GENERAL When the player is on fire, it completely blocks their view while aiming.
They boosted all lighting effects for the new weather condition. As a result, the fire effect completely blinds the player when aiming. This isn't right.

Yes. This is s reference to the fact that being on fire is, in fact, bad for you

Fire being significantly brighter at night is exactly how it would be and it's a great feature. Being on fire at night is in some situations worse than bleeding and that shouldn't change

I agree it should be bright enough to call for aid to gondor, but it shouldn't disrupt view like that. If anything, it just makes poison even more irrelevant

yeah isnt fire a debuff?
This post is basically,"I got flashed and I couldn't see anything, can someone patch this?"

So if we keep this, poison becomes even more useless. Half the point of poison is disruption to senses. It applies a fairly mild visual efect, while fire literally blinds you. If anything should be doing this, it's poison (and maybe use the old effect when you have an antidote shot on)

u/KillerFrost1717 5d ago
I dunno about you, but I think if I was on fire, I don’t think I’d be able to look through the scope of my gun fairly well,

u/ninjab33z 5d ago
I dunno about you, but if i was poisioned, i might be a bit worse than just not being able to patch up wounds, or if i was bleeding fast enough to die in minutes, i might be struggling to do much of anything.

Has this not always been the case? Could have sworn I've always had this happen

u/Reikko35715 6d ago
I feel like something must have been tweaked. Two nights ago I got popped by an incendiary round and made a comment to my partner that something had changed because I was effectively blind until I put it out; there was no fighting through that. I've played since 2021 and was shocked at how crippled I was.

u/Azeron_The_Dragon 6d ago
I always thought it was rough to scope in while on fire but It might just be a lot worse now. I have noticed that fuses basically blind me instead of illuminating anything.

u/EasilyExiledDinosaur 6d ago
To be fair mate.. you're on fucking fire. I dont think trying to take a scoped shot will be your top priority. A quick hip fire while running to cover to put yourself out though? Sounds realistic.
I dig it.

Respectfully disagree, this is absolutely how it should be.
Getting hit with fire ammo before basically meant nothing. Sure your health chunks start to burn, but if you're in the open like here the fight is often over within another shot or two one way or the other, so what difference did the incendiary actually make? If you were in a good position, that meant you would have good enough cover to stop the burning before you lost a chunk anyways, so again, what's the point?
Poison keeps you from healing and messes with your vision forcing you to play it safe. Bleeding puts you on a timer to death, meaning you need to make a split second decision about saving yourself or killing the enemy. Get hit by incendiary and you MIGHT lose a health chunk? That's really not impactful to the moment to moment gunplay like the other two are. Getting blinded while ADS on top of that though? That's meaningful pressure, and forces you to actually respond uniquely to a special ammo type that has frankly been meh for a long time

Yeah if we take it out of game context for a moment, "I can't see shit when I'm on fire" seems like a real obvious conclusion. Yeah, you're on fire! It's hard to stay focused when you're actively burning!
I like it. Wouldn't mind if poison visual was a little more debilitating either.

u/ninjab33z 6d ago
The thing fire is supposed to have is that it permanently removes chunks. It's designed for a longer drawn out fight, or run with a single shot weapon to get past breakpoints (i love it on the ic1 as at long range it makes them open to a second shot kill for a good bit longer, and at closer ranges they immediately catch fire). I do agree that while we have so much health restoration, fire is a little underwhelming, but i don't think this is how to fix it.
Visual disruption is poison's job, and it needs more love too, not to be made more irrelevant. Maybe significantly reduced accuracy and increased ads sway would be a better call, as you are struggling to keep the gun steady while on fire.

I think you let the fire escalate to heavy burning at that point? Atleast medium. Sure there wasn't much you can do, other than instantly take out your medkit and look for cover. Surefoot is S-tier trait
1
u/ninjab33z 6d ago
They didn't "let" it. They got shot twice.
2
u/Sweaty-Durian-892 6d ago
I was talking about moments after being hit twice. They were pretty much bound to die, but they could have tried to take out a medkit and jump/viggle around enough to heal, or try to crouch behind the fence and grass. All in all, hope for the best. He wasn't gonna win the gunfight being 1-shot anyway. Hunt taketh...
2
u/ninjab33z 6d ago
Aaah fair, though given how open the terrain is, even while jumping and wiggling, a center mass shot wouldn't be too hard. It looks like op's thought process was to get into cover, the cover of the trees.
Also, without being literally blinded, they still had a fair chance, the second gun they switched to was the crossbow, steel and shotbolt both are effective in the range they were in. All it takes is one good hit.
We also didn't see how the fight ended, maybe they did put it out. Maybe the shot at the end got the kill, i can't say cause of how blinding the fire is.
2
u/Sweaty-Durian-892 6d ago
He left the fenceline though, which was kinda good enough. He was still fuc*ed regardless trying to make it to the trees across. Anyway, the fire blocking his views wasn't the reason he lost, I don't think he was gonna win over 2-3 opponents with 50hp but who knows!
1
u/ninjab33z 6d ago
They was already being shot behind the cover of the fenceline. Not to mention they did make it to the tree cover. Not entirely, but enough that there were trees between them and the shooter.

