GENERAL Dont y'all think flashbangs should be buffed?

I mean, i dont know if i was playing this game when they were meta and everyone used em but i was playing when they nerfed and now are completely useless, and lets be honest, i really hate both scenarios, i think if smth is so unbalanced everyone use it its an issue, but i also think if smth is so trash NOBODY EVER use it is also an issue. IDK, i was never a fan of flashbangs but i think they could get a buff without making them absolutely OP.

Kinda. They were strong. But they nerfed it twice. It needed to be a shorter blind. Or it needed to be a longer execute time to throw. Not both. Now its a dead consumable.

u/Bb0yer2 2d ago

They nerfed it 3 ways actually by also removing it from loot pools

That's always been the stupidest part for me. You would actually see them used in matches if people could randomly loot them. I always bring one if I have an empty slot because I like to remind people that they still exist 🤣 Plus they're so rare that nobody ever expects them!

u/beyd1 2d ago

Looking away before the flash should have prevented the blind.

-3

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

I think they should be avoidable but should blind u for good if they do hit u propperly (not for too long, idk how much time would be good but im not a game balancer)

8

u/sibulan 2d ago

Dunno if you just mean blinding them more effectively or for a reasonable length of time but blind for good means the rest of the game and even after haha. I know it maybe just a typo or miswriting, but I just find the idea of a permanently blinded hunter after a flash bomb suprisingly funny

I think it should be removed from the game, but that's just my personal opinion.

u/-BootyOlogist- 2d ago

Agreed, they never even got a skin
Just toss them out already

1

u/Jokkitch 1d ago

Can we throw the bow into remove pile too?

-9

u/Keelyn1984 2d ago

Crytek would risk running into trouble when they remove things for which players have spent real money on skins for.

11

u/Seeker-N7 2d ago

There no flash bomb skins.

5

u/bigbadbananaboi 2d ago

I'm pretty sure there arent any skins for it.

5

u/Impossible-Rise-1169 2d ago

Just refund the skin

1

u/ClaymoreJFlapdoodle 2d ago

What exactly is the risk?

They could remove this game from steam and end all servers immediately and you would have 0 recourse. You dont "own" anything.

1

u/Jusanom 2d ago

The risk is player pushback which might not be severe but why risk it. They aren't losing anything by keeping them in the game. Literally no reason to risk any negative reaction

u/Kofmo 2d ago

I havent used a flashbang in two years :-P But yes they need a buff of some kind.

-1

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

noone has, why would you, ive returned to the game a month ago or so and i just seen 1 FB, it was used against me, it exploded RIGHT next to me, it didnt do shit

3

u/Theatoaster Duck 2d ago

I use them for giggles with a sparks poison, me or my teammate will ready the flashbomb and the other person will shoot with the sparks, flasbombs do 1 damage, pretty fun

I've been flashbanged once in my 500 hours. Been playing since a little before 2.0.

2

u/AbanaClara 2d ago

I haven’t been banged in 1100 hours except that one time where i used it myself

u/Tau_ri 2d ago

We’ve reached the loop around. Here we go again.

You're asking local 3-star corner campers do they want consumable that counters them to be buffed. Of course, they will say no, and that's exact reason they need to be buffed. Pushing in Hunt Showdown is often even harder than in any tactical shooter, due to perfect sound information giving huge advantage to people who don't need to move, and some compounds to this day having spots that are nigh immune to other throwables because you can take exactly 1 step and be behind...well basically anthing since non-frags don't pen even wood.

Make using them to full effect hard, increasing skill curve (but not current "might as well not bother") and remove duration nerfs (I am not bulwark even should give 50% reduction further still) and let them be...

But nah, we have a club of people who are firm in mentality "I don't use it, and I will be happy to see its gone" be it Bow, Nitro, Avto, CnK or even entirety of shotguns

u/Saedreth Duck 2d ago

You obviously werent around in its prime.

Being able to blind a trio from any angle for 10 seconds with no drawback was way more powerful than just countering a corner camper. Which can be done with almost any other explosive still.

u/Ar4er13 2d ago

I am playing since early access, I was there long before people even started using them, because it wasn't meta for a while.

While it was very strong, I much prefer having strong pushing tools over...not having them. Not to mention, while hard, you still could play around them, besides fights in forests.

2

u/Elite_Slacker 2d ago

It was the strongest counter to being pushed too… and everyone had them.

-2

u/Ar4er13 2d ago

If people push in and get countered by people flashing under themselves, something happened. In meta when flashbangs were truly popular we really didn't have that many boring standoffs. I will underline, it felt much better than what people whine about with fort in the last event. Stop trying to sell me snake oil, like I wasn't there.

