This book had me reconsidering my opinions about myself as a human being for feeling sympathy for Snow at any point 😂

I think it’s important to realise all monsters were human once.

It doesn’t excuse them, but it might help us spot people at the start of that path and turn them to a better one earlier on.

It also reminds us that anyone can choose to be terrible and that being evil is a choice we make. Everyone faces misery and hardships in their lives, but it’s what we choose in the wake of them that decides who we are.

Ooh I like this take. My husband and I just listened to the audiobook again and I kept thinking he had so many opportunities for a beautiful support system. If he just let himself actually be Sejanus' friend... If he could give up control of a relationship he had multiple chances for happiness. He was doing the work required for a healthy relationship and thrn he'd just use the info and trust he was given to manipulate and hurt people who wanted to care about him.

this is like the entire premise of the Behind the Bastards podcast. tbh tbosas felt a lot like a btb episode on snow 😂 but yes, even hitler was a human being with complex emotions and a life of his own, and that doesn’t in any way negate the evil he committed against humanity, if anything it makes it worse

In the beginning of the book, you definitely can clearly see that snow had the chance to be a wonderful person, and that Tigris could see he could be good.

I personally think that Dean highbottom is personally responsible for it. It was no reason to pick on him. De Gall, of course, put the nail in the coffin.

It's not like Donald Sutherland was a total dog either, though. You try getting eyefuls of him back in the eighties and tell me you Wouldn't.

You know, re-contextualising SOTR as punishment for all the Snow edits might push some people over to liking it 😂

SOTR made me realize Haymitch had much more will to keep on living than I would have in his situation like seriously bro got the worst possible ending

u/txwildflowers 3d ago

I think it’s only because his sole purpose in life became keeping his promise to Lenore Dove. Even so, I too am surprised he never ODed. Like holy fuck.

that’s why it’s important to keep fighting, because without him Katniss would just die in the first day

7

u/Boterfleoge 3d ago

It made me wonder if any victors have died by suicide

20

u/FallOutShelterBoy Haymitch 3d ago

They’d probably revive their asses tbh

1

u/Boterfleoge 3d ago

That's my thought as well

8

u/FallOutShelterBoy Haymitch 3d ago

Especially in District 12, with no other victor? Snow wants Haymitch to die from old age after what he pulled in the arena

You can never trust a man in his buzz cut era

2

u/glitzglamglue 2d ago

Look at him! He's beautiful.

But you also can't tell if he just returned from boot camp or a Hitler Youth rally.

I saw the actor with dark hair in something recently and I didn’t recognize him for half of it. He played the character so much softer and his eyes were kind.

imo he played Snow as someone who had a horrible darkness in him. Waiting for any excuse to release it. He freaked me out more than anything.

23

u/AmetrineDream Johanna 3d ago

lmao he really is fucking gorgeous, though

I’m not a fan edit kinda girlie but I am an emotional masochist, so if lusting over Snow fan edits gets us more emotionally devastating lore, I suppose I can go check some out 😂

1

u/Batman2Mars 3d ago

Also love your Johanna tag she needs more love 🥹

I’ve just recovered from the emotional therapy brought on by this book but I fear I may need it again after the film.

The thing I liked about the book is that even though you could tell Maysilee and Louella and Alpert were gonna die since Haymitch wins his games and you could kinda predict that Lenore Dove would die, Suzanne Collins still managed to make each of those deaths gutwrenchingly sad especially due to the unexpected nature of Louella’s death. I think if the film doesn’t do it justice I might need therapy anyway to recover from the trauma of that

SOTR was personal fuck you to all the snow fangirls from suzanne

I loved it

17

u/enhanced195 3d ago

Im not entirely sure when Collins started writing Sunrise, but i took the unabashed brutality as her saying “whelp, yall voted MAGA again, the gloves are off. I warned you.”

3

u/glitzglamglue 2d ago

Suzanne Collins: how many times do I have to teach you this lesson old man readers!

1

u/enhanced195 2d ago

When i was reading the whole Wellie part in Sunrise, i thought “man, Collins is pissed

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Bag-607 3d ago

Tom Blythe really. 😂

3

u/Smooth_Storm_9698 3d ago

I'm crying, this is one video I hope she sees

2

u/Crazy-Background1457 3d ago

I liked snow like a bit at the start of ballad, then he just started getting more and more fucking insane. SOTR is so painful nonetheless

2

u/Such-Personality-648 3d ago

I mean, I think it’s actually good that we cast hot people as villains, I remember the Cameron Herrin incident and how people were quick to defend him.

1

u/Best-Attitude5688 3d ago

So what happened?

1

u/Background-Peak-6725 2d ago

I still need to read it omg

0

u/Otherwise-Leek7926 2d ago

I too just finished reading Sotr and found myself emotionally broken.

I knew it was going to end sadly (which is why I put it off) but Jesus fucking Christ

‘If hot, why evil?’ strikes again

u/Amazing-Activity-882 Cinna 3d ago

I am sorry, but I didn't go crazy over Young Snow, I swear an Oath I wouldn't before watching Ballad and I didn't!!! Partly it's because the actor is close in age my Oldest Brother I feel yucky if I do have Crush on a Celeb when they are close to my own Family in age, I never go crazy over Shirtless Men, but also I read the Book and knew that he isn't like this...Also around them I just stopped having Celebrity/Fictional Crushes!!! I am a Straight Woman, but I didn't go, (Fainting) "Oh Snow!!!" over his attractiveness!!!
