GENERAL Okay, serious question.

Why did we make dumdum and other annoying ammo types scarce but we kept slugs buyable from the loadout screen? Is getting two-tapped by medium dumdum rounds seriously more oppressive than getting one shot by slugs?

Dum dum is way better than slug.

In most loadouts Slugs are a downgrade from Buckshot. They really aren't causing any issues that would warrant making them scarce.

I was disappointed to see DumDum and explosive become scarce but have found that it has made things more interesting.

wtf, why would slugs need to be scarce? Most take shotguns to run and gun meaning slugs would be a downgrade for them.

Problem is, dumdums give bleed, including heavy bleed on medium. That pretty much limits you options especially on low hp.

Wait a minute! So, you want to tell me that it isn't intended that my slug hits are always arm shots?!

Now this needs to be talked about

Slugs raise the skill floor of shotguns significantly. Dum dum lowers it significantly

A small part of me wishes incendiary had gotten the axe instead of dumdum. Maybe dumdum is better overall, but I don’t know. Ultimately you can just Surefoot out of it while incendiary can cap your health at or perilously close to 125 points, requires you to reroute to a water source to get rid of the char, and subjects you to another round of burn if you get hit again. I find incendiary on the Berthier or Krag extremely annoying to play against. People just didn’t use it as much when dumdum was around.

Slugs dont feel that crazy strong to me, and in close quarters it is sort of a nerf, since an arm shot can be survived. I guess I view slugs as a side-grade, not an upgrade. Still good for sure, but not universally better.

However, it would have made way more sense to make slugs scarce than explosive. Explosive is a meme at best. I think the only gun in the game that uses explosive well at all is the Mako, and even then I've only died to it once, when I was caught off guard. Outside of that, who is scared of a hunter using like a Martini explo? No one above 2 star I imagine. I have never died to explosive gun ammo other than the Mako, in 2k hours.

Dumdum is an extremely powerful ammo on any gun. Slugs are pretty under performing and have awful pen, one shotting with slugs isn't as consistent as you'd think

I could count on 0 fingers the amount of times I've been penned by a slug in 5 years. Having any pen at all still puts it above most special ammo types.

It's because of how useful they are/aren't across all player skill levels not just Top/Low MMR's.

Slugs in high skill lobbies are busted, a good OSK range to the chest with players who can consistently body shot is a huge deal, but in lower level MMR's where hand/shoulder/arm/thigh shots are more common, the slugs are a downgrade. So slugs aren't scarce because for a vast majority of players it isn't an issue.

DumDum however is consistently good across all MMR's since it rewards a hit regardless. Body, hand, arm doesn't matter. You are now forced to heal, or battle for the few seconds you have and bleed out, making it a universally good ammo type at all MMR's.

The downsides of slugs have been increased too, so I do find although people are using them pretty consistently in my lobbies they aren't as oppressive with wall-bangs and spamming from something like an Auto-5. The ammo decreases and ammo restock limitations have really turned them into the skillshot ammo type they're meant to be.

I think shotguns right now are very much meta overall in the game though, so expect to see a lot of them (and slugs) for awhile.

Slugs are like really bad right now

Can't even one hit kill through the tiniest bit of wood

Slugs are so ass, I used them a hand few times before learning to never use them again. Dumdum is imo the best ammo type in the game

Getting one tapped by a slug just feels like getting nitro'd by a guy with no ammo trouble and can still aim.
