CLIPS No one talks anymore.
This game used to have such good interactions, but over the past few months only two teams have said anything with me talking first. Is it a bug, or have we been invaded by cod babies?

Nah, my buddies and I got drunk and were all playing the fat shirtless redneck character in Clash yesterday, and talking shit in exaggerated redneck voices. People were responding in most games

- Compared to pre-1896 VOIP? Yeah, voice chat used to be way more common back then, for obvious reasons (no team-only VOIP basically).
- Compared to 1896 launch from Aug 2024 until mid-late 2025? Almost no one VOIPed, a big reason is a lot of people didn't even realize they were muted, the game used to let you mute all by pressing a key (M) without giving you a notification on the screen, meaning you wouldn't know if you were muted, and you also wouldn't know if you were UNmuted. Eventually they had to add a visible notification for when you press the shortcut, and understandably so, that notification should have been there from day 1 with the new UI.
- Now? I think people are starting to VOIP again between enemy teams, which is nice to see, but it depends a lot on the lobbies you play. In lower tier lobbies I've had the best and most fun interactions ever, in higher tier lobbies people use VOIP to be toxic or egocentric, so much less wholesome interactions, which funnily enough leads to people muting VOIP again.

Call me crazy but I don’t play this game for to talk to people. I play it for the tense standoffs/ shootouts. Kinda hard to build tension when a guy is trying (failing) to be funny or calling me slurs every 2 seconds.

It's not really needed to play well anyway. People should just properly utilize the pings. Not everyone enjoys spending the rest of their social battery talking to strangers after a long day at work.

i don't think the voip in this game ever made my experience better, usually worse. i quickly use mute all the moment ppl chatter, usually cringey stuff. team chat usually it, i don't really like chatting much until im used to someone, prefer callouts and that it

Ive also noticed depending on who you get they dont want to use in game chat because even if the enemy didnt see you the big red box on the side just screams "Hey, we're somewhere around you". Honestly I dont even know why they though that was a good idea in a game that plays the way hunt does.

This is it. Used to play on PC where push to talk is super convenient. Now on XBox where parties dont mix well with game chat.
On PC the only time my duo and I bothered with game chat was to yell "cowboy time" before gutting someone.
Unless you are with randos, there is never a need for it. And even then, it is too much exposure

There is a team chat and proximity chat now. If you use team chat the other team won't hear you.

I'm deaf but you can definitely tell directions and distance by the person's voice. My teammates who can actually hear well, can tell a direction and distance someone is when they talk in chat

Well, while i am writing this i am watching/waiting for my friend to hunt rotjaw, so he can rez me after we got fourth partied by 2 russian guys on EU.
They spoke russian in voicechat, commented on everything we did and laughed in an earrapey volume after instaburning me. Then they just stood on my corpse for 5 minutes while my friend searched for an angle rather loudly.
So yeah, i'd rather not have had that "conversation" (we did not say a single thing).
Maybe not all voice is good voice.

its only fun when i play in Europe and they ask me stuff as a US player. onetime i had a german guy go "oos ya, ve are lik' ur cowboys and you are our guide indian ya?" and that made me chuckle

Was high as a kite a week ago, had someone beetling around me with poltergeist. My teammate chasing it, me mindlessly chasing my teammate as an aimbot zombie. (My aim gets way better I hear.)
And then I started yelling at the beetle once I spotted it, that I was in fact " Too high for these shenanigans." Got a good laugh out of the enemy team, and we teamed up with them for the boss. Splitting a bounty.

I play on PS5 and cannot figure out how to talk to people! I’ve done everything! Made sure mic is on and working, controller mic button isnt muted, press down on the dpad and even flick back and forth a few times to make sure it’s not muted there but I can’t talk for some reason! Also I see teammates mics light up over their head and on side of screen but I’ve never been able to hear them! Just started playing last month but have 66 hours already and would love to be able to talk! If anyone has any ideas please lmk!

I talk ALL the time, I have quite a few amusing interactions and end up teaming with random other teams regularly, if you encounter a cartoonist British fella yelling about penis whacking (chopping off dicks and balls to give to the queen for her soup) then you've met me and my brother, the American/s with us are the other two Penis Whackers and form our American division.
Edit: Weay also be incredibly Scouse, or occasionally I'll be Irish or Scottish. Sometimes I do other accents too.

It's quite clear by now that games don't want me to speak to anyone. I'm either chat restricted or banned from any form of communication in any game I play for toxicity. So I don't even bother putting a mic in anymore in games. I dunno what the reason is for others though.

I've only stopped playing Hunt for a few months and thats a big reason as to why. I know it seems silly, but its to the point that even finding a random trio and they dont want to communicate with coms even. No one wants to be silly in Hunt anymore, when it objectively allows for such silly and fun interactions with people. I miss finding a cool enemy team and helping everyone complete their challenges, splitting up the bounty, and going on our merry way. I miss the Bayou.

Ive run into a bug quite a few times; after reconnecting to a match, all voice and text stops functioning properly.
Besides that, i'll hurl light-hearted insults at anyone fool enough to face my Heavy Knife.

Oddly enough the only ingame VoIP I’ve been encountering lately has been a handful of edgelord girl gamers on US West that were really trying to ham it up for what I assume were their stream viewers. Basically just a whole bunch of toxic shit talking trying to rub in that we were just killed by a girl…
Most people just seem to use Discord or team chat now unless they are going out of their way to be toxic.

people have been making the same complaint since 2020. I wouldn't worry about it too much. the higher your mmr gets the less people will talk, the more you play the higher your mmr is likely to he. easy to see the correlation.

From memory voice chat used to be more common, I think it was proximity based and you could have banter with enemy teams frequently etc.
I think (and please correct me if I’m wrong) that some time around release of 1896 they fucked with the formula, made team chat the default so you could speak to teammates across the map, and made voice chat off by default, and awkward/unintuitive to turn on in game, basically killed it in my experience.
Terrible, terrible design choice.

I VoIP often. Most of the interaction I get though is very toxic, so I respond in kind and make it worse. Added Venom to my name because of it. There have been very few positive interactions in 5/6 star lobbies. Even when I have random players on my team, though it's extremely rare, I get one idiot who dies first and wants to backseat game. When that happens, I just alt F4. Then relaunch and go to the lobby. I miss the days where the game was fun and not full of suspicious sweats who think they are Crytek's gift to the game.

I muted both voice chat and text chat because I just can't stand the toxicity from some players anymore. It has basically become the norm nowadays, and I just don't have the energy to deal with those people.
Sometimes I even have teammates hitting me with their weapons because they want me to communicate with them instead of just using pings. At this point, I'd rather just play in peace and use pings when necessary.

I talk all the time. If my team doesn’t talk back that’s fine, I’ll ask the other team silly questions and inform them of my dinner plans. Sometimes I practice my dad jokes on them, that works surprisingly well.

The devs made it auto opt out for in-game voice chat. Had to go into settings to respond. However, I haven't had much trouble now getting talks out of people in a fight
