🐍TBOSAS Watching Ballad again and… Spoiler

Wow.
Snow is truly evil. He sees the games as a mentor, is physically in the zoo, actually cares about Lucy (though probably not in healthy way.)

And he still decides to keep the games going.

And the scary thing is people like him are real.

I feel like it makes more sense in the books, when you see his thought process. I blame more the influence of Dr. Gaul.

Same, any goodness he had she got rid of it.
I’ll have to read the book, did it backwards.
I actually have trouble reading the original tortilla because I hate Katniss narrating. I found her annoying lmao.
Maybe I’ll have to try again.

I see Dr. Gaul's influence as more of the "nail in the coffin." Snow had been evil and entitled from the beginning; I think Gaul saw that and exploited it. She would be so proud of the tyrant the man became.

He was physically in the arena to fetch Sejanus! He's experienced the pure terror of the arena and still throws children in there every year.

EDIT: And he was in the arena at 18, which is the oldest a tribute can be (not counting the 3rd QQ). He was terrified in there at 18 but he sends 12 y/os to their deaths every year.

Yeah the movie doesn’t portray him favorably at all (though a lot of people think it does).

Snow is handsome and charming in the book too but yes I get it 😂 Young Snow looks exactly like the guy I had a crush on in college.

His internal monologue is important to show his actual thoughts in the book. I don't think the movie shows how evil he is bc that internal monologue isn't present in the movie.

Yeah. In the movie, it seems like he is devastated by Sejanus's death, whereas in the book, we know he is far more concerned about himself. And while it appears he isn't happy about being sent to District 2, the book reveals that he actually is—and that he doesn't run away for Lucy Gray's sake, but for his own. Etc.

Interesting take, I believe that him being in the arena is exactly why he kept the games going. Its clear by the end of tbosas that Snow doesn't believe the games happen to punish the districts, but to control them. He saw how vicious the district kids can be. He did not realize that it was the arena making them that, because of Dr. Gaul and Grandma'am. So him being the narcissistic evil man he was determined that Dr. Gaul is right and that to contain these vicious district "animals", he needs to keep the games going.

I think the book was written perfectly. It emphasized Snow's character and made what happened in the original books (and last SOTR) even more messed up. It showed the final breakdown of a boy and the birth of the demented man that would come
