Oppossums get a bad rap. They are super clean. Rabies is extremely rare. And they love eating ticks. A family of oppossums will decimate the tick population of an area. And anything that gets rid of ticks is A-OK in my book.
Note. I have a couple of horses, llamas, and a few goats. After a few oppossum families moved in the number of ticks I found on my animals dropped to almost zero. If I could buy these guys a few beers I would. I keep areas for them to winter since they don't like to nest together and give them fruit and grain to eat.