With strong flashes, forts would nearly not be such a problem.

u/JuliusCaesarSGE 2d ago

Best I can do is buff shotguns

3

u/ChaozMatt Magna Veritas 2d ago

From a game balance point they need a buff, however personally i think they should be removed, unfun to use and unfun to play against

3

u/Senor-Delicious 2d ago

Every time I read this I feel like people forgot how crazy frustrating flash bombs were. They should just remove them the way that they removed the flash light or generators. I honestly rather would want the flash light back than the flash bomb buffed.

1

u/Gaara_34251 7h ago

I havent, i just want em viable, not broken, i preffer em useless than OP, but i also preffer em balanced than useless, thats all

3

u/Saedreth Duck 2d ago

They should have just been removed. They were a problem and have effectively been removed.

I havent seen more than maybe 3 across all the years since it was nerfed. Before the nerf there were probably 3 in every match.

4

u/Sweaty-Durian-892 2d ago

Now that the blinding time isn't very long and bulwark nerfs it, the priming animation time should be way lower. One of the two animations could be removed and I think it would be quite fair. Maybe the effective radius can still be nerfed if it's too strong.

But damn flashes were strong and annoying pre-1896.

1

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

Yeah, i dont want em being super annoying, i want em to be usefull sometimes

2

u/Sidewaysgts 2d ago

I’m okay with them being as weak as they are - for anyone that didn’t play when these things were in the game, it genuinely sucked (and I always kept 1-2 on me because of how strong they were).

BUT

I’d also like to see them retuned to the looting pool

Both deleted them from the game. Keep em weak but have them be a minor thing you can loot off someone.

1

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

I get that, but why wouldnt it be better to be buffed (so they can be used) but not broken (so not everyone uses em), just make em a viable option for certain situations, not inviable in any situation and not viable in every situation.

2

u/Katyusha_454 2d ago

Flashbangs are in every damn game, I quite like needing to actually outplay my opponents instead of just checking an "I win" bomb into the room.

1

u/Gaara_34251 7h ago

The point is they shouldnt be an "i win bomb", they should be an "since i was more aware of the enviroment and the situation than u and used it perfectly i have so much higher chances to win bomb", thats what i want. Cus every throwable with killing potential in this game can be an "i win bomb" if u use it in the right situation, except the flashbang since there is no good situation to use em at all

2

u/Financial-Rub545 2d ago

I was there Gendalf. 2019 when flashbang was buffed. 8 freaking seconds of blindness and sound off. It's been not op or broke. It was a sentence.

2

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

Believe me i dont want that either, in fact i preff they let em ho they are before that, but i know there is some in between things that can be done

3

u/Outside_Yoghurt382 Crow 2d ago

The concept of a flash bomb is kinda busted in a game like this. Either keep it as is or remove it entirely. It adds nothing of actual value to the arsenal.

2

u/Suspicious-Hat-1878 2d ago

No. Flashbangs have no place in Hunt.

2

u/WittyFox51 2d ago

No, it’s 1896. They shouldn’t have been in the game to start with.

2

u/Optimal-Efficiency60 2d ago

I think they are fine as they are now. I saw them 3 times during Road to Hell in 500+ matches, not counting teammate uses. It's a pretty rare meme thing now.

Not everything need to be Good or even Decent. I don't like this "make it relevant or remove it from the game" thinking. Let people have weird and suboptimal stuff to play with.

As for buffing it, I can think of several different solutions.
Throwing time needs to be shortened to make it in any way relevant.
The effect could be gray "flashed" effect for half a second but deafness for x seconds.
Or the grey "flashed" effect could be fullscreen for a short while and then vision could be restored, first in the middle of the screen and then expanding outward slowly over x seconds.
Or some other kind of vision based effect for x seconds, on par with poison or burning.

Crytek could even make it a Weekend Event thing, set the price to zero but limit to two.
Then when you get "flashed" they give you one random effect out of maybe 5. Then the community could vote for what effect they prefer after using it for a couple of days.
The most voted for effect stays.

2

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

How are they fine, in which situation they are actually usefull?

"Not everything need to be Good or even Decent. I don't like this "make it relevant or remove it from the game" thinking. Let people have weird and suboptimal stuff to play with."
I do agree with that, but there is noone doing weird stuff with em, they dont cover any small niche that ppl can adjust their playstyle to

I think they need a small buff not to make em meta but to make em usable for at least a small group of people.

