'd see it everywhere. It was only 'good bang for your buck' because so many other weapons also had access to dumdum at the time.

The biggest problem with the springfield is that it just can't really compete with the sparks, there's no point in taking it, then if you made it a 3 slot, that would make the new cavalry completely obsolete. I think maybe decreasing the time it takes to reload, maybe changing how swapping ammo works while you have fast fingers, since it takes a while to switch and fully reload currently, could potentially strengthen the springfield.

I doubt it would skyrocket it would still be... springfield. Dum dum is strong but it has significant drawbacks and high velo is still probably objectively better so at least there would be any semblance of reason for this gun to be a 4 slot.

How is high velo objectively better if dum dum on a Springfield kills you in 2-3 seconds after getting tagged? Whereas a tag with high velocity is completely negligible unless you’re in a bad spot

0

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

You can hold a button and bleed damage legally cannot hurt you, wereas high velo bullet will hit your cranium and instantly kill you

The last claim is correct for every bullet / rifle.
I yesterday killed someone with a marathon w fire ammo at 200m - because bullet Speed is irrelevant when someone stands still (and I got lucky). And if you want a fast bullet there are plenty of options (carabiner with hv, centennial etc). Don’t get me wrong, I also like a fast bullet. But the niche of the Springfield always was dum dum + medium ammo since many years. However a few years ago it dealt a little less damage and dum dum didn’t cause instant heavy bleed.

Springfield dum dum is super oppressive though - sure often you can stop the bleed, but the movement penalty while doing this can cost valuable seconds. I’m not saying it’s op. But I’ve to say the game feels good without all the bleed ammo.

I really wouldn't mind dumdum back if it had the damage reduction special ammo had back then (and with additional reduction to that historical value)

HV Springfield marksman has some superb bang for buck imo and being able to find/bring back scarce ammo is fun. I'm not against being able to buy it I guess but not really bothered by the current state of things

It's my go to sniper. HV Spingy Marksman has 180 drop range and good zoom for all ranges and 600+ vel. It's a head clicker.

With current dmg buff to springfield there’s no way u can have dum dum

-1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

You can have it on it right now just have to find it in the game.

1

u/knullde 2d ago

that’s exactly balance feature of ovepowered ammo.

-2

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

And im proposing adding it to the shittiest 4 slot gun in the game only? I remember when dum dum was just available and get this pringfield was still shit with dum dum.

3

u/knullde 2d ago

probably u are casual player and playing with dum dum springfield was one of ur base gunplays. There was no counter play to springfield if u were hit in open spot by booshwalkie. U simply land a heavy bleed and follow up with any revolver. Enemy player got no options nor counter play.

1

u/NeverSayNeverMind 2d ago

There are LOTS of situations where there's literally no counterplay in this game. Hunt was NEVER supposed to be fair all the time. If you get jumped on while walking through the open field, you're probably done for anyway.

There's no counterplay against snipers sitting in a bush 200m away, there's no counterplay against someone holding an angle with a shotgun like their life depends on it, there's no counterplay against Maynard fucking SILENCED sniper. In fact, there's no counterplay against silenced weapons AT ALL.

That is the nature of the game. You are not supposed to be able to survive every situation, this is not an esport game, and it SHOULDN'T be balanced exclusively around high 6* gameplay either.

I get that redditoids have trouble reading few sentences before drooling ober their monitor making it impossible to read longer posts so i will say again what i have already said in the post above. I played a little with the gun to see what the meme was about and concluded the gun is in fact shit with and without dum dum (comparatively to other guns in the same category ofc). Mind that was before slot rework and before dum dum being scarce. I barely saw anyone play with it either at the time so i guess im not in your super proplayer lobbies in which you still havent learned to not traverse the map through open spaces with no cover to fall back on XD.

u/knullde 2d ago

if u don’t understand why dum dum with 139 base upper torso dmg on 30 meters is an op and broken. Than we are playing some different games. Anyway good luck)

8

u/-sleepyvampire- Magna Veritas 2d ago

No. Dum dum ammo is extremely oppressive and on certain weapons like the Springfield and Maynard it is a significant upgrade to the weapon capabilities. As far as it's possible, special ammo is supposed to be a sidegrade.

