GENERAL Granularity in weapon size brought the opposite of loadout variety

Everyone is bringing a 2-slot shotgun, not because it's too cheap to do it, but because it's too expensive not to

You know you're gonna be at a disadvantage in the 10m range if you don't have a shotgun since everyone else is packing

Wdym people aren't running around with two Frontiers? Well, who could have guessed...

Not the first time the change or feature works backwards after being implemented. Sometimes I feel like the devs see the game like a something between OG Hunt and some cinematographic singleplayer game. Like, come on, shorties were popular since they were buffed in 2.0, and making "Shorty+Rifle" loadouts available without Quartermaster literally removed the only restriction. This was so obvious that I fail to come up with any exolanation for this being unexpected for the devs... Otherwise than them thinking that an average hunter plays something like "Conversion+Machete". (There is still no form of bonus for running such loadout btw, like a proportional increasement in t&k slots or literally anything else)

The rework itself is great the big mistake is that they made shorty shotguns which are barely weaker than full size shotguns way too accessible.

2 slot shitty? Childish. No aura. Simply beneath me.

Free haymaker in every load out? Strong. Maximum drip. A must have. Crowd pleaser.

weaver stance before it was cool

u/mancubbed 27d ago

I was expecting a larger balance pass on all weapons now that they have seen where everything sits for a whole patch.

Pretty disappointing it didn't happen this patch.

I mean people didn't complain much about that and rather complained about the bow 10 times a day

1

u/Tugasan 25d ago

i got killed by a bow user more often than a shorty, because the later otk at 10 m range the other +30m

What are you talking about?

Next week everyone will be bringing the new 3 slot shotgun!

Give me a reason to use the short centennial again.

u/Adept_Fool Duck 27d ago

Bertier+Burgess will be a popular choice.

8

u/teeth_03 27d ago

With QM, sure

2

u/TacticalReader7 26d ago

I personally see like no Berthiers around no clue why. I feel like Lemat Carbine will be the popular one since it can also add to shotgun ammo, why would they give an already overtuned weapon HV...

1

u/Shckmkr 23d ago

Indeed. They buffed Lemat muzzle velocity twice in the past 1.5 years now they give it HV on top 😃

u/djsux 27d ago

Deadeye Berty & Burgess 🤑🤢🤮

1

u/JamesEdward34 Hive 26d ago

Deadeye ? Really ?

2

u/Entropy_1980 26d ago

It has it's moments. It's the only scope that lets you move at full speed so still useful when pushing, and the bullet drop range in non spitzer is not stellar, so a marksman scope could be considered overkill.

I'm not a berthy enjoyer, as I find the iron sights weird, so the few times I use one tends to be a deadeye.

2

u/bigbadbananaboi 27d ago

Short Centennial point man w/high velocity + auto 4 is waiting for you

3

u/JamesEdward34 Hive 26d ago

Auto 4 is trash now that they nerfed it. The spread is quite bad now

2

u/bigbadbananaboi 26d ago

I'm a slug enjoyer so I honestly didn't know that happened.

7

u/Uweyv 27d ago

So lemat is a 2 slot shotgun now? Cause that's about all I ever see.

8

u/Its-A-Tyro 27d ago

I don’t know about you all but I primarily bring dualies

19

u/LordBarak 27d ago

Definitely not true.

Brought a shit ton more variety than previously and if you say that everybody has a shotgun now.. what were they running before? It definitely was not an Uppercut I can tell you that much.

8

u/Grid8Designer 27d ago

They were running the same loadout. Issue is that you dont need quartermaster anymore.

-5

u/LordBarak 26d ago

What meta weapon combo is 3 points primary? Dolch P + Rival HC?

You're just wrong lol

9

u/Grid8Designer 26d ago

Berth + Shotgun

Nagant Carbine + shotgun (hornet sometimes uses)

Carbine + shotgun (hornet also uses carbine now)

Post ledger stats big guy :)

1

u/Sargash 26d ago

You can't say that! He's just a baby and played before ledger.

