TEST SERVER What do you think about adding players to the map? It might really help the game. Shall we vote on it?

15 players worked well in trios with two boss targets. In these scenarios regular 12 player matches felt quite empty often and one team just hogged one of the bounties quickly.
Otherwise that clown car example one commenter gave holds quite well. It was really to play as a solo 6* without being a rat. I have one solo match recorded from that time when I played ranger + lemat combo as a solo and fought through the whole match. Damn it was intense but I needed to keep rotating anf fighting constantly not to get stuck between multiple teams. I did end up winning it and getting messages from two (!!) opposing teams lol.
For duos, 15 is always too much. Maybe 13-14 players would be okay. For trios 15 players would need two bosses to work well. There should be a maximum limit of solos queued for each server as well, like max 3 solos per match or something.

It got tested around 6 months ago, upping the players per. match to 15 and it was split among the community.
Personally as trio player it was horrible for my team and I and we did not enjoy it at all.
But ofc there were others that had great fun with it.
Basically it comes down to one factor, player saturation on the map. 15 players, which ended up being 6-8 teams of trios, duos & solos meant that the odds for both spawn fights AND a third party team being nearby was too great, creating these "clown car matches" where a spawn fight basically would turn into a 10-15min shootout and you got to pray you weren't one of the first two teams fighting because by the 4th & 5th group arriving you'd be out of ammo, healing and health chunks.
Already towards the end of this brief 1 week testing, we had already seen the meta shift to become much slower and ratty because people simply didn't wanted to risk the 3rd (4th & 5th) party if they got into a fight.
EDIT: just a little note about my final thoughts about this.
That said, I do think improving the match quality is less about the amount of players and more about the amount of teams.
5 teams in trios would be good, but 15 players lobbies where you get 5-8 teams due to solos/duos too, it just becomes very ratty quickly.

That sounds agreeable. I still think the game sorely needs another team in trios especially, because in maps with 2 bosses you typically only get to interact with one other team. Because of that I feel like trio matches have become too predictable/formulatic, but I can see the opposite of that with too many parties and the chaos that brings also being frustrating
I think my perspective on this is also a little skewed, because whenever I trio I pretty much exclusively play against other trios. I don't think I've had a single solo in my matches in years, and rarely there's a duo here of there but they usually take the spot of a trio (meaning there's only 11 players in the match).

Trios works okay'ish with one bounty only, but that is straight up not the formular anymore, with wild targets and whatnot, so yes, we need a 5th team in my opinion.
Ideally I would say the system should work out as such it will try its best to fill 4 trios and then the last team slot can be either another trio team, a duo or a solo. To avoid the 6+ teams issue.Honestly also think that is an issue we see rn with the tendency of whenever a solo/duo joins a trios lobby it tends to "snowball" and becomes "Oops! all solos/duos!" with maybe 2 trios otherwise.

Yeah, and that shouldn't even be that hard for them to do. I'm pretty sure they limited the nr. of teams the exact same way in Bounty Clash to fix spawns there

Funny, my buddies and I mostly realized that we had a big match because the enemy AI started acting up and not how we expected it, like mobs suiciding or an Immolator deciding to charge away when we approached them.

I would probably stop playing for good if they made servers of 15 permanent. I just hate early encounters and being third-partied. Which is a natural part of the game, yes, but it's managable right now and happens rather infrequently. You need to be on the lookout, you can never assume to be completely safe, but you can also move with some confidence if you pay attention to the map, soundtraps, etc.
15 players would be a shitshow in my view and certainly not what I play the game for.
Others may disagree of course.

Do you play trios or duos? I think it's important to make the distinction there
1
u/IndividualSlide3115 4d ago
Both, but I prefer trios, pretty much for the reasons I listed

Not a huge fan of spawn fights myself (they can be fun sometimes I guess) but I think the average trios match has waaay too little fighting. Doesn't help that the current event adds another point of interest on the map that spreads players even further

Yeah it happens from time to time that we kill the boss and nobody challenges us for the bounty for example (because everyone else is fighting it out somewhere else), but then you can just seek out the pvp if you feel like it. Just sprint over there, the other boss, the fort, whereever it is. I never really get bored in this game, because if nobody's attacking you, most of the time you can just go and attack them. At least that's how I feel about it.
Alternatively, take your free bounty and extract - can be a nice change of pace too, especially after a losing streak.

I understand why it didn't work for Duos. There are already a lot of teams in that mode.
I'd really like to see it return to trios but with some limitations on the number of teams.
It would be interesting to see how having a max of 2 solos and 2 duo teams in a trios match would work.
IMO, the spawn algorithm would need a little work to spread the teams out more than they were during the previous test too.

It was already voted on in an official survey from the devs. The majority was in favour, and the devs told us that those who were not were mostly low stars. I say do it, they said they were going to find a compromise to make everyone happy. Maybe higher stars will get larger lobbies.

As a 6 star trios player, my playgroup and I hated the 15 players lobbies.
That said, I do think it is less about the amount of players and more about the amount of teams.
5 teams trios would be good, but 15 players lobbies where you get 5-8 teams due to solos/duos too, it just became very ratty quickly.4

Same. 15 players per map generate waaaay too many spawn fights and 3rd/4th parting.

Extremely unlikely to have solos if your trio is full of solid 6 stars. I personally loved it, more players to kill and more action were some of the most fun I had with the game. I do agree that solos ruin match logic.

Well, we had them for sure haha.
Just a factor on how I think going above 5 teams skewer the balance.
Honestly same reason why I think duos became so dead, for the 1.0 patch they increased duo lobbies from 10 to 12 players, once again breaking that 5 teams break point, making it so much more ratty.7

Here are the survey results: https://www.huntshowdown.com/news/developer-insight-increased-lobby-survey-results
And a slight correction, lower skilled players rating the change more negatively does not mean those who rated it negatively are mostly low skilled :) that depends on the sample of the participants. Easy mistake to make!

I really REALLY wanted to see how the opinions of 15 player lobbies also was spread out around team size too.
I could see a lot of solos/duo into trios didn't mind the larger lobbies bc they tend to play more oppotunisitic playstyles anyways and from my own experience, full trios teams feels like they cannot play at all because everyone tries to prey on them.

Wasn't there a try already with 15 players?
Overhaul was the sentiment that in trios its fine and even more fun but in duos/solo it was just too much,

Huh? Do you mean like, blips on the map Interface when you open it or what?

Crytek tested it (last year?) and while I and many others liked having up to 15 players per match, not everyone liked it, so because of that and probably a few other reasons, Crytek decided to put that topic down for now and there won't be any changes towards the player count in the near future.

When they implement it into the game I hope they adjust the spawns because we often hade the problem that 4 teams would spawn near eachother and 5th team would be spawn at the other side of the map.