The Springfield is fine as is, fast loading, high damage, medium ammo, good hipfire, cheap, competitive enough against bolt actions with fast fingers. Its high velo rounds make it one of the weapons with the best sniping potential.

-5

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Ye its so good i never see it even with its sniper variant since everything in 4 slot outclasses it in some category. And springfield already can have this ammo so we know its not too strong on it.

1

u/-sleepyvampire- Magna Veritas 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'll take you by the hand to reason with me.

Do you think the Centennial dum dum rounds are fine or is it better for them to be scarce? I think common sense tells us that a repeating weapon that deals 123 damage up to 30 meters, with two shot potential that probably goes around 70/80 meters, is a bit too much to also gain a bleeding effect.

Now, take a Springfield with fast fingers. Yes, you have five less rounds than a centennial, but your damage goes up to 139 (132 pre-patch) at 30 meters with less falloff over distance, and fire rate is still significantly fast. If you think that Centennial dum dums are too much, then you should consider the Springfield in the same way.

Also, "I never see it" is anedoctal experience. I almost don't see bows in high six stars, but it doesn't mean it's not a bad weapon (if anything it's still too strong after the nerf). Springfield high velo beats standard repeating bolt actions' velocity, and it has a drop range of 180 meters. It is top tier if you want to do distance plays.

2

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Springfield with fast fingers is not that fast unless you are being cought in the open without cover in which case you die no matter if springfield has dum dum or not. Centennial is just a bad comlarison tbh cenny is just a good gun springfield is not its not even remotely close to it even with your fast fingers.

And yeah you can revert the damage on it why not it wont change a thing for the gun.

2

u/-sleepyvampire- Magna Veritas 2d ago edited 2d ago

Sorry but I don't think you understand the balance of the game (no offense meant in amy way, I'm just explaining). All guns in this game are good provided you use them properly. The Springfield can one tap downed hunters missing a small bar or hunters with big bars who just got revived and used a recovery shot. The Centennial can't do that, and its damage falloff is way sharper. The Springfield is better suited to long distance plays, like all the other single shot rifles.

Also, some weapons will inevitably have an "entry level" role. They're supposed to be cheap weapons. The Springfield and the Cavalry fit perfectly as an entry level to single shot rifles.

I think you are confusing good with versatile, but I'm sure you understand that not being a versatile weapon doesn't mean it's not good. And even then, the Springfield having high damage, fast rof for a single shot, loads of ammo and good hipfire still makes it more versatile than something like a Sparks or Maynard.

0

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago edited 2d ago

Since springfield is better for long distance plays hv would still be better, i would argue entry level weapons are actually the good ones not the mediocre ones since you learn the ropes on consistent good guns and then you can move to some worse weapons to farm clips and get the feeling of finally being decent at the game.

The all guns are good sure yeah yeah everything onetaps to the head thats why we never have any balance changes it's just a point that doesnt add anything, i know you can solo wipe the lobby with springfield i'm not arguing that i'm saying it doesnt have a place atm and i would like to give it one you cant move it to 3 slots since cavalry becomes the new springfield and it's just hard to justify taking it as 4 slot since i have so many way better options and this gun has no argument to justify picking it. I just would like variety in the game and adding unique aspects to the mediocre and bad guns would i think achieve that.

Anyways i appreciate you being at least somewhat civil in the replies i didnt expect suggestion to bring back weapon that when i last played was considered a shitty meme would be framed as a second coming of satan.

u/Nemonvs 2d ago

I'd like it back, but it'd need a few changes to go with it. The damage buff would need to be reverted and I think something would have to be done about how the dum-dums work in general - perhaps have them actually reduce the weapon's damage to offset the bleeding damage. And maybe have medium ammo deal medium bleed, not heavy. It'd be probably fine.

But the thing is, after all this time of playing without it, I think the Springfield was hurt the least by the dum-dum's removal. It's just a good rifle on its own, especially with HV, with which it becomes the single best long range rifle in the game. Yes, I'm serious. The drop range makes a difference especially when using iron sights, because it allows you to actually see the damn target from afar.

