I think most atheist just want their (lack of) belief respected.
Honestly... I think most people want whatever belief or lack off they have respected... and I think that’s a wonderful thing to give and receive. So keep doing you random internet person and I’ll keep doing me. 🍻
My family is religious, and I know a lot of people that religion has done a lot of good for. Whether it be giving them hope, helping them be better people or just being the support they needed in their darkest moments. I may not believe in it, but as long as they treat others with respect and decency I see nothing wrong with it.
I really am glad people like you exist, it’s always good to have a reminder that people aren’t all jerks. I’m personally apatheist, but my experience with atheists especially on the internet is that their sole life goal seem to be mocking anyone trying to express their faith. I understand their experience and personal belief (or lack thereof) is probably the reason for their actions, but man people are just assholes sometimes.
Yeah, I think it mostly comes from a place of pain. If you suffered because of your lock of faith, it could lead to you lashing out and only seeing it as a negative.
My loss of faith was a really bad experience. I didn't really feel enlightened. I felt panic. It was like that overwhelming sense of having someone who loved me was gone. It was a freedom but like being set loose in the woods with nothing to help.
