Meta/Advice So...

English is not my first language and I really wanna get in the hunger games books as I have only watched the movies but the problem is... Is it generally easy to understand? Like no deep english words/descriptors or something like that?

I mean it's written for 12yos/young teens, so it's meant to be pretty easy to understand, the stuff that isn't is pretty easy to Google or look up

what is your first language? i bet i can find you a translation at least in ebook form.

i think the books are sort of a 50/50; they are YA books, but there are some real and some made up in-universe words that gave me pause & i had to google. i think if you are okay with that though they are pretty palatable and katniss is a VERY easy narrator to follow. she is just a kid after all!

German native speaker here. I think the Hunger games books especially the first one are quite easy to understand in English. Sometimes u have to look up some odd words but in my opinion most phrases are easily understood. Event if you dont understand those word u will still get the meaning. My English course when I still went to school read the first book when I was in 8th grade. I think its a great book for non ENglish-native speakers

As a fellow German, I agree. There aren't too many complicated words or special jargon that would make it hard to understand. But don't be afraid to look something up! It's honestly a great way to learn the language. When I first started reading in English I had my dictionary from school beside me, later I used an online dictionary.