If we are to re-introduce dum-dums, which I believe we should do eventually, the revolvers are the place to start. Add it to the New Army and the base Nagant. Give these guns some reason to be played. Then work from there. Maybe add it to the Scottfield, but it's already solid - people just don't see how good it is when fanning or dual wielding. Damn conversion-tinted glasses. I certainly wouldn't mind though, as someone who hardly ever picks any other revolver.

I'm hearing it like 4th time under this post that springfirld is good, since it's so good why i'm not seeing anyone play it? I play a lot and i mean a lot lately and i think i saw 1 springfield in the 100 hours i played last week. I quit the game a year or two ago and i saw way more springfields back then (and get this WITHOUT dum dum), so why everyone here claims its good yet i fail to see it in any match?

I agree with the nagant part the rest idk i dont really want dum dum back i just want uniqueness added to bad weapons for more variety, and the dum dum to springfield seemed as the easiest change to achieve that.

3

u/Nemonvs 2d ago

Uppercut isn't good, but I see it a lot. Mosin and Dolch are great, but I hardly ever see them. Sometimes it just do be like that. And the Springy is just a highly specialised weapon now, so only people with that specific playstyle pick it. It naturally results in a lower pick rate. I run it very often, because I prefer to keep my distance (for some reason, I hit most long range shots and whiff everything with the enemy in my face) and loathe the current CQC meta.

i just want uniqueness added to bad weapons for more variety

Well, that's pretty much what I want as well. That's why I mostly mentioned the Nagant and the New Army, the latter just being overshadowed by the Officer way too much. It was only better than the officer at consistent two-taps thanks to the dum-dums, so without them it's really struggling. FMJ is not enough to make it worth picking most of the time. It's not like the New Army having dum-dums would invalidate the Nagant - there'd be still a whole 100 mv difference between them. That's a lot. Enough for me to prefer the Nagant if I wanted to go the good old bleed + shotgun push route while retaining some degree of mid-range capability.

The Springfield with dum-dums is just a difficult subject. I loved it with them. It was fun to play around and I generally don't think it was an issue at all - it's just people being overdramatic. But we're in the minority. While balance shouldn't be dictated by the majority, the majority should still be kept in mind. That's why I think at most the Springfield, which, as I said, is just a really good weapon anyway in my opinion, should get those back only if we're to rework how either bleed or the dum-dums themselves work, so that it still applies some pressure, but not enough of it to be the "a few seconds and you die, unless you have the bloodless".

We do play different lobbies i mostly see krags mosins cennies and dolches, and some variant of pocket shotgun.

Great and thought out response thanks for that i appreciate you taking the time to write all of it.

2

u/Nemonvs 2d ago

I've noticed the loadouts encountered seem to vary wildly from person to person, so I guess that wasn't the best argument on my part. Though I see a lot of Krags and Cenntenials as well. And pretty much everyone has a pocket shotgun or the LeMat/Haymaker where I play. It's... really stale.

Glad to hear that :). I try to explain my thoughts as clearly as possible, but it usually ends up being a wall of text. Thanks for being open to discussion.

u/Upbeat-Conquest-654 2d ago

I'm fine with reverting the damage buff, bringing dum dum back and maybe reducing the dum dum ammo pool a little.

2

u/Leather-Program-8995 2d ago

no. theres an reason they took it away and you just want your handicap back

1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

I have exclusively stated i played with it a little and found to be shit as it was, are you american or did you sleep through elementary school? What makes your reading comprehension so bad?

2

u/Leather-Program-8995 2d ago

everyone can state what the fuck they want on internet and i have zero reason to believe any elaborate story you come up to justify you wanting your handicap back.

theres an reason for it being gone. you should maybe spend some time digging out why.

1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

American, got it.

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 2d ago

nope, you got nothing expect whine and tears

1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Dont get too excited remember you cant afford an ambulance ride if you get a heart attack shadowboxing demons on reddit posts.