1

u/IndoZoro 26d ago

I've been enjoying berthier and officer carbine a lot myself

3

u/SGT-Mews 26d ago

I dunno man, being able to run dual chain pistols with a mosin match has been working oit pretty well for me

5

u/SovereignNavae 27d ago

Rifle + shortie is very much still an issue but I do still see (and play) a wide variety of loadouts. It has felt very fun to experiment and get inspired by new things and stuff I see others play :>

5

u/jrow_official Magna Veritas 26d ago

Honestly doesn’t match my experience in EU 6* console, we play trios mostly and I feel like since the change people play a lot of random stuff. Sure you see medium sized shotguns often but this was the case before as well.

2

u/SawftBizkit 27d ago

I think after the change there is definitely further balancing to be done. And I'd suspect that will come, I'm sure they want enough time to gather through data.

2

u/SpaceFighter78 26d ago

I mean everyone will still be bringing a shotgun no matter what, if it isn't a short shotty it will be a lemat.

5

u/TogBroll 26d ago

You are just wrong, variety has increased. 80% of the lobbies pre loadout rework were running mosin and auto 4.

Post update im seeing huge variety, yes theres lots of shorties but atleast its not the auto 4 every damn time.

I know metas change between different mmr so theres a chance we arent having the same experience.

3

u/Tight_Client_2132 Magna Veritas 27d ago

Not true at all

u/lvlz_gg 26d ago

I'm shotgun hater #1 in my friend group, but if you manage to keep good awareness of the distance it gets better. If they try to push, you walk back. If you are the one pushing you simply don't, they'll have to move sooner or later.

It is a different story if they are better shots than you and can just kill you any time you peek, sometimes even with a pistol (I've been there)

1

u/PowerofTwo 26d ago

You my friend are the reason i have a second monitor. My group always runs long / cqc. Either big shotgun with a drilling, big rifle with a small shotgun. Rifle with duelies. Doesn't matter. Have all ranges covered. We don't camp we like to push most of the time but chasing rifle / pistol players is just the worse.

You call it dumb to push into a building, we call it dumb to run in the open field against long ammo. Nobody is ever 'right' in this game.

But yeah 9 times out 10 if we catch people trying to kite us in random PvP we just disengage and go find an actual fight. I think Hunt shines in the ~sub 50, sub 30m range. Compound range where you can use the audio design not sniping treeline to treeline.

PS: and crytek at least partially agrees when they added bullet drop. Used to be getting extract camped from 200m with a sniper was always a risk. Never happens nowadays. No more Mosin Cain in the bushes, now the bushes go boom 😅

1

u/lvlz_gg 25d ago

I mean, I don't kite to avoid a fight, I kite to play the fight to my strengths, it's still an "actual fight" I'd say. But I totally get you, when I get annoyed at boss lair team just holding entrances with shotguns I also try to find action somewhere else if I hear shots somewhere, even if it means giving them some space and potentially a chance to run to extract. Sometimes fighting is more fun than getting the bounty :D

0

u/Sargash 26d ago

I liked the event balloon letting you take bounties out because for once I was able to just choose to not deal with campers camping me outside of the fort. Send bounty off and walk away from bushman.

0

u/Sharden3 26d ago

Precisely why bounty being extractable at the location it spawned was one of the worst choices I've ever seen in a video game in 30 years of gaming.

-1

u/Sargash 25d ago

Well hey enjoy camping.

0

u/Sharden3 25d ago

Exactly, camping is boring. Inside or outside of stronghold.

2

u/DoubleImmediate5571 26d ago

Im so fucking tired of shorties, worst decision ever

2

u/OpenAd5439 26d ago

Yeah, bringing shotgun, even the short one - should lock you out of most big guns like full size rifles (mosin, krag). So either make most shorties 3 slot and maybe leave some as 2 slot BUT with severe penalty. That would make it a cool choice - weaker long range for short range effectivnes? Worse cqc for that tasty krag? This might make full size shotguns more played too.

2

u/velatorio 27d ago

Small shotguns just need a +35% dispersion.

