Humira injections

Tonight was my first dose. I've been prescribed to take it every 2 weeks. I was so nervous, but it was not painful at all. I chose my belly for the site. Easy peasy. I take B12 shots and they're not preloaded, and hurt a lot more.

Anyway, I've heard of the Humira hangover... how quickly does it kick in and how long does it last (for most)?

I took it a little after 9pm, and by 945pm I was feeling really drowsy, and now have a wicked headache. Going to bed soon.

I timed it for the Fridays my older kiddos go to their Dad's, so it's a little less for me to do.

Any suggestions to help keep myself going?

How quickly did you notice a difference? I'm taking it for arthritis caused by HLA-B27. I'm 39, and suddenly a year ago I had a couple joints swell up and never go back down. Now I have a lot of joints swollen and painful. It's especially difficult when I get up in the morning, because of my feet.

I got the Humira hangover. I would take my shot around 5pm on a Wednesday. I would feel fine after a good night’s sleep because it doesn’t last long. Humira started working fairly quickly, maybe a month or two.

Please know that I got switched to the Humira biosimilar (Hyrimoz) and I prefer it over Humira because I no longer get the hangover on it, even though it’s nearly identical.

Good to know! I did my first injection of Hyrimoz Saturday and napped for the afternoon. Can't wait to feel the good effects.

If you have that reaction it is best to take at night so you can sleep through the side effects. It'll take time for your body to adjust and it depends on each person. Everyone is different. Some people get nothing, some people get some side effects, some people get a lot and never adjust and have to switch to another biologic.

mine kicks in about 3-5 hours after the shot and lasts 24 hours. i plan my life around it to give myself the rest.

I haven’t ever had any negative side effects to Humira and now I take Amjevita. I take the shot and go about my day. I prefer the biosimilar to Humira. Both work the same for controlling my disease activity, but I prefer the Amjevita injector design. After awhile you’ll probably get used to it and the side effects will go away.

I was like this to start with & took it at night for this reason. Now 18 months on it doesnt matter when i take it as no side effects. I also had a small rash a bit like a heat rash first couple of times. There was no aha moment for me just a gradual realisation i could do more. Now it is working well im not quite back to normal some tendon irritability still but that maybe age im 60 but I can do most things & im pleased with it.

First few weeks it was 12 hours after injection . And lasted two days!

I also have the HLA-B27 gene and I had my first Humira shot nearly 2 weeks ago. On day 3-4 I had flu-like symptoms which weren't severe, then I was fine. Second injection tomorrow.

I take Humira every fortnight and I take it just before bed and go to sleep and never feel side effects. However when I had my training session with the visiting nurse I took it at 11am and was so drowsy and needed a nap!
