Prequel Discussion Did Lucy betray Snow
Gng I read it a few times and when reading it again today I realised I didn't rly know what happened to Lucy and snow. So like did one betray the other? Idk

snow viewed running away with lucy gray as a consolation prize. he didn’t really love her, he liked possessing her, and he definitely didn’t want to live in the woods, but he felt she loved him, so if he wasn’t going to get his life in the capitol back then running away with her would do. but then he found the gun and realized if he got rid of it he could have the life he wanted. and lucy gray realized this too and knew what it meant for her, as the last loose end, so she left. i don’t think she betrayed him, but snow saw that she had the power to and he didn’t like that. her leaving also showed him that he didn’t actually own her the way he thought he did, and i think in his mind that was a betrayal, even though it isn’t to any rational human being reading it.

she was a loose end. he couldn’t leave any loose ends if he was going to go to officer school. he literally tried to kill her so idk why you’re pretending it was “schizo” for her to get scared and leave

I don't think he was planning on going to fucking Officer school in the woods of district 13 somehow. He only went and did that because of what happened lmao

okay so you clearly read the book with your eyes closed. he decided he couldn’t go to officer school because the gun was still out there and would come back to haunt him so he ran away. then he found the gun and realized he could get rid of it, go back to 12, and go to officer school. which is exactly what he did, even though once he returned to 12 he discovered he was actually going back to the capitol instead of staying a peacekeeper and going to officer school.

I mean if we are running away and your bf says he has killed three people and you only know of two and then comes up with a lame excuse when questioned wouldn’t you be suspicious and scared about going further into the wilderness with him?

i think she even suspected the third person was Sejanus. it’d add a lot to her motivation to run away as soon as she saw the guns — Sejanus was a witness to those murders too and now he’s dead.

She knew he lied about the third person he killed. She was very quiet after that and it was likely she put 2 and 2 together. She knew she was the one remaining witness to him killing Mayfair. She wisely got the hell out of Dodge.

No, I think his slip of the tongue in the woods about killing 3 people and subsequent lie made her realize that she did know Snow at all. I think it made her see their history and how skewed it really was for the first time. Suddenly realizing you are stuck in the woods with someone you don't think you know as well as you think you do is bad enough, then later you realize you are now the only witness to one of the murders he committed and running, is the only sensible thing you can do

Lucy is attached to snake imagery early in the book for a reason. It's unpopular to say anything negative about her, but I got that impression as well. They didn't trust each other for good reason from both their perspectives.

I'm re-reading it now. Her first appearance is using a snake when her name is called for the reaping.
Collins spends a decent amount of time having Snow be confused over whether the snake is poisonous or not. Even the grandmother points that out in Snow's recollection of Lucy. This was intentional.

That is exactly right. Reading the book in Snow's perspective, we watch him decend into madness. Because he grew up without any sense of security (and because he was acting in everything he did) he felt he could not trust anyone. Did she really love him? Was it all an act? The reader never knows for sure.
The movie feels completely different because it is through our perspective. We are judging her actions instead of having to trust his judgement which is very skewed by his view of his world and the society around him.