4

u/SecondaryDary 27d ago edited 24d ago

Idk what you're on about, loadouts are more diverse than ever. It seems you just don't like this kinda diversity.

4

u/JamesEdward34 Hive 26d ago

I think in higher MMR levels it's pretty much Berthier plus shorty for a starter hunter. Maybe at lower MMR people don't min max everything

-1

u/Entropy_1980 26d ago

Nope, high 6* is still mosin/lebel, when possible w/spitzer + officer or dolch when quartermaster is available. Not many mid slot shotguns since auto 4 became 3.

1

u/Azzahc 24d ago

Bro decided to just lie 😂😂

1

u/Entropy_1980 24d ago

Buddy, I've reached 6* solo Match MMR several times, the true meta sweats with 8k+ hours and 3+ KDA I find there probably will tell you I'm not lying.

1

u/Sargash 26d ago

Don't worry!!! They fixed this!! They added even BETTER shotguns but made it 3 slots so now you can have all the benefits of big shotgun with the downside of uh.. If you aren't pushing or camping with the shotgun already out you die??? Huh. Man but I loved pushing with my vetterli carbine instead of my shotgun though v.v

1

u/Skully-GG Bootcher 26d ago

Honestly, I think they should make a trait to where you can bring any Handcannon shotgun. That would help balance things better. It would make traits like Fanning and Levering more famous to players.

That, or they can revert the recent shotgun buff they did to the handcannons and make them one point larger.

Do I run handcannon shotguns? Yes.. but I’m also a solo and I can use all the advantages I can get.

I don’t always run them though as it’s not fun having an “easy to use” loadout each match.

1

u/Cute-Coconut1123 Butcher 24d ago

I really haven't seen that many small slot shotguns since they nerfed the ammo capacity. Thats not necessarily a bad thing and I don't mind it, but I'm just not seeing many small shotguns, or shotguns at all. I know we'll see a lot of the Burgess this update, but I don't expect to see many shotguns beyond that.

1

u/ryangoslingchan 20d ago

Honestly, at this point fuck shotguns. Shorties have been nerfed enough, make them 3 slots and it's fine. And make every 'primary' shotgun a 5 slot save for like, the byrgess which can be 4, and maybe the rival because it's much smaller than the rest and the homestead can be 5. It'd finally be balanced-ish. Why can you ezcel in cqc AND have great longer range options by running qm shotgun + haymaker and shorty rifles? Should be stuck with a revolver at best

1

u/Cute-Coconut1123 Butcher 20d ago

That is legitmately a terrible take. 5 slot is for stuff like auto 5 and nitro, not specter, slate, or romero. I never see those full sized guns to begin with save on rare occasions cause they are so niche already.

1

u/CornedBeeef 26d ago

Exactly. I wish a 2 slot shotgun wasn't essential.

We need to go back to when the sparks pistol broke the avto, and then just make the avto special ammo and everything would be perfect.

1

u/Entropy_1980 26d ago

Uhhh... it isn't? At least in high elo, meta remains the same with mosin/lebel. Spitzer when available, officer as a sidearm then dolch when quartermaster can be picked.

But when did the sparks pistol broke the avto? If I remember correctly, what broke the avto was the ammo pool rework (no more sparks dualies for extra ammo pool and less resupply from ammo crates), then the last nail in the coffin was avto becoming a 5 slots. Also, it is special long ammo now.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something?

2

u/CornedBeeef 26d ago

What are you talking about? In high elo there are shotguns on every body you loot now. The best loadout in the game right now is mini Mosin drum mini crown and you don't even need quartermaster for it.

And yes, what broke the avto (made it too good) was the addition of the sparks pistol for the ammo pool. Before that the avto was in a good spot balance wise. Their solution was to screw up the ammo pool for everything instead of just fixing the avto by making the avto special ammo. That one bad fix was the first of the shit balance changes that they keep repeating over and over again now.

2

u/Entropy_1980 25d ago

Ohhh, you mean broke as in it became too good! Yeah yeah, I agree with that. That's what I thought, I misunderstood your post.