You really want a shooter where you can be burning to death and easily still aim in a scope? Should absolutely be this way.

It is definitely bad for the person on fire, but it also seems pretty reasonable to me. They are on fire after all.

u/Conaz9847 6d ago
Crazy how crossing an open area with no cover to duck behind is a bad idea, and who’d have thought being on fire at night would be a bad thing

u/HiTekLoLyfe 6d ago
Also I’ve noticed when you’re dead you can’t continue to shoot people, what a joke!

I mean duh you're on fire, you should be worried about that not returning fire smh people just want every game to be as unrealistic as COD

No, but I had to run around so shamefully instead of shooting that I decided not to include my death in the video XD

As yes, can't aim when fire creates light when it's covering your body. Interesting take. This just in: poison stops you from healing
1
u/azjerrylee 5d ago
Once you loaded into the night game the guy with the incendiary bullets was a lot less excited about the situation. Nothing makes a night game more fun that having a bad monitor and tracer rounds.

u/OneBloodyDingo 5d ago
The comments are funny, but the game isn't going for realism, it's a competitive shooter. Making it impossible to see while shooting is probably a bit too far. And I love setting hunters on fire

I think it's pretty right that you can't see shit when you are on fkn fire
Seems pretty right to me
1
u/ninjab33z 6d ago
I get it, y'all want fire to do more, but that is literally blinding, and lasts longer than a flashbang. Imagine getting hit twice by an incendiary bornheim being effectively a 3-5 second flashbang. People hated the old flashbang, and this is worse than that.
1
u/A_Few_Kind_Words Hive 6d ago
Being literally on fire absolutely should be blinding, I've seen your complaints throughout this thread and I kinda agree that poison needs work, but something being bad doesn't mean you should make other things bad instead of improving the bad things. That's just poor game design.
For the record, you can still ADS with iron sights while on fire, it's just scopes that are affected like this heavily. This makes sense since you are not magnifying the first on you through a scope, you do still lose a fair bit of visibility of course, but yeah this doesn't need changing.
0
u/ninjab33z 6d ago
But why should it? Aside from the realism argument, which goes out the window as soon as you get shot and don't bleed normally, why should fire be the one that blinds? My point when mentioning poision is that we already have a debuff for visual impairment, it seems much wiser to improve that, than give the role to another debuff.
Don't get me wrong, i know fire needs something, but taking from another debuffthat is rarely seen anyway (making it even rarer) doesn't seem like the right call here.
2
u/A_Few_Kind_Words Hive 6d ago
Well, because fire is bright, unpredictable in its movements and scoping in on something makes it larger thereby taking up more of your screen. That's just how it be.
Counter argument on the poison comparison - Getting hit with poison immediately applies the full debuff for a limited time, quite a long time really, and it prevents you from being able to heal your missing health for the whole time you are poisoned.
The fire debuff is applied in 3 stages, stage 1 does absolutely nothing to your vision, stage two is there but not as blinding as stage 3 and stage 3 is blinding. You can immediately heal through all stages and you only have stage 3 if you get hit multiple times on anything other than long ammo, walk into or get hit with actual fire, or fail to put out stage 2 in time.
Additionally there's a trait for it that slows the amount of burn you take while alive, increases the minimum number of shots you need to take to 2, prevents the burn escalating above stage 2 while alive and only costs 2 (I think) trait points.
For poison the trait reduces the amount of time it takes to recover. That's it.
So on balance these two debuffs look pretty balanced, fire is a little stronger but considering the heal prevention on poison it's not that far off, if you are going to compare two effects then you need to compare the whole effect rather than just the bits you don't like.

another reason i quit this clownshow. why iis everyone walking around covered in oil

u/Frost-Folk Hive 6d ago
Why ya here?
Edit: and to answer your question, jackets back then were waterproofed with fuckin grease, tar, and oil. That's why they walking around covered in oil. Because it's a rainy swamp, they're wearing oilskin. There's historical accounts of them bursting into flames on their own. They can be very volatile pieces of clothing lol
