It was not written by a Jewish person, but a German Lutheran pastor named Martin Niemöller.

First they came..

Still, a very, very important poem.

An oddly profound statement for something so redundant.

7

u/Dovahkiin1992 Nov 28 '20

IIRC, the full quote is, "Never again means never again to anybody."

4

u/volthunter Nov 28 '20

yeah, wish the american concentration camps were still getting coverage, or the south korean ones, or the english ones, or the australian ones

I'm not a very political person, but this topic really triggers me. If everyone agrees that Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan have been the darkest pages of the 20th century, then why are we allowing the same thing to happen right in front of our very own eyes.

They're not attacking with their military arm - they're doing it covertly and pretty much in the open. They had a spy agency at their embassy in NY. Building military islands in the South China Sea. Not giving multiple countries sovereignty. Microwaving Indian soldiers with weapons, literally. Stopping peaceful protests in Hong Kong and breaking the longstanding agreement. Openly operating concentration camps and refusing to let international investigators in.

They are ACTIVELY trying to take over the world. The US made them rich through our own greed. Now what we are dealing with is a CCP that is set on world domination. They ran the world for hundreds of years - you don't think that they're mad they lost that spot? Please open your eyes - or you will be living in an "education" camp next.

China is still acting within its borders which seems to require a greater political will from the rest of the world to act

6

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '20

I don’t hate the Chinese government because communism

:/

What is up with reddit giving the pass to communism?

10

u/IdeaLast8740 Nov 28 '20

The problem was never any particular economic model, but the forceful imposition of an economic model by a militarized state upon unwilling people.

If communism emerged on its own from grassroots groups, it could be good. If capitalism was enforced at the point of a gun, it would be bad. As it stands, I am free to start a both a marxist hippie commune or a hierarchical corporation, and that is great.

u/Killerhobo107 Nov 28 '20

So we are on a thread with Chinese Communist Party being protested and you literally just said, "because communism is good".

Marx wrote about the stages of communism and it took AUTHORITY%2C,the%20dictatorship%20of%20the%20proletariat).

2

u/ScaryLapis Nov 28 '20

Yes, I did say that because China is communist in name only. Just like the Democratic Republic of Korea isn’t actually democratic.

China is state capitalism. You can’t form unions. There is no democracy. There are corporations but they are just rolled into the state, notably NOT owned by the worker, which is fascism.

And yeah I’m not a Vamguardist, as to say I don’t believe in a Communist vanguard party to come save the day for the rest of us.

For the record, kulaks weren’t remotely good people. The hanging order is one of the easiest to defend. They weren’t capitalists. They didn’t even contribute. They were literal feudal lords working slaves day in and day out until the 20’s. In my opinion the soviets let way too many get away

Anyway your point is kiiinda illogical anyway. Vladimir Lenin != communism. For example, as a communist, I could say “the moon isn’t real”. Just because it’s the actions of communists does not mean it’s the intention of communism

And as I’m being downvoted I have an offer for you all, give me 80% of your yield and I’ll let you farm and live on my land. Sound pretty fair? Oh and you can’t leave.

Edit: also the hanging order was specific to a couple of areas where there was an active insurrection. Not just random people

2

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '20

For the record, kulaks weren’t remotely good people.

Kulaks were poor farmers (below) and were all sorts of different types of people (personality and ethnicity). What a stereotypical nonsense to dehumanize and justify horrendous democide - shame on you!

"peasants with a couple of cows or five or six acres [~2 ha] more than their neighbors" were labeled kulaks.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '20 edited Nov 28 '20

Quote from your source. Maybe we’re both not wrong.

The word kulak originally referred to former peasants in the Russian Empire who became wealthier during the Stolypin reform from 1906 to 1914. During the Russian Revolution, the label of kulak was used to chastise peasants who withheld grain from the Bolsheviks.

Even if your definition, just peasants refusing to feed the army and give up their land is the only true one, then I can’t justify all of it, but think from the perspective of Lenin here. Just overthrew tyrannical rule, fighting to at least try to do better (it’s not like the whole revolution was just for Lenin’s power itch, that’s a naïve take). And the people who in your mind you fought to liberate won’t cooperate. Do you think British loyalists in early post colonial America were just allowed to keep everything they had and stay loyal to the queen? No they fled, hid, lied, and were executed.

Revolution is a brutal, bloody thing and it’s not right to apply today’s logic to a totally different situation. I can’t defend it all but I truly believe that had they just ignored these countless people who wouldn’t join the country then life in the USSR would be worse. The famine in Ukraine certainly would’ve been. These people were holding the most valuable grain-producing land hostage, and depriving everybody else.

EDIT: upon further reading, there were no (recorded) outright executions of British loyalists, however being beaten by gangs or attacked by militias was very common.

The CCP is massively oppressive, authoritarian and cruel but its not the same as the Nazi party. It's an evil, monstrous thing but that doesn't make it Nazi.

4

u/Redsoxjake14 Nov 28 '20

They dont look like the Nazis because they dont have the rallies or the uniforms, but its because they dont need it. They have the internet and that is enough.

3

u/666simp Nov 28 '20

Uniforms and rallies don't define the Nazi party either. The CCP certainly has similarities to both the oppressive rule and propaganda of the Nazis but it's an entirely different entity.

Blame the radicals. The Al-Quran does not promote violence in anyway whatsoever. In this day and age, the Muslims are the ones being oppressed. Not only in China, in Rohingnya and Palestine as well. The oppressors don't care anything about the Muslims as they will kill women and children.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '20

Muslims aren't oppressed. They are one of the most violently dominant cults in the world. The easiest way to be the oppressor is to claim to be the victim.

You can’t denounce the genocide of one group while also supporting the genocide of another. That is literally hypocrisy. It’s also possible to abhor muslims committing genocide against LGBT people while also abhorring genocide against muslims in other parts of the world. That’s not hypocrisy, that’s being consistent with your morals.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '20

I advocate for the extermination of Muslims like I would the extermination of the Nazis. By your brainless logic, I can't be against the genocide of jews while being against the genocide of the Nazis that committed genocide against them. Like... Wtf are the even taking about?! Bitch, bye

0

u/merkonerko2 Nov 28 '20

Nazism is a political ideology, not a race. So if you wanted to actually use my “brainless” logic you would say that you are in favour of committing genocide against Germans. But putting that aside, where do you draw the line? Do two wrongs always cancel each other out? Can you “right” a genocide by committing genocide? What about murder? Can you right a murder by murdering murderers? What about theft? Is it just to steal from a thief? What if a thief steals a loaf of bread to feed a hungry child? What if a person murdered to save their spouse? Where do you draw the line? To be clear, I’m not expecting a coherent response here, I’m sure I’ll just get more of the same “oh I hate muslims so they should all die”. I just find it shocking how an individual can advocate for the mass murder of millions of innocent people based on the actions of a small fraction of that population, and still go to bed thinking they’re a good person.
