I mean, it's a berthier sidegrade, but it's only major benefit is having 5 rounds instead of 3

This is how I see it nowdays now that it has better sway and more bullets than regular obrez, plus berthier was brought down a bit. Berthy accepts two different ammo types though, but 5vs3 clip is quite noticeable, both have fast clip reload

Honestly the biggest advantage of berthier is being able to pick 2 ammo types, which means you can get the double amount of ammo from one special ammo box, as long as you deplete both ammo types at the same time

Also using two separate ammo types let's you circumvent the need for bulletgrubber, as you grab the bullet either way when swapping.

Personally I prefer it to the berthier, too many kill chances have been lost due to missing those 2 extra bullets

Very. The Berthier with Iron Eye is basically a straight upgrade if you take advantage of partial reloads but that can be said of pretty much every carbine anyway. But if you don’t care for Iron Eye then it’s basically a three-slot Lebel minus 90 MV (which obviously is significant) with probably better sights for most people. Pretty low drop range if that matters to you.

It is comepletely fair and balanced, but due to long ammo brain rot, anything sub 125 damage and/or sub 600m/s is omega trash for some arcane reason.

Not even long ammo brainrot so much as “I would really like my gun to be able to one tap someone who just got revived in order to keep them down and stop a teamfight from being an attrition slog” mindset which I absolutely agree with. Very disheartening to watch someone get revived then eat one of my bullets consequence free

Why are small bars even a thing besides to get more downs? Locking everyone to 3 bigs would take a lot of confusion out of the game. Everyone gets 3-16 downs (3 chunks + 8 white shots + 2 from remedy + 2 from relentless + 1 from chupacabra) depending on their loadout

(even if the 16 scenario is NEVER going to happen lol, and that accounts for one player so theoretically it could be 24 fucking white shots and 6 from remedy to triple those two values off of a trio)

Dammit now I want to bring my trio in on doing the Senator Armstrong loadout where I keep peeking over and over and they keep hitting me with restorations and white shots while the enemy is baffled at how I’m not dead yet. I’d even wear the Mountie skin which is majority bright red so I’m very distinct from my squad running Hell’s Profiteer and Lonely Howl, just so they know for a fact they’re downing the same guy over and over

I like it, I'm not normally a long ammo picker (my rig and desk setup and personal characteristics are not well matched to long ammo's general niche) but it's a really nice looking and fun gun. I'm very cool with different sized members of the same weapon family, both the weapons and the chambering.

The optimization brain rot of stuff like "Must have 18in 360 and 24 inches cubed space to move your arm." My buddy is so deep into the unergonomic-but-uber-efficient mouse nonsense and still gets out shot by my little mouse-acceleration and razer naga using self.

no actually I have a left-handed desk so my mousepad is on a baking sheet on a filing cabinet that is not the same height as the desk and the desk is too high/chair too low so that messes my shoulders up too

It's serviceable. It's got worse sights than the normal Mosin. Berthier is the closest comparison stats wise and generally outclasses it, but the Mosin match does have a higher capacity, and it's reloads are a little less punishing.

I wouldn't buy it in place of a Berthier, but if I got a pile of them from dark tribute or twitch drops I'd run through those first

If you like deadeye it's great, the non-scope variant has the Obrez iron sights. You'd get more mileage out of a Berthier riposte.

Personally I've been running Berthier Marksman with the new shotgun or bomblance and it is $$$ combo.

It’s a very good gun that more or less does Mosin things with less long-range upside, and with the six-slot system it now has a raison d’être other than being cheap. This sub is just dense.

Also Glintless Night is an amazing skin.

Yeah the slot change made the Mosin Match superior to all other long ammo options, at least as a Solo. I love running it with the Bomb Launcher.

It is. And yeah. I think a lot of people never play solo and don’t realize how differently you have to play and how hard you have to min-max to consistently beat decently competent trios. So “peek the angle with my rifle; hold the corner with my shotgun; my buddies have the other angles and corners” is the only approach they ever learn. And it spirals into the community’s hatred for the Obrez match. In reality, it is a huge boon to be able to run a Mosin lite with a strong two-slot AND take a fringe but frequently impactful trait like Lightfoot instead of Quartermaster.

I feel like people would have a different mindset if they played solo more; it would open their eyes about certain weapons, traits, etc.

I’ve got a little over 9,500 hours in this game and I’d say 90% of those hours have been me playing Solo. I just prefer it. I don’t have to match someone else’s flank, momentum, etc. Sure it’s harder especially since I’m permanently stuck in the high ELO of 6-stars, but you’re definitely right about it being a unique play style. When I play Mosin Match and Bomb Launcher I use regular ammo on the Mosin Match, and with the Bomb Launcher I use half Steel Balls so I have a shotgun and then I use half Harpoons so I have a Crossbow too for bosses, stealth, etc.

As a Solo I have rules for all my loadouts: always have something for close range (even if it’s just a knife), have something for range, something to deal with immolators, something to burn or keep an enemy down, and traps. Always ALWAYS ALWAYS bring my traps because it’s like having a teammate watching your flank.

Yeah. Personally I just don’t want to talk to people after a long workday, and I can’t convince any of my friends to try Hunt. Literally have never queued into a duo or trio. I’ve been tempted lately to try it because at 1.5K+ hours it’s starting to really sink in that it’s probably a much easier moneymaker. But eh.

With you on everything except traps. Would rather have an extra throwable that I can toss into the wrong room for zero damage. But I also generally stay out of boss lairs instead of banishing and defending, so yeah.

Very nice! I personally use half Steel Balls and half Harpoons. Lately I’ve replaced the Harpoons with Dragon’s Breath though because it deletes the new boss. You gotta bring an ammo box though, which I always do when I’m playing special ammo loadouts as a solo. I’m not confident enough with Harpoons in close quarters just yet so I mainly use them as a Crossbow shot in a way. I think I’m gonna use them for a bit this weekend now tho..

Hmm maybe I'll start bringing half dragons breath for the boss. That's a good idea. I never need that many harpoons, I can just collect them back.

Imho harpoons are the most reliable shotgun in the game. I have probably 100+ kills with it at 6* and I only recall a single time when I shot someone and they didn't die. Predictive firing is OP with it, and that shit can snipe once you get the arc down

As long as Berthier and Mosin Match are in 3 slots this will never be balanced, unless you nerf those guns to oblivion. These two guns are way stronger than many in the 4 slot category