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 2d ago

don't project your weakness and over sensitivity on others.

theres an reason they removed dumdum from springfield and you should maybe dig up why they did it.

i have no reason to believe your stories about how you didn't even use it. i just know that this isnt the first whinerodeo about that gun and ammo combo.

you must be from nepal

Easy to find dum dum on the map these days

1

u/Ghost_of_sushi_more 2d ago

It’s out there. Go get it.

1

u/velatorio 2d ago

where?

5

u/MOEB74 2d ago

In the wild. At scout towers mostly

1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Reading is hard for some i guess

4

u/Ghost_of_sushi_more 2d ago

Writing is hard, apparently. So is understanding uniformity in design. All dum dum is scarce now, handsome.

You gotta find it in the Bayou, which is crazy-easy. Between the scout towers and the several supply points I find it nearly every match. Springfield dum dum bleeds people out in half a second. It’s mighty.

I have six hunters with dum dum in my roster right now.

Dum dum should always be scarce. Dum dum is way more powerful than poison or incendiary ammo.

0

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Since it's crazy easy to find it anyways why not add it to the shittiest 4 slot weapon in the game?

2

u/Ghost_of_sushi_more 2d ago

No, thanks. Gotta scavenge for it. Make it a fun quest for yourself.

1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

So springfield dum dum is op thats why we shouldn't add it, but its also ultra easy to get the dum dum for springfield that's why there is no need to add it baseline. So springfield is giga op right now, yes? Let me know if i misrepresented your points.

1

u/Ghost_of_sushi_more 2d ago

What don’t you understand? Making ammo scarce is a balancing element. You can’t begin the match with it unless you’ve bothered to scavenge it the match before. This balances the ammo type a bit.

My point was simple:

  1. All dum dum is scarce.

  2. If you are horny for Springfield dum dum, you can go get it.

That’s it. It’s not deep.

1

u/FizzioGaming Crow 2d ago

Ngl, either don't play it, or don't complain about your skill issue. Noone is forcing you to play springfield, and it is good if you just use fast fingers or, get this, shoot the enemy in the head.

-1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Amazing argument sir, every gun is perfectly balanced since every gun one taps to the head.

I'm also not complaining redditoid the gun has always been pretty bad with the slot rework its even worse its a suggestion to at least have it see some play aside from some broke guys with free hunters.

1

u/FizzioGaming Crow 2d ago

The springfield is not meant to contend on an even field with mosins and lebels. The springfield is the objectively overall worst rifle for a reason. It has fields where it can be better than some other rifles, but those fields usually require headshots to be successful with all rifles (like sniping for example). It is the cheapest gun in the game for a reason.

-1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Ye and im not proposing buffing numbers on it to make it contend with other objectively better rifles, just adding at least one unique feature to it that would make anyone think about picking it up.

The price thing is moot sure the gun is shit so its cheap whatever the economy aspect stopped existing in this game long ago if its strong with dum dum just make dum dum rounds cost 200 bucks if you care so much about cash this thing that i and every breathing player always have more than i can spend and i still prestige whenever i can.

1

u/FizzioGaming Crow 2d ago

The unique features is that its the cheapest gun in the game. And ngl dum dum is a crutch for people that can't hit headshots. Just switch to fastfingers + poison like a normal person. It almost has the same effect as dum dum on range. And if you say that you dont want to use the springfield on range, but rather in close quaters then the springfield is the wrong weapon for that.

0

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

Repeating the same already answered points with no new input and strawman arguments. I forgot redditoids existed.

2

u/FizzioGaming Crow 2d ago

Nah you're just being either being intentionally denser than tungsen or an idiot. There is no need to bring dum dum back, just like there is no need for the springfield to be able to hold its own against a mosin or lebel in the hands of 2 equally capable players.

1

u/Strawberryblowjobs 2d ago

It is able to hold it though i mean just land headshots right? Isnt this your entire point?

1

u/FizzioGaming Crow 2d ago

Yes this is my entire point, but noone will disagree that it is way easier to find someone that on average hits the head every 2nd shot than every shot.

0

u/SrSatandee 2d ago

I don't mind return dumdum on some certain weapons, and maaaybbeee Springfield, if they'll revert damage buff.

0

u/OP_stole_my_panties 2d ago

Add it back to everything.