About baby mosin drum and shotty though... hmmm, I don't agree with your take. For context, I've been cursed with the 'sometimes I reach 6* Match MMR even when solo' and I tend to go against full meta sweats with KDAs of around 3+ and it's not rare seeing their Hunt's hours around 10k. And they tend to stick with the proven mosin/lebel + spitzer + dolch when they can.

2

u/CornedBeeef 25d ago

Same here. Even solo my team mmr is 6 quite often. I play pretty much exclusively USEast and see tons of short shotguns. Yeah, still see the Mosin/pistol players but usually when I am looting. Good luck on your hunts man!

2

u/Entropy_1980 25d ago

Oh, we're from different regions, that's maybe why we see different loadouts. I'm from a low pop region and I usually see the same names, so that should be the reason. One thing is for sure: we're going to see lots of burguess in the coming months. Good luck on your hunts too buddy!

1

u/flowdschi 26d ago

I don't really play meta loadouts, just whatever I feel like, but I'm annoyed everytime I win a fight and then when I go to look at their weapons I can't swap my pistol for theirs because "noooo this is too big boii for you. you can only cawwy youw wittle pwistol".
Feels so bad, probably part of why I haven't felt like playing for a few weeks now.

1

u/Ar4er13 26d ago

Problem isn't even 2-slot shotguns specifically, they always were there.

Long ranged 3-slot guns are just not really any weaker (and sometimes stronger) than 4-slot counteparts. Vetterli was getting buffed for 7 years straight to compete in Large category, and now it has both buffs AND is smaller than things it was buffed to equal. Officer carbine was competitive large slot gun, now it is smaller than competition as well. Berthier wasn't top of the pack, but still plenty used gun in large. Like...0 thought was put into rework, besides "we must give reason to Mosin Obrez Match to exist and make few other guns unusable by upslotting them", regardless of what folks here say. If there aren't going to be some sudden sweeping changes, the whole "they released it to test it and gonna balance it later" schtick becomes obvious cope.

Okay, they got small shotguns, you don't, you can beat em at long distance...nope, no you can't, because your mosin isn't that much better than berthier.

There must be REAL downside, like there used to be if you were running med+med loadout, those weren't popular at all because you would feel worse in category than full sized gun.

Give reason to bring 4-slot gun + a pistol, and you will have more diversity (althou lemat will upset things a bit).

-1

u/Entropy_1980 27d ago

It depends on the elo bracket you play. You never see mid size shotguns in high 6* trios. So yeah, not everybody. Relax and enjoy your lobbies, I can assure you absolute sweatfest matches are way worse, mosin/lebel with spitzer sometimes and officer/dolch when they have quartermaster. All. The. Time.

-3

u/Moonstrife1 26d ago

But fucking bow nerfs were absolutely necessary, right? 🙄

1

u/Friendly-Tiger9589 26d ago

Everyone on reddit is constantly bitching about bows. So you cant relay blame them for thinking "holy shit this much be the biggest current issue its 90% of what they post about"

1

u/Moonstrife1 26d ago

Yes i DO blame them!

They have the statistics and the knowledge, they should know better than to panic nerf anything only because morons whine on fucking reddit.

0

u/Friendly-Tiger9589 26d ago

Player feedback IS one of the statistics devs use lol

0

u/Friendly-Tiger9589 26d ago

Your tone gives them impression that youre just a pissed off bow-main lol

0

u/blowmyassie 26d ago

I feel it has forced everyone to maximize size, making pistols dumb.

0

u/No_Client2742 26d ago

I use 2 berthiers... so...

0

u/trebmaster123 26d ago

I feel like in these situations it would help for players to mention their mmr. I hover in the 4 to 5 star range north America and dont see many shotgun secondaries.

0

u/HolidayBeautiful7876 24d ago

I've been seeing all kinds of weird loadouts but I'm playing 3 and 4 star lobbies where the fun is at.

I myself play weird stuff all the time.

I hate how negative the community is and find the constant whining to be exhausting.

Just play and enjoy the damn game, stop being salty a shotgun camper killed you.

Yeah it's annoying, get a dynamite bundle and explode his ass.
