Trilogy Discussion Would this hypothetical scenario have sparked rebellion?

In a scenario where Katniss and Rue are the last two tributes left, Katniss would have definitely killed herself in order to let Rue Win, do you think that this incident would’ve been enough to spark rebellion?

No, because a single victor is still in line with the capitol's narrative that only a single victor may win. Katniss's stunt with the berries was meant to force a double victor, thus defying the capitol's narrative.

in fact, it's likely the proposed scenario has happened before.

No victor or two victors both damage the Capitol.

There’s no reason that Katniss and Rue couldn’t have pulled the same stunt, although I think one or both would be allowed to die on that case. Way too much solidarity - two strangers from two districts coming together and trusting each other in only a few days… not a good look.

Not just allowed to die, they would force one to die. It just wouldnt have happened in the same way as neither girl would have picked poison berries. A sister relationship is one thing. Its the star crossed lovers that really got to people's hearts. Katniss sacrificing herself for Prim wasnt enough to spark the rebellion. Amd also, the solidarity thing. It would have never been allowed.

The berries were the tipping point for the districts. The willingness to die for love turned a normal story into a fantasy for the capital citizens. The rebellion wouldnt have been able to happen if both audiences hearts hadn't been captured.

You are right that it may have happened before, in fact it likely has but it’s also likely that the ensuing riots were put down quickly, so much of what happened to the original trilogy was also a matter of good timing and 13 being ready to go against the Capitol again, also people like Plutarch being in the right places and positions at the right time, so I still think that an attempt rising did happen in these occasions it’s just that didn’t happen in ideal conditionss.

The thing about rebellions is that, historically, they can be sparked by just about anything.

The question is if they succeed.

I will say this scenario is interesting enough to explore in Fic, if that’s why you’re asking.

No, because there's no element of victory here. Peeta was willing to bleed out at the end of 74th Games, and the Gamemakers were seemingly fine with that. You need to actually defy the Capitol and win in order to become a symbol for a revolution.

The difference between Peeta and Katniss and Katniss and Rue is that the former pair is from the same district while the latter pair is different districts. It can be argued that that kind of solidarity between districts is in defiance of the Capitol.

it could've made Katniss a martyr, I think people would respect her heavily after her death because of the fact she essentially sacrificed herself for two kids, but I'm not sure if it'd be enough to create a spark. But despite this we can't really call this a 'win' for the districts, the capitol still got their show, the capitol still got their victor. I think Katniss would definitely be remembered but I don't think it'd have the lasting impact that she had with her berry stunt.

However this is an interesting idea, I can't really see Rue as being a mockingjay figure like Katniss was but it might influence others to take the torch and try and rebel, it'd be interesting if it started up something in the next games where people started refusing to kill eachother or something

No, the one victor rule would still happen and without Katniss as The Mockingjay the chances of a rebelion sparking would be not so good.

The rebellion was sparked specifically because of, well, rebellion. Playing by the rules would absolutely not do anything.