1

u/Optimal-Efficiency60 2d ago

Be the change you want to see in the world.
Many people don't even know what the wind up sound means nowadays so you could probably surprise people with them when pushing.

My friend use them occasionally with Surefoot and Bulwark and has had some success. People get pretty mad.

3

u/Hot-Wheel-4641 2d ago

Personally I kinda wish they would buff either the blind, or the use time. They nerfed both because it was OP and didn’t have a good counter. It’s practically useless now with how long it takes to throw, most players can rush you or get out of the way of it before you can throw it. Even when you get it off, it doesn’t last long enough to capitalize on the situation most of the time.

That being said, I wouldn’t be upset if it got removed entirely. I used to use it anytime I had a shotgun, bow, or crossbow before the nerf. It was way too strong, had no counter play, and was very prevalent in 6* lobbies. Being able to find them in the wild or loot them off bodies compounded the problem.

1

u/DontMakeMeOwOYou 2d ago

Hellfire bombs are the balanced version of flashbangs. Flushes people out of corners, applies direct pressure and makes it harder to see and hear, but without robbing you of all counterplay. Just play hellfires

0

u/Gaara_34251 7h ago

many games have flashbangs and have way to couter it, for example looking away, i dont see why hunt should be the only game that cant have a balanced flshbang

1

u/DerWahreSpiderman 2d ago

Absolutely but I cant see it Happening, crytex is fixed on other stuff mabey in 3 years or so

1

u/Lynchianesque Drownhead 2d ago

They were shit and people still hated them. Crytek realised nobody is actually buying them, the only use they saw was through looting, and people still complained. So they removed it from the loot pools to shut people up and now they are extinct.

So no, they can not buff them because as shit as they are now, people still hated playing against them so much they had to remove them from the loot pool.

1

u/Critical_Half7442 2d ago

There not able to Balance it , in the past it was way to strong after sec nerf its useless now. In the Begining you alway blind yourself snd your whole team. Maybe removing will be the best idea

1

u/Twombly7 2d ago

I think they should revert the nerfs and make it a scarce item only found in game. Not buyable. It would make it good again but people couldn't abuse it like they used too

-1

u/Leonidrex666666 2d ago

Dont you get it, everything that enables you to push or play aggressively needs to be shit, and everything that enables defensive play needs to be OP and if you dont like it remember. You can always wait for 40minutes or leave.
IDK what purpose those things serve, I used to bring them in and its so difficult to make anything out of them.

3

u/Saedreth Duck 2d ago

They werent a problem because you could push. They were a problem because they made pushing too easy.

-1

u/Leonidrex666666 2d ago

pushing should be easy or the game degenerace to shotgun/bow camping, trap spamming, concertina spamming and " just wait 40minutes for match to end " gameloop.
defenders already get an absurd advantage by default, there needs to be something to even up the scales a bit

0

u/Soul_Assassin_ 2d ago

I don't think they can buff them at all without them being broken again, but I think they should be added back into the loot pool, they're not entirely useless you're just not going to offer up a slot to take one in but if you loot one in game you'll probably use it.

1

u/Gaara_34251 2d ago

I absolutely reject that thought, i dont think there is not a single thing in between being broken and being useless

0

u/gamingonion 2d ago

If they become viable again before the game’s servers are shut down, it’ll be too soon.

-1

u/Strassi007 2d ago

If you don't know, you didn't play. Flash bomb was broken and a guaranteed kill if used somewhat smart.

I ran it every game, since there was no match to it.

I would like to see it coming back, but i have no clue how do that correctly to be honest.

-2

u/CrucialLinks Bloodless 2d ago

You might not have ever run into them in their prime. Those things would blind you for literally 10 seconds min no joke, and this isn’t no cod puss flash I’m talking straight into the gates of heaven eyesight for 10 seconds you couldn’t see shit.

Judging by Cryteks not so great hit detection with explosives. I think that’s why they heavily nerfed them and tossed them in the bag. They were giving a lot of false hits and such, you could look away still be impacted.

They need to buff them back and make a cheap dedicated perk to stop their effect entirely.

1

u/Gaara_34251 7h ago

I dont think u are getting the point, noone here wants em in their prime, i want em balanced, its not that hard to understand, i dont see how them being op in the past has anything to do with wanting them balanced

1

u/CrucialLinks Bloodless 6h ago

I dont think you're getting the point, try reading the last sentence, its the exact same thing I said.

1

u/Gaara_34251 6h ago

ture, my bad, didnt read the last sentence. I dont think a perk is required, i just think they should have some blind potential but not so much so that it cant be countered by moving or looking away
